Here's a nice FOX News Headline...

FOX-Lesbian-headline_011b4.jpg

What a nice headline from FOX.

I wonder if they got a memo from Newt Gingrich?

GINGRICH: Look, I think there is a gay and secular fascism in this country that wants to impose its will on the rest of us, is prepared to use violence, to use harassment. I think it is prepared to use the government if it can get control of it. I think that it is a very dangerous threat to anybody who believes in traditional religion. And I think if you believe in historic Christianity, you have to confront the fact.

He's 18 now, why bother to search for him, unless they feel he's been kidnapped or murdered?

I had to read that headline like 3 times just to figure out the language logic. I'm still not sure what it means, but I feel compelled to save that kid from his evil lesbian murderers, unless they're saying he's the murderer, in which case we need to find that demon spawn of an unholy etc. etc... Thanks FOX. Now I've got a headache and I'm too confused to help find the kid.

I'm sure they're concerned that he has been killed. Loesch murdered her own mother for the insurance money, it's not hard to imagine her son would be at risk as well. The world's not gonna miss those two.

Where are his facts that there is a gay and secular fascism in this country That wants to harrass and is prepared to use violence.
Would that have been tim mcveigh, or the rudolph guy?
Who are you talking about?

"Dead Fugitive" is all you need. You certainly wouldn't be saying, "Dead Heterosexual Fugitive," or even, necessarily, "Dead Male Fugitive" or "Dead Female Fugitive."

And if they're dead, they're no longer fugitives, because they aren't actively eluding law enforcement.

Of course, FOX has never let journalism get in the way of sensationalistic and biased reporting.

I am more than a little confused. Is the the age of the young man 18 now or was he 18 when he went missing in 2000? As far as Newt is concerned he seems to think that secular fascism is wrong while christian fascism is OK. Did I get that right? He also seems to think that there is a militant "secular" organization that wants to overthrow our government and "...impose their will on the rest of us". my dictionary defines secular as follows "secular |ˈsekyələr|
adjective
1 denoting attitudes, activities, or other things that have no religious or spiritual basis : secular buildings | secular moral theory. Contrasted with sacred
2 Christian Church (of clergy) not subject to or bound by religious rule; not belonging to or living in a monastic or other order. Contrasted with regular .
3 Astronomy of or denoting slow changes in the motion of the sun or planets.
4 Economics (of a fluctuation or trend) occurring or persisting over an indefinitely long period : there is evidence that the slump is not cyclical but secular.
5 occurring once every century or similarly long period (used esp. in reference to celebratory games in ancient Rome).
ORIGIN Middle English : senses 1 and 2 from Old French seculer, from Latin saecularis, from saeculum ‘generation, age,’ used in Christian Latin to mean ‘the world’ (as opposed to the Church); senses 3, 4, and 5 (early 19th cent.) from Latin saecularis ‘relating to an age or period.’

If there had been more room on the screen, Fox would have gone with its original headline copy: Arizona Straight Police Search On for Possibly Gay Teen Son of Dead Lesbian Fugitive.

SHACKLEFORD: Look, I think there is a theistic fascism in this country that wants to impose its will on the rest of us, is prepared to use violence, to use harassment. I think it is prepared to use the government if it can get control of it. I think that it is a very dangerous threat to anybody who believes in traditional rational thought. And I think if you believe in historic secular government, you have to confront the fact.

It seems more like The New York Post's style of salacious headlines than outright bigotry, in my mind. I mean, Jesus, missing children, lesbians, AND fugitives?!?

Isn't this fun!?

Why bring up sexual orientation? The fact she is lesbian matters in what way? I never hear a headline," Straight man kills Boss."

They're real tricky.

I was taught never to use race, religion or sexual orientation in a headline. I don't know if that was a standard for all college journalism students, but if we had written that headline on test it would have cost us.

and was instantly hired by Fox News, of course. Wow - what a surprise! George W. Bush hires incompetent, corrupt conservatives to govern, and Roger Ailes hires incompetent, corrupt journalists to report the news. Perfection, I tell you.

Now I understand the conservative hankering for corruption (because the average conservative is a completely self-interested, self-victimized a-hole), but what's up with the conservative glorification of ignorance and incompetence? These people seem to crave stupidity. I'll figure out the meaning of life before I figure out the conservative embracement of stupidity.

journalism?

I have yet to see any evidence of it...

Labels are great! That's why the Republican party and its constituents love them so much. They tell you not only who to be afraid of, but why you should be afraid without really knowing anything at all about the individuals (or for that matter anything at all about anything.) It's important to be afraid.

Let's hear it for labels!

Liberal
Socialist
Marxist
Anti-American
Communist
Muslim
Fascist
Islamo-fascist
Appeaser
Gay
Lesbian
Sex Offender

and my two favorites...

Cakesniffer

Please feel free to add to this list so we all know who to fear.

Poppycock

Does that mean you have a poppy flavored...

Here in Chicago our major newspaper, the Tribune, has had a long standing history of playing bigot journalism. If an African American achieved an award for saving a child from a burning building, it would be lost in the paper next to the obituaries. But if an African American murdered someone, that would be front page news.

As a city transit driver here in Tucson, I study newspaper photographs and sometimes can recall if the face has ever appeared at my farebox. The two women don't ring too many bells except to look like so many other riders, at least for now. But I'll do a glance for a while to see if the kid gets on. The adults would have been easy - they just get old, but the kid can grow into an unrecognizable youngster. I'm guessing that like so many other persons of interest, he would have fled the area anyway.
John Amato's attempt at linking his own suspicions with Gingrich scale paranoia detracts from his own articles primary point about Fox's sensationalism-for-journalism routine. Fox represents present and future broadcast TV schmaltz ratings builders to me. Fox can at times confuse the public with excellent programming too - darn it.

What does the sexual orientation of his mother and her partner have to do with anything? As a headline, does it provide you with essential information that you would use to identify and/or recognize the young man?

John calls this out and mentions Mullah Gingrich's statement because we are apparently supposed to be fearful of these horrible gay and secular fascist types, when it's been eight years of a white, straight, Christian administration that has been savaging the Constitution, waging illegal wars, and practicing torture.

And dismissing the FOX sensationalism-for-journalism means I don't ever want to hear the words 'mainstream media' coming from your mouth, because you've decided it's all just a ratings game.

Until there's more new info about Natalie Holloway or any other missing blonde girl in Aruba...

Are you still considered a fugitive, if you're dead?

oh, for pity's sake.

EOM!

)O(

What, no Search on for teenaged son of liberal fascist lesbian nose-picking flatulent fugitive mother with halitosis?

Yes, it's a crap headline. Yes, it doesn't matter if his mother was a lesbian or not. Yes, FOX is notorious for such cringe-worthy 'reporting'. Yes, Gingrich is a fear-mongering homophobe with all the moral scruples of a scum-sucking amphibian.

So damned what. This poor kid has had one hell of a troubled childhood, no one is quite sure where he even is anymore, his mother is dead under completely horrific circumstances no son should ever have to face, and he's as likely to learn of his mother's death the same way we did rather than being informed in a more compassionate and supportive manner.

That's the real focus here. The boy.

When did WE forget that?

Just classy news, fairly unbalanced too!

In Australia, most people never say "wife" or "husband" preferring to use "my partner."

That way, you completely avoid offending anybody.

Couples who are dating are partners. Couples who are married are partners. Couples who are gay and can't get married because of the law are partners.

Ironically, it elevates a relationship from being one of simply labels to one of meaning.
