The McCain campaign responds to the Murray Waas/Timmons/Saddam story… sorta.
By John Amato Thursday Oct 16, 2008 4:30pmThe McCain campaign ducks David Schuster's questions about how power lobbyist William Timmons, was involved in a lobbying effort on behalf of Saddam Hussein in the early 1990s “to ease international sanctions against his regime,” by saying there are no lobbyists in McCain's camp. I kid you not.
...we’ve had no associations with any lobbyists on our campaign

My Friends, William Timmons is no Bill Ayers.
My last name is Timmons, there are very few famous "Timmons's". The guy from 98 degrees, the MLB ump, and teh corupt cop in Shooter that gets killed.
don't forget Margo Timmons of the Cowboy Junkies.
My Friends, Obama has never hired Bill Ayers for any position.
So he's gone to stand up then?
was that he "knows that there are lobbyists in the McCain campaign."
hot moms agree - http://www.filthyrichmond.com/
"...we’ve had no associations with any lobbyists on our campaign"
In a campaign where they've said and done a lot of ridiculous and said a lot of truly stupid things - this ranks right up there.
The McCain campaign can't come up with anything better than that? Pathetic. Everyone knows McCain's campaign is full of lobbyists of all sorts. McCain isn't even trying to explain this away.
Thanks to the information readily available via the internet, americans are being informed about McCain's "lies" at warp speed. they're fooling absolutely no one.
We know all about Timmons and his representing of Saddam Hussein (McCain pals around with terrorist sympathizers???).
What would you call flying around all over the country during the months of the primaries with a single blonde, the younger version of your matronly wife Cindy?? I'd call that a bona fide affair.
I'm sure Cindy knew nothing about it since your own aides were warning you about the repercussions. Maybe Cindy can come out and make her public statement about how much she knew about Vicki's trysts with her hubbie??
They paid Vicki Iseman hush money to lie for them. There are far too many people who have seen McCain in romantic locks with Miss Iseman at this point and Vicki's own confidantes are spilling the beans.
I think by next Monday there will be a good juicy blow-by-blow surfacing of the 6 months of their affair.
I've been hearing rumblings all day about Vicki's galpal who is spilling her guts to the media about their little trysts in that dangerous airspace called The Mile High Club.
Hey! You just made the biggest mistake of your life, baby. I know you're gonna be missing me when you have that big, white, wrinkly body on you with his loose skin and old balls... gross! Ugh!
Did Vicki Iseman “Steal Honor” in THREE Presidential Elections?
By: emptywheel Thursday February 21, 2008 9:16 am 0
diggs
digg it
John McCain denies any honor was stolen--neither his nor Ms. Iseman's. Or rather, he denies "the story," though it's not clear whether he's denying that his relationship with Iseman was inappropriate or that he did favors for her. So I guess I'll leave it up to you to decide whether she stole McCain's honor in both the 2000 and 2008 presidential elections.
For the moment, though, I'm more interested in the 2004 election--the one McCain didn't run in. You see, I find it a mighty curious coincidence that two of the companies for which Iseman was lobbying John McCain in 1999 and 2000--the time of their potentially inappropriate relationship--also happen to be the two television companies that championed the Kerry smear, "Stolen Honor," in 2004.----------------------------------The ENTIRE emptywheel article is FABULOUS and a MUST read!I wonder if Iseman represents the cell phone companies that were reported yesterday to have given, freely given and installed, the cell tower for the McCains' Sedona ranch, last fall?
What War? What Vets? No one in the progressive blogosphere picking up on the Iraqi Vets being arrested outside of debate last night. One Vet was trampled

A group of Iraq war veterans opposed to that conflict got into an altercation with police outside Hofstra University on Wednesday about an hour before the final presidential debate as they tried to deliver a list of questions they wanted the candidates to answer.

From Politico (May, 2007)
Ben Porritt, 27, who worked as press secretary for former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay of Texas but is now at Outside Eyes, agrees.
"We're no longer in a position where we think, live and breathe politics, which is good and bad," he said. "There does come a point where you get politic'd out."
I think he's just about there... again. BTW, I hope this story keeps getting play. Everyone I tell it to is blown away.
Looks like we no longer have a viable Secret Service in this country any longer. When all of america clearly heard the "kill him" death threats and they hear "tell him", we know they're as corrupt as the day is long. We have no protection in this country any longer. It's time to begin screaming to Congress about this lack of protection and their intent to cover up the death threats we've now heard on television, played and replayed, both in Scranton and Clearwater and they're denying it.
It's time to bring suit against this pathetically broken Secret Service, people.
Now they're not permitting the press at Palin terror rallies. Oh well....that means people cannot vote for someone they don't know, can they?
Adios, Palin. It's time for you to head North to Alaska anyway, Miss Secessionista!

Aside from David Schuster's feeble attempt, I can't help but notice that the entire MSM, print and tv is ducking this issue.
OT - Washington Post Endorses Obama http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/...
You beat me to it! ; )
Good work!
Great article at the WP! Excellent piece.
i happened to see a few minutes of laura ingraham on the o'really? show. two things you need when you interview these shrill, whiny, b@tches: a lie detector and ear plugs.
Washington Post endorses Barack Obama for president.
"THE NOMINATING process this year produced two unusually talented and qualified presidential candidates. There are few public figures we have respected more over the years than Sen. John McCain. Yet it is without ambivalence that we endorse Sen. Barack Obama for president.
The choice is made easy in part by Mr. McCain's disappointing campaign, above all his irresponsible selection of a running mate who is not ready to be president. It is made easy in larger part, though, because of our admiration for Mr. Obama and the impressive qualities he has shown during this long race."
Link to follow.
Why didn't he just say that he is rubber and you are glue, what you say bounces off of me and sticks to you! Some where inside that pea brain of his the synapses were firring and with nothing to fall back on he just lied. Typical Republican.

MCCAIN'S FREDDIE MAC LOBBYIST.... Honestly, I have no idea what the McCain campaign was thinking.
The lobbying firm of the man Republicans say John McCain has chosen to begin planning a presidential transition earned more than a quarter of a million dollars this year representing Freddie Mac, one of the companies McCain blames for the nation's financial crisis.
Timmons & Co., whose founder and chairman emeritus is William Timmons Sr., was registered to lobby for Freddie Mac from 2000 through this month, when the federal government took over both Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae.
Newly available congressional records show Timmons's firm received $260,000 this year before its lobbying activities were barred under terms of the government rescue of the failed mortgage giant. Timmons, 77, is listed as a lobbyist for Freddie Mac on the company's midyear financial-disclosure form.
McCain told CBS, "[T]he influence that Fannie and Freddie had in the inside-the-beltway, old-boy network, which led to this kind of corruption is unacceptable." Soon after, he told a Wisconsin audience, "At the center of the problem were the lobbyists, politicians, and bureaucrats who succeeded in persuading Congress and the administration to ignore the festering problems at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac."
This, after McCain had tapped Freddie Mac's lobbyist to head his presidential transition team? And after he tapped a former Fannie Mae lobbyist as his campaign manager? Seriously?
By this standard, McCain probably should feel compelled to vote against himself.
Or, as Josh Marshall concluded, "I expect a lot of hypocrisy of all politicians, of both parties. But John McCain is really in a class of his own."~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Washington Monthly
I know John Sidney McCain III lies about them lobbyists, but I would never tell John's dear old sweet Mother that he lied about them, or that he lies a lot about nearly everything.
It would break her poor old heart.
"After making Joseph Wurzelbacher famous, McCain learned 3 key facts -- Joe owes back taxes, isn't licensed and Obama's plan would cut Joe's taxes."
Please please please drop this one. Equating opposition to the draconian sanctions regime to "lobbying effort on behalf of Saddam Hussein" is an insult to all progressives who opposed the sanctions on humanitarian grounds and themselves had no love for Saddam. Similarly, people who argued against going to war in Iraq (and most people who opposed the sanctions also opposed the war) were tarnished with accusations of lobbying on behalf of Saddam Hussein.
Please, John (and Nicolle), re-think this one because it comes off as demagoguery and undermines all the good work you do on other issues.
Please.
