Blue America is set to run the Blanche Lincoln-Public Option ads on Wednesday
By John Amato Tuesday Jul 07, 2009 5:45amStart your engines and....we're off. Awww, some corporate Democrats must be feeling the heat and running to daddy for help. I feel so bad about it.
Howie makes a great point: Did Obama Give Us The Nod To Go After Blanche Lincoln?
The Blue America PAC blogs asked our readers to take a look at the 3 TV spots we made for the Campaign for Heath Care Choice. So far we've raised around $23,000 and this is the ad that the contributors picked for us to run in all of Arkansas' media markets:
--
Is it OK with Obama that we go after one of the worst of the conservative Democrats-- and one of only two (the other being quasi-Democrat Arlen Specter) facing re-election next year-- who is opposing his plan to reform the American health care system fundamentally? Well... we think so. According to today's Washington Post Obama urged groups like Blue America to lay off bad Democrats-- but if you notice Blanche Lincoln was specifically left off the list. Obama complained about groups that are going directly to the voters to expose corrupt Democrats Ben Nelson, Mary Landrieu, Arlen Specter, Ron Wyden (I don't understand why he stuck himself in this detestable camp) and Dianne Feinstein. But the silence over Blanche Lincoln was deafening. Obama must really hate her-- as he should, since she has opposed everything he's tried to accomplish, even after Joe Biden helped her raise a fortune from loyal Democrats for her re-election campaign.
The good thing is that we don't need permission to run our ads from anybody. You've helped make that possible. We're interested in trying to reform health care and Blanche Lincoln is up for re-election and she's a member of the Finance Committee with Max Baucus and Chuck Grassley that is looking to cut out the public option. Here's a little info on what you've helped us create with our Campaign For Health Care Choice action.
It is a two week flight, starting Wednesday July 8. almost 700 (680) spots running in Little Rock, Jonesboro and Ft. Smith DMAs. These spots are not on the weather channel, either, they are running on well-watched cable channels, like USA, TNT, CNN, MSNBC, FOX News, ESPN, Food, History, Lifetime - big (for cable) stations.
This is the first wave - second wave will be bigger and cover the Memphis DMA as well.
Thanks once again for helping us out and America thanks you too.

...that even if she eventually changes her opposition to a public plan, that the bill that eventually eminates from the deep, dark caverns of congress will be so watered down that it won't change a fucking thing; AND she will get reelected whenever she has to run again anyway.
and other Senators against a real public option could walk in my shoes. I just posted this on Susies' thread about my husband who killed himself 2 years ago this month. Our problems with health insurance were the last straw

I was just hopin maybe we had someone on OUR side in DC for a damn change.

...just saw it at TPMMuckraker, too.
Damn Obama, Rahm Emanuel and the horses they rode in on.
Single term.
following through on his campaign promises.
That's what I meant, but yes.
... If the goal is to reach Point A from Point B and you have to take slightly different path along the way.
If we still continue to push for a public option, we'll get there. If we give up and remain silent, then there's no where else we can go.
I read the article and it seems that the White House still wants the public option, but it means moving to non-profits to compete with the lager companies to start with, then I can somewhat support that.
It's better than the system we have now.
...we will be competing against breweries too!?
DAMN!
Robots.
They won't need health care.
Surely, someone could have seen this coming!
national collapse of some sense of ethical standards in our culture. Right/wrong, adulthood/childhood, etc. It all got thrown out the window with a guy who thought every American should strive to become a millionaire. What if you don't WANT to be a millionaire? Does that make you lazy or UNAmerican? For Reagans crew, it meant you were a loser.
It's still the MINDSET in this country.
This dishonesty is quite old. That is why it is so acceptable. It's how it is done in DC. We are supposed to accept that, because those people are so much smarter and experienced than we are. Don't you know.
She has really sold her soul to corporate America.
However, I would like to think that she had received some bad advice.
And to think that she used to be one of the good guys.
Pryor isn't much better and is a squirmy tool.
...advice? In other words, she is completely out of touch with her constituency and incapable of making her own choices?
So, why exactly did you vote for her? Twice?
I guess I cared more about the (D) next to her name ... and I think she may have ran unopposed one time. ... Either that or the guy that ran against was much, much worse.
But to answer your first question, she seems completely out of touch with her Democrat constituency and just listening to the Republican ones.
...not have any better options, but if another Dem or independent should decide to run next time, hopefully it will be a progressive. Do they even have any progressives in Arkansas?
You have folded to what Barack Obama gives permission to do... NOT do what is right and prudent for this country.
Amato, you have failed real progressives and should be ashamed of yourself for your desire to rub elbows with the very ones who are causing this country so much pain.
What was once a noble endeavor is now nothing more than sycophantic ass kissing.
Wipe your lips.
How have you helped this country in the past nine years?
Why are you making things up? Amato did not ask permission for anything, nor has he failed at anything. Do you believe he is having cocktails at the Whitehouse? Did you hit your head when you went off the deep end? You are not helping the cause.
... looking at the contents of the article. Either the OP did not read it, or his/her reading and comprehension skills are rather limited.
Seems like we're getting hyped up to shoot ourselves in the foot (or feet). What we finally get will NOT be the pie-in-the-sky plan some of us would like to see. And a reminder that short of single payer, the difference between having a public option per se and a watered-down one in the form non-profits is one of degrees only. So, to start making noises about "one term" is stupid, unless we're thinking that getting some kind of revenge for our unhappiness by putting a Republican in the White House is going to help us or the country.
I'm currently watching the Senate hearing on cap and trade/energy, and believe me, if you think that the Senate Republicans want any changes in the status quo, or would be more enlightened if back in power, then I must strongly disagree.
Call me naive, but I also think that a percentage of these "one term" threats come from people who would be quite happy to see Obama as a one-term President, no matter what.
As for a public plan, there are also a fair number of pitfalls that would have to be avoided, and I'm not convinced that the Congress will do so.....

Finally, it's always reassuring to see the media actually present some real facts about other health care plans in other countries, contrary to the crap that's spread by the Frank Luntz GOP crowd:

thank-you for bringing attention to the country about my senator, ms. lincoln. she has been a problem for awhile but this state is so against our president that she feels she must be also. doesn't make it right, but this is still a very racist state.
her first name, Blanche, literally means "white" in French.
I am glad that we are getting some spotlight on BLANK Lincoln. I do have to disagree with you on the racist state statement though. This state is no more racist than any other state, sure there may be parts with problems but that is not what is going on. This stae is a poor state that has been exploited by right to work laws and companies like walmart, tyson, and corrupt politicians like huckabee etc. Then you have weak Dems like Pryor and Lincoln who dont stand up for Democratic values and sell us out to get the religous bible vote. While all the while those same politicians are taking money from competing interest in the state and surrounding areas. (casinos, union busting businesses, insurance companies etc)
Shut up Obama! Since you are not going to do what we elected you to do (hiring a bunch of corporate fascist DLC Clinton flunkies to guide your administration), then we will do it ourselves.
We are quickly realizing that we are on our own. The only thing we have going for us is numbers. You, and the corporatists that you have sold us out too - have pushed the people too far.
Frankly, I would like to see some of these ads about you Mr. President! Showing how Wall Street Geithner and Derivatives Summers are up to their republican-lite 1990's Clinton bullshit again.
Our neighbor is losing the home they built themselves (they did the work) 14 years ago. Several other people we know have gone bankrupt because the 30% interest rates the banks charged them drove their monthly expenses into the red.
These would be the same bastards on Wall Street who would have gone under if not for the taxpayers. And now your little Timmy wants to make sure we don't limit CEO pay. WTF!
I don't give a damn one way or the other if the Democratic party crumbles just like the GOP did. Maybe out of both of their ashes we can create a corporate fascist party where critters like Lincoln and other corporate D's and R's can go, and the democratic party can be "reborn" as the peoples party once again.
that is being spent to lobby the DC group for the benefit of Wall Streeters. Go here: http://www.organicconsumers.org/articles/arti... Try not to let your head explode.
that's supposed to scare Sen Blanche into supporting public option?
Damn. Our side can't even make a decent ad. We are so fucked.
No shit.
Lincoln is not out of touch, she's bought and paid for, change we can believe in...bull-shit.CEO,citizens,eyes,open
As someone who actually has to live in this state, I can tell you that Blank Lincoln is a horrible Senator and I can not wait until there is an actual progressive Dem to take her place. Pryor is just as bad also. They are DINO's who are controlled by the Walmarts which is surprising considering that walmart is on board with the Prz plan. Go figure. Plus any emails to her are never responded to. Horrible office horrible Senator.
instead of fighting for a crappy public option, you should fight for single payer. Put ads in Max Bacuas's state and ask why single payer was never even in the discussion. These ads are a joke.
UncleBrice.com salutes you folks for helping us expose Senator Blanche Lincoln for what she is. The problem is finding someone to replace her. With a multi-million dollar war chest funding primarily by the insurance, medical and pharmaceutical industries, she has yet to draw any serious opposition.
Please visit our series of articles about public option, single payer and Blanche Lincoln to arm yourselves with information. And a very special thanks to you folks at Crooks and Liars!!!
