As expected, Latino voters are turning away from the Republican party in droves.

As has happened at different points throughout United States history, New Americans — immigrants and the children of immigrants — are changing the face of the electorate. And apparently they aren’t too happy with the way their communities are being treated. This may in the end decide the outcome of the presidential election.

In a report released today, the Immigration Policy Center points out that New Americans are big voting blocs in key swing states, including: 14.8% of the electorate in Nevada and 14% in Florida. IPC also notes that Latinos and Asians together account for 31.5% of all registered voters in New Mexico, 16.2% in Nevada, 12.6% in Florida, and 11.1% in Colorado.

Most daunting for those politicians who have chosen to scapegoat immigrants — according to a Pew Hispanic Center poll this summer, 75% of Latino voters view the immigration issue as important or very important.

Once again I want to thank the Republican led House of Representatives and the ex-Rep. Sennsenbrenner for making this shift possible. If you're Latino, Please vote and go in groups of at least four because they will try and intimidate you.

They don't want to support the party that wants to build a gigantic pink fence on it's borders? How come I wonder?

It's time to call for charges to be filed against Peter Feldman, Communications Chair of the Pa. McCain campaign.

He was the spinmeister on the Ashley Todd "scam" and now has been identified as the initiator of the Jewish "hoax" in Pa.

This man is extremely dangerous to this democracy at this point. It's time for McCain to either distance his campaign from this indecency or to fire Peter Feldman.

McCain cannot have it both ways and this is why he's losing badly. He tries to portray the persona of a man with dignity and class and then, underhandedly, permits or personally orchestrates these vile, hate-filled and violence-inciting messages to voters.

McCain is no longer respected in this country as a man of honesty but, instead, has earned the label of "pathological liar".

Additionally, his other labels include "race baiter" and "fraud" - soon to be joined by "crook" in his violation of the FEC rules - to the tune of $7 million.

The shoe's going to drop right on this criminals head. Now it appears that his own home state of Arizona is leaning Obama. What a disgraced exit this buffoon will soon make from the american political scene.

Also of interest today: Anchorage Daily News has endorsed: Obama! Gotta love it! The only idiots left with be the reichwing hate mongers when this is over - the rest of this country will be united under an Obama presidency.

Here's the Peter Feldman info: This man is going down for what he's been doing.

Does anyone know what Arab voters will be doing?

I can't imagine they would be thrilled as to how they've been covered in the media by some elements either (like Hispanic voters obviously haven't).

As we all know:

A majority of Arabs in the US are Christians I believe (not that it matters either way).

A vast majority are not criminals nor terrorists

and to add, a vast majority of Muslims in the US (and the rest of the world) are not criminals nor terrorists either anyway.

If the terrrists support mcPlain, they are trying to sway the vote and mislead you.

If they support Obama, it's because he's secretly one of them.

Campaign farce?

My neices's husband is from Iran...I know, he's Persian, not an Arab. He's been in this country since The Shah was overthrown. He isn't Muslim but that doesn't matter. He's been a U.S. citizen for almost 20 years. He still gets stopped by cops (mostly when he's out of town on business). Last time he was held up by a cop who was sure if he was let go he'd go to New York and blow up bridges. After almost 20 hours and lots of faxed documents the cop finally let him go. Of course this is nothing compared to the crap he got when he came back from Iran to visit his dying Mother.

...and no doubt the idiot cop thought he was going to be a great American hero.

Blacks have been subject to this type of profiling for years (i.e. "Driving while Black") Same applies here..."Traveling while Brown"

Middle eastern = the new black.

Polls indicate Obama pulling ahead with almost all groups. At this rate, he may even win among Racists, leaving only the demographic "Stupid" for McCain.

and you have to be too stupid to vote in your own interest.

All blond, blue-eyed and racist. You could picture them smashing windows during Kristelnacht.

The chronically uninformed and the perpetually confused or as the Pollsters call them, "the undecided", should just flip a coin or just stay home.

the voter roll purge is very serious there.

Yes we can, brothers and sisters!

Let's keep it up -- only another 10 days! (Or is it 9 now?)

The population in AZ is 29.2% Hispanic and 4.8% Native American... This kind of helps explain why AZ is now polling closer in many polls.

On the subject of intimidation, it would be great to have a team for each picket line documenting by video any anomolies. It would be even better to have a page consecrated to that subject here! Imagine the coverage you'll get.

Obviously it has become critically important to find a way suppress the Latino vote. Maybe make them show up with their grandparent's green cards or something.

Screw yourself, idiot.

I can, but it's so much more fun screwing someone else.

In any case, I was voicing what I thought the right wing would be doing, not my personal opinion which is that the right wing sucks big sweaty donkey 'nads.

Peace.

to you too!

What about the asexual, hermaprodite, lesbian/gay, Tibetan sheep breeder's vote? LOL.

Yes, I'll be voting.

Who told you about the gay sheep? A name please.

Condi Rice-A-Roni

Years ago.

But, the Latino community is one of the most diverse collection of population characteristics that it is impossible to pigeon-hole them (although Beck, Dobbs and Tancredo have tried).

They don't understand that for many of us, when they try to tell us to go back from where we came, we do get confused because we were always here, as far as we can remember!

Many of us do see the larger world and do pull for a middle-class existence, nothing more. We got a taste of the Constitutional freedoms that at one time were guaranteed to the commom folk. We will fight to get them back because it is fresh in our minds that we had them for a while and that now the Bush Supreme Court is trying to screw all the common folk.

And what about those damned Irish? Drunken slackers all! Every one of them should be sent back to where…

Oh, wait…

Wrong Century. My mistake…

(Does it never end?)

for the Irish!

And Irish names run plenty in our genealogical charts!

Scots-Irish here: Hamilton Clan.

Most everyone in America came from someplace else. The world is a much smaller place than it was 100 years ago. Ancestry used to be important to Americans. It is becoming irrelevant – as it should. There are still, however, those who wish to identify with a place their forbearers came from generations ago. That’s ok with me, but they shouldn’t be so quick to practice exclusionary biases. We’re all in the same boat.

How do you know where you are going? Or, some just don't care! That is the problem with "Americans" that live in the U.S (I use the word more inclusionary than you apparently as I see the Americas encompassing the Western Hemisphere).

But what about the likes of Dobbs, Beck, Buchannan, and the ultimate strivers O'Reilly and Tancredo, who shamelessly declare their ideal world view of white anglo-saxon male superiority which implies exclusionary population suppression tactics.

Agreed the world is much smaller. And the larger world laughs at a population willing to put its collective head in the sand.

Funny story:

I live in Florida – born here. We are a unique state, because no one IN FL is FROM Fl. The first question you ask anybody here when you meet them for the first time is “Where are you from?” That never seemed strange to me until I visited Europe for the first time.

I walked into a hotel bar after a long flight, and naturally asked the bartender conversionally, “Where are you from?” I got the strangest look from him as he said “Here?” Then I realized where I was. Of course he was from there – and his family had probably been there for 5000 years. It opened my eyes a bit. He didn’t care where anybody was from. In that part of Northern Europe people have been moving from country to country forever. It made no difference.

KEEP HOPE ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!

so then its not a question of laws, how many here would line up at our sea ports to welcome thousands of chinese comeing to america without being asked to take our jobs? wich people would you prefer to compete with for the few jobs we still produce? meat packing companys used to pay good wages to american workers , construction companys union payed good money even non union construction companys paid fair wages because of the compition from union companys ,landscape companys hireing american companys paid a liveing wage , but now most of these jobs are given to thoes who came here and will work for peanuts, wich laws should be broken for the sake of cheap labor for the rich?

including International Law.

Which if applied to many of the forceful and violent tactics used to protect the borders by a government intent in basically protecting its conquered lands would find many an international criminal in the ranks of the suppression forces.

First of all, I'm amazed that republicans at the national level learned nothing from the California experience in 1994. Gov. Pete Wilson and organizations like Save Our State ("S.O.S." - I kid you not) were in full demagogue mode and pushed through prop. 187, one of the most tyrannical anti-immigration bills ever - it allowed citizens (presumably whites) to stop "suspected" illegal immigrants (read: anyone brown, including my Dad who was born in the US and has a Ph.D. from Harvard) and demand to see proof of citizenship/legal entry. Of course it was overturned by the courts, but Latinos got their/our act together and registered to vote en masse. In 1996 and 1998 almost all Republicans from non-rural parts of CA were voted out of office. This killed the Republican brand in CA and is the often overlooked origin of it being reliably blue (remember - CA went Republican every election between 1952 and 1992 except 1964 when almost every state went LBJ).

And Republicans forget that most immigrant groups eventually just become considered "white" or "normal" (unless you live in Chicago, where Polish still counts as non-white) after a while. Great book on the subject by David Roediger:
http://www.amazon.com/Working-Toward-Whitenes...

I can not fathom for the life of me why the Republicans seized on this as an issue a few years ago. I used to think this was the dumbest thing they had EVER done. It is now #2. Sarah Palin as VP is #1.

I cannot say I have any first hand experience in this but from what I have heard from reliable sources anyone can go almost anywhere in the world and if you are sick or injured you will get first class medical treatment no charge and no questions ask. If you want a job that is another question. Employers will not give you a job unless you have all the documents to prove it will be legal to do so. If that were true in this country there would be no "immigration problem".

They are going to decide the campaign I thinks.

The Latino vote is what helped carry Obama through the primaries. He'll see the Latinos turn out in force. We don't scare easy.

This Mexican American family is voting Obama. People think that because we are a military family, we'll vote Red. No dice. We love our country and hope to see a return of pride instead of the fear mongering.

not sure why progressives continue to mixup this issue

legal immigration is good

illegals are bad, for they are used by the corporatists to bring down wages, destroy the middle class and destroy the unions

someone pointed to bachmann...she is a good example of a corporatist schill, but her opponent tinklenberg is not much better in this issue

he honestly said that dairy industry needs cheap labor to stay afloat...are there any mom and pop dairies still around? why do corporate farms need cheap labor?

seems that the depression to come will fix the whole issue...but illegal immigration has not been a benefit to this country

and neither are the visas that bring in high tech workers when we should be creating our own

"If you're Latino, Please vote and go in groups of at least four because they will try and intimidate you."

I disagree that anyone wants to intimidate Latinos, they don't know if a Latino will vote Republican or Democratic so it's almost 50/50 that person will vote for a thug over Obama. The thugs don't care what ethnicity a voter is if that means a vote for their politicians.
