After quitting her job in Alaska while many Americans struggle to make ends meet, a new CBS poll found that most Americans think she's not up to the task of being President---including a huge majority of Republicans.

If Sarah Palin is resigning her position as Alaska's Governor to run for president, she faces doubts – even from Republicans – about her ability to be an effective one, according to a new CBS News poll.

Less than one in four Americans, 22 percent in particular, say she does have the ability to be an effective president. Only 33 percent of Republicans say she does. Sixty five percent of all Americans, and 51 percent of Republicans say she does not.

In this CBS News Poll, conducted one week after Palin announced she would resign, these assessments are even more negative than they were among registered voters before last year's presidential election. Then, 37 percent of all registered voters thought Palin could be effective if it became necessary for her to take on the job, and 53 percent did not...read on

I'd say that's terrible news for her, and it shows that America isn't buying the reasons she gave for quitting with a year and a half left in her term during the nutty press conference she staged. And what was with all the animals quaking in the background?

Another CBS poll, which was released on July 13th, now shows that most Americans believe she quit to help her own political career.

A majority of Americans believe that Sarah Palin is resigning as governor of Alaska not because it's in the best interest of her state but because it will benefit her political career, a new CBS News poll finds.

Just 24 percent of those accept Palin's explanation that she resigned because it was the right thing to do for Alaska. More than twice that percentage – 52 percent – cited her political ambition as the reason for her resignation. An additional 14 percent said they don't know the reason.

Even Republicans are skeptical of the explanation, with a higher percentage saying Palin resigned for her political career (36 percent) than saying she did so for Alaska (31 percent).

Wonder if all those right-wing talking heads who were touting the earlier polls showing strong GOP support for Palin will bring these polls up ...

No apology necessary.
You should have used the bold button, too!

She has an Op Ed at WaPo and she clearly doesn't have a clue what cap and trade is though is the title of the piece and she rants about it for some length.

... her farewell speech as posted in the Alaska .gov site was beyond embarrassing, her English level rivals a high school dropout's. And she is supposed to be a journalism or communications major on top of that... ugh.

in Wasilia. Much less the most powerful nation (for now) on earth....

Is this idiot the second best the GOP had to offer? Talk about diminished expectations...

You are over estimating her, I would say she is not qualified to hand out toilet papers on public restrooms.

Just imagine if she and McHale's Navy had been appointed instead of Bush in 2000. They would've surrendered to Japan after 9/11.

Of course Bush attacked Iraq....

Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Most Americans are right about soon to be Former Gov. Palin.

She is only out for the money now. Money is so much better than power.

I'm sorry. I think I didn't hear that correctly.
Could it be that the winking and you betchas have lost there affect?

This paragraph in Sarah's OpEd in the WaPo is a little disconected.

"In addition to immediately increasing unemployment in the energy sector, even more American jobs will be threatened by the rising cost of doing business under the cap-and-tax plan. For example, the cost of farming will certainly increase, driving down farm incomes while driving up grocery prices. The costs of manufacturing, warehousing and transportation will also increase."

I don't see where farmer's Cheetos costs have to do with employment. And the... Oh never mind.

She's nuts and she makes my ears bleed.

Can you believe that we are evening talking about this possibility? She is an ignorant arrogrant grunt - and a nation of 300 million actually have her on the short list as their leader. I give up.

I wonder which one if her moral properly raised children said "Hell yes!"?

When will Child Services investigate the abuses she put her children through during the campaign??

I wonder if Scarborough will mention this poll as much as he's been mentioning the stupid poll where he claims most Americans are conservatives.

This is gonna make Mika and Norah O'Donnell cry.

It should be an embarassment for this country that this woman was even a slight consideration for the position of president of the United States. You just cannot make a silk purse out of a pig's ear. Even if the pig is wearing lipstick.

Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.

A have to make a very sincere comment, putting jokes aside. Would you honestly elect her as a mayor, or for that matter, as a school class president? I'm not joking, knowing how we know her now.

Translation of the rambling mess of a statement she made:

"I quit for the money and for a potential 2012 presidential run. Alaskans were a bridge to no where for my political and financial future. I threw in "God", "children", "troops" and "family" all for good measure in hopes to fool those too stupid enough to think for themselves, in other words, my base supporters. God bless you and God bless Alaska!"

You are closer to being correct than you probably realize.

Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.

don't forget the sports reference

ever notice how slight the difference is for such easy questions?
More than 90% should believe Palin is not qualified to hold higher office, not 51%. Why is that?

"Government by organized money is just as dangerous as Government by organized mob"

About 25% probably didn't even know who she was and the others were her base or her friends on FaceBook.

Sorry, but, if the eonomy is still trash at the end of term one, Sarah WOULD win against Obama. Remember this is the electorate that selected Bush twice, and remember that last election in the fall? Ya, the one where hope and change DID NOT win a landslide? It's sad to admit, but yes Sarah just could possibly be the first female president. Don't know the odds though.

If Sarah is the best woman the repubs can put on the ticket, the rest of the repub women should raise holy hell.

Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.

ConcernedCanuck's picture

Being a moronic, folksy, down home, idiot, worked wonders for Bush. People eat that crap up. And if hope and change becomes nothing more than doom, gloom and status quo, odds are, this dippy cheerleader could win. Ronnie Reagan? Bush 1 and 2?

These are my thoughts: by Sarah
Once you read this, you will already have read it.

Not quite a landslide by any stretch

should have been a cake walk and not even anywhere close. Now that the blinders are coming off, realism dictates it even closer next election, if not a loss due to the economy.

Because this is the Obama economy?

At least Obama's making some headway with the Pentagon's budget.

Depends on how you look at it.
2004.
Bush...62,039,073
Kerry...59,027,478
2000.
Bush..50,456,062
Gore..50,996,582.
1992..
Clinton..44,908,254
Bush1..39,102,343.
Even back in 1980.
Reagan..43,901,812
Carter..35,483,820.
And Carter only got 49 electoral votes. I'd like some one to explain that one too me.

So, I'd say it was a landslide. More people are voting.

Carter tried to tell the truth about energy, that we needed to sacrifice.

Reagan said, don't worry, be happy, consume, borrow and spend.

So

The GOP lost around 3mill voters And the Dems picked up around 10 mill plus the 3 mill the GOPers lost.
That's a landslide. It certainly is a mandate.
Granted, The GOPers had a larger turn out than in years past.
But they lost around 3mill anyway.
I can't see them getting them back in 2012.
The next election is Huge in 2010. Historically, the majority loses seats in a midterm election like the one coming.
I'd like to see more history made.

When the crap really hits the fan, which it will do. What we have now is nothing compared to the converging catastrophes of climate change, peak oil and peak national debt/interest payments.

When it really hits the country may just turn to a corn pone Nazi who will promise to set everything back to the 'way it was'.

Coming to a playhouse near you, stay tuned.

So you're saying Sarah still has a chance..

Honestly, how much trailer trash personas can one person suffer?? Stop with the dumbing down of America already.

Under the US electoral system, 22% support plus some habitual party-line voters is still enough to win an election on a bad day.

Blue Lensman's picture

If you add in the 13% who are "undecided". Who the hell are these people that either aren't sure or don't know who she is?

The fact that she could or would even have a chance to be president speaks volumes to our educational system.

southernman748's picture

is always cropping up when polls come out . I call it the stupid factor. 20% republicans are hanging on to the fringe of society. They are the % of people that would be in insane asylums if we still had them. Which come to think of it is a good reason to bring them back.

Shadowgm's picture

... is the only thing that might impact Obama's chances at a second term.

But I won't count Sarah out, because you can't underestimate the power of idiots in large numbers. We're talking people who believe there are Islamic terrorists waiting to row across the ocean to come here, hiding under the bed, poised to take over your neighborhood ... as well as touting the merits of a book that they think was written by a bunch of white guys.

When Palin becomes President I hope I'm too old to know what the hell is going on and I'm never aware of it.

... isn't for another three years and some. I know it's a national obsession, but why are we worrying/snickering about who does/doesn't stand a chance of being elected now? Plenty of time for the GOP to find someone even dumber, crazier and more corrupt that Palin (although that might take some effort, she's set a hell of a benchmark), and hopefully for Obama and his team to get their act together and the States to start seeing a bit of relief...

JohnnyBravo's picture

that's a good thing to see after a crappy day at work. Seriously, if she quit as governor, she would quit as president if god forbid McCain had passed away while in office.

Who the hell wants her in 2012? Oh, that's right...

Palin is schedule to speak at the Reagan Libary (Simi Valley, CA), on August 8th.

I think I am going to puke.

I had just seen Condi's mug grinning for her recent speaking engagement there. I thought that was bad enough.

Moan and groan.

Did anyone else read Palin's article in the Washington Post today. If not, it is a must. There is NO WAY she wrote that. N O W A Y!!

Shhhh. Don't let that get out. We want her to start a third party and further fragment and marginalize the right. We need Palin as a symbol of what's wrong with "conservative ideals". Now if only we could do the same for the left ...

Truly the woman is barely qualified to manage the local bowling alley lounge let alone qualified to be in high office . For God's sake Bush has even got it over her ! It's no secret that besides the rich and greedy most Republican supporters these days in particular suffer from gross ignorance and very low IQ's , what's that saying ? Birds of a feather ? If it were not for ignorance and stupidity the Republican party would pretty much be history .

McConkey is the litigant in William C. McConkey v. J. B. Van Hollen, the Wisconsin Supreme court case that could doom the gay marriage ban voted into the state constitution in 2006.

Turns out McConkey is a life-time Republican, who lived in Alaska for a time and quit the GOP because Sarah Palin was chosen as nominee for the vice-president. See http://www.madison.com/tct/news/458312
