MSNBC-Lieberman_d7a1c_4114e.jpg

I've been trying to ignore this jerk lately, (it seems McCain has kept him off of the TV screen. Probably bad internal polling numbers) but it's time I did a little update because one of the benefits that we'll all receive if Obama wins the election will be to see Joe Lieberman get his reward for betraying Obama and becoming McCain's side kick just to save a dying political career. Maybe he'll even get a job as a FOX News analyst. He does join the FOX News, right wing chorus when he says:

NAPOLITANO: Hey Sen. Lieberman, you know Barack Obama, is he a Marxist as Bill Kristol says might be the case in today’s New York Times? Is he an elitist like your colleague Hillary Clinton says he is?

LIEBERMAN: Well, you know, I must say that’s a good question. I know him now for a little more than three years since he came into the Senate and he’s obviously very smart and he’s a good guy. I will tell ya that during this campaign, I’ve learned some things about him, about the kind of environment from which he came ideologically. And I wouldn’t…I’d hesitate to say he’s a Marxist, but he’s got some positions that are far to the left of me and I think mainstream America.

He knows full well Obama is not a Marxist.

And Digby has more.

Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman, one of John McCain’s closest political allies, said Friday he does not believe that Barack Obama is unprepared to be president.

“I’m saying he is less prepared than McCain,” Lieberman said.

But what about Sarah Palin?

Is she ready?

“If, God forbid, an accident occurs or something of that kind?” Lieberman said. “Um, she’ll be ready. You know, she’s had executive experience. She’s smart and she will have had on-the-job training.”…

“[McCain] is ready to be our president at this very difficult time,” Lieberman said. “And Sen. Obama is not as ready. It’s as direct as that.”

Seriously, I think there needs to be a congressional investigation into whether or not JOE LIEBERMAN IS A FASCIST.

Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not acually saying that JOE LIEBERMAN IS A FASCIST.

I would never say JOE LIEBERMAN IS A FASCIST without some proof. But of course Joe Lieberman is much farther to the right than I am; indeed further to the right than MOST Americans.

Now, that doesn't necessarily mean JOE LIEBERMAN IS A FASCIST.

I'm just saying we need an investigation to determine whether of not JOE LIEBERMAN IS A FASCIST.

You know, so we can say beyond a shadow of a doubt, whether or not JOE LEIBERMAN IS A FASCIST.

Oh... and while we're at it, maybe we can ask him when he STOPPED BEATING HIS WIFE!

the fact is, joe has never truly been a dem....it was the only way he could challenge an incumbent

a very good freind of mine, who used to be an advisor to pat moynihan told me right after joe won the first time, that this was the worst thing for the dems, as the senate was trading in a liberal republican for a conservative dem, which would cause the repugs to go more to the right...he was right

The Democrats will continue to allow Lieberman to be Chairman of the powerful Senate Homeland Security Committee and he will also be allowed to remain in the Democratic caucus. After the past eight years of watching the Democrats cave in to Bush's un-Constitutional reign by "going along to get along", they won't rock the boat by doing anything to AIPAC's darling boy.

As much as we, and particularly the people of Connecticut, would like to see him go down in flames, ain't gonna happen.

Yeah. I was having a lovefest with Kucinich and gave him money. Then Nader. Gave him money too. I had a one night stand with McKinney because of her support for a new investigation into 9/11. Didn't give her any money.

I decided to vote for Obama after I was read The Riot Act by every person I know in L.A. I heard him give a speech about supporting the Constitution one night and after two martini's (Koolaid??) I sent him money.

Then I voted absentee for Obama and had the envelope sitting by my purse ready to mail about a week ago. I listened to one more Youtube video by Nader about how rotten the Democrats are regarding their constant caving to their corporate and AIPAC masters and had the tea kettle going in order to steam the envelope open to change my vote.

But I figured, "Oh, screw it. My measly vote for Nader won't help."

The Democrats under Obama will continue the wars in the Middle East. They'll just move the action into Afghanistan and Pakistan and possibly into Iran. The recession will deepen. The FISA spying legislation will stand along with the Patriot Act and the Military Commissions Act.

And yes, my dear, Lieberman will be forgiven because they need his vote.

We all get Third Party fever about this time each election cycle. But, we get over it.

Signed,
Just Another Stepford Caving Democrat

There is no way they will continue to allow Joe to hold that chair. His baby is about to be gone forever...and that is why Lieberman is sucking wind now about Obama not being such a bad fellow after all.

I disagree that he is a prostitute and with John's supposition that Lieberman is trying to revive a stalling political career.

Holy Joe wants one thing: Continued war in the Middle East. And that is where he and McCain are best buds. That is the only thing Lieberman wants. War with all of those icky A-rab countries.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if Lieberman ever signed onto any of the PNAC papers, letters, etc?

No MsJoanne, his name does not show as one of the original signers of the PNAC Statement of Principles. I am even surprised!

MsJoanne's picture

Over the years, there have been many signers on varied PNAC documents and letters. The original signers were only some of those who bought into their American Empire by force bullshit. (Some of the names shocked me, frankly.)

I wish I had saved copies of all their documents before their website went bust. The only one I kept was the big one...the New Pearl Harbor (read 9/11) manifesto.

joeedugan's picture

If the Democrats get to the filibuster proof sixty seats with Lieberman, then he'll have them by the balls. Reid will mend the fences in order to keep the 60 votes together and Lieberman will probably get a sweet deal out of it. Hard Justice's picture

You have a pretty myopic view of things, to think that there is some core group of diligent workers who are towing the line for rest of the great unwashed, ungrateful, lethargic masses. Your assumption that recipients of redistributed income will spend it on drugs is classist as it is classless. Unrestricted free-market capitalism is unsustainable and hurts the regular working man. It will ALWAYS unfairly stack the cards in favor of the wealthy.

No one wants to take money out of the hands of the hard working engineer or doctor. Or the hard working fry cook or sanitation worker for that matter. We're talking about recalibrating the tax structure so the onus is on the people who can afford it most.

bamboozled's picture

First off, no one is talking about taking Bill Gates' millions and giving it to the people. It's about FAIR taxation. Slightly raising taxes on the richest 300,000 people, slightly lowering them on the remaining 299,700,000.

Secondly, anybody who is in a high bracket--which I am--knows, you get heaps of write-offs so you never pay your "bracket" rate. I never pay more than 17%, whereas someone who does the quick form pays their full rate. And you can assume the more write-offs you have, the less you'll pay.

Thirdly, the 25% that someone making $25,000 pays hurts a lot more than it does to someone making $300,000.

Fourth, by "spreading the wealth," Obama simply means the MORE people who are doing well, the better we'll all be doing. This is common sense. More people bringing home slightly more money is will be more likely to help the broader economy than a handful of billionaires, who are more likely to spend their money in New York or sink it in an off-shore tax haven.

et- You really don't have a clue do ya? Obama isn't talking about giving your money away, he is talking about a tax break for working stiffs. I don't make 200,000 plus a year, and I have watched my wages go down the last eight years. For the rich in this country to have to pay a little bit more so the working middle class of this country can get a tax break, and maybe get their wages to at least stay even in this economy is a good thing. I am one working stiff who is going to vote my pocket book this time.

I think all this socialism nonsense started with the bail-out of Wall Street. It was not the bail-out itself, but discussions on how are we gonna pay for it, and will we allow bailed-out corporations to continue with the multi-million dollar salaries to their failed CEO's who keep their golden parachutes? They also don't like the possibility of new regulatory acts to prevent such disasters happening again paid for by taxpayers money. They also don't like the idea of treating the taxpayers as investors in their company.
