This is how far it's gone. I wish David and I had a chance to include this Malkin nonsense in our new book, but we can't add much more.

Malkin: "Obama's war on fishing?!?!?!" In a March 9, post titled, "Obama's war on fishing?!?!?!" Michelle Malkin posted the ESPN column's claim that "[t]he Obama administration will accept no more public input for a federal strategy that could prohibit U.S. citizens from fishing the nation's oceans, coastal areas, Great Lakes, and even inland waters." Malkin added, "Longtime readers know I love to fish and have been at war with the anti-fishing nuts at PETA for years."

Here's the piece by Robert Montgomery on ESPN that got the wingnuts all lathered up.

After fish, what's next? Will Obama ban kittens? And then hold Kitten death panels?

Digby sez:

This is a woman who wrote book about liberals called "Unhinged" and she seems to believe that the Obama administration is secretly working as an agent of Code Pink and PETA. The Obama administration. At this point, they are so off the cliff that calling him a socialist is beginning to seem restrained. I'm expecting them to claim he's literally Satan by the next election.

It's too disorienting and weird to try to address rationally. The only thing I can do is shake my head and keep my fingers crossed that these people don't ever get their fingers on the button.

Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.

This paid political announcement was brought to you by Shimano, manufacturer of cycling, fishing and rowing equipment.

In From The Editor Steve Bowman, Executive Editor of ESPNOutdoors, offers an apologia for printing the "piece by Robert Montgomery on ESPN that got the wingnuts all lathered up".

And second, this "piece by Robert Montgomery" was based entirely on statements made by "Phil Morlock, director of environmental affairs for Shimano."

Shimano manufactures cycling, fishing and rowing equipment.

According to "Phil Morlock, director of environmental affairs for Shimano" the BEST way to save the environment is for more people to buy Shimano fishing equipment enjoy recreational fishing.

'nuff said!

"war on sport fishing." Thanks for the info, Mountain Man. :)

The entire story was difficult to understand, but relying 95 percent on quotes from someone who stands to gain financially if the issue is decided his company's way is bad reporting. Of course Malkin ignored (or couldn't find, because it was buried) the quote from the NOAA spokeswoman about the agency's having "no overt dislike" of sports fishing. Montgomery should apologize!! But Malkin shows her ignorance, willfully or not, by ignoring that all agencies have a limited time in which to gather public comment. Was this woman ever a reporter?

Good God! Rich, white, elistist, right wing, conservative, bigoted, racist, evil, murdering, thieving, lying, snotty, hateful fly fishermen. Death, death, death to all fly fishermen! I hope Obama passes the death penalty for fly fishing, and owning flies or any feathers, streamers, etc. The G-men should invade homes of suspected fly fishermen and open fire, fully automatic, immediately on finding evidence of fly tying or feathers.

I'm just superstitious enough to hedge my bets.

with dynamite.

The conservatives act like immature little high school brats determined to be pissed off about something/anything. I wish they would grow up, get over their own self importance and die peacefully of natural causes soon.

Shadowgm's picture

... when they were considering redefining certain types of pocket knives as switchblades, thus making them illegal? Oh, I guess you can't hijack a plane with a fishing rod ...

Idiots.

The Obama administration has ended public input for a federal strategy that could prohibit U.S. citizens from fishing some of the nation's oceans, coastal areas, Great Lakes, and even inland waters.

JAY-sus!! This numbskull writer makes it sound like the Obama administration didn't like the feedback it was getting and was now just ignoring the public.

WRONG.

ANY potential action by a government agency that is open to public input has a timeline that goes with it - usually 60 to 90 days. Then the public comment period is closed. This is standard procedure, to allow the public to express themselves.

I am tired of these right-wing idiots scaring the public into thinking the "gummint" is trying to take everything away from them. Like ANY natural resource, if a resource is getting extrememly scarce, some regulations are needed to make sure that resource survives.

Notice in the article there was no mention of any movement to limit recreational fishing. Of course, that didn't stop the right-wing fearmongering.

All that needs to be said on this.

Oh, also Malkin is as stupid as she is ugly--so bad that sharks wouldn't touch her if she were filleted for chum.

I honestly think that these people think that this is tit-for-tat... that they are just doing to Obama what the left did to Bush, only with Obama its x1000. While Bush was given ample opportunity to screw up, Obama was responsible to the complete collapse of western civilization before he was ever sworn in.

Bowed and scraped before him.

Actually, that's not true....there was no left during Chimp's term. I don't think there's much of one for Obama's anymore either.

The Democratic Party did, however. But they're not even breathing on 'left.'

The left fought against the prickish Thugs and were called traitors Anti-American and America haters for their trouble.

I received this video/teaser "share request" on YouTube entitled "FRAUD".

At first, I thought it was a joke, but these people are serious, and it is disturbing to watch.

It starts with 9/11 Truthers, followed immediately by Birthers claiming Obama was "installed" by the Media to continue the "cover-up".

Followed by people just generally ranting about how "screwed up" (my words) the government is and how "we need to do something about it".

It's one bizarre conspiracy theory after another, and while in my eyes it illustrates the absurdity of it all, and how it's the same nuts believing all these paranoid fantasies, the only thing that should be taken seriously from it is how a lack of education and mental stability is resulting in a growing population of angry stupid people that are bordering on dangerous.

Death panels? For KITTENS?!! Is that what you're telling me?

That's it. Obama and the democrats have gone too far.

I dipped my toe into CNN and MSNBC, but those days are over. Forgive me, Rupert Murdoch. My roaming days are over.

If it weren't for the danger that it might inspire some deranged bass fishermen to go ballistic I'd say it does more good than harm. All this sort of thing will do is convince your average psychosis free voter that the right wingers have gone off the deep end. It's just preaching to a very disturbed choir and there isn't anything that could shake them loose from their dementia anyway.

No public input on war = "As President-elect Bush has made very clear, he ran on a particular platform that was very carefully developed. It's his program, it's his agenda, and we have no intention at all of backing off of it. It's why we got elected. The suggestion that somehow... we should fundamentally change our beliefs, I just think is silly."

No public input on fishing = grab the pitchforks!

No, no! There really are monsters under the bed. Michelle has seen them. She has seen them many, many times. They look just like Barack Obama. Horrible! Horrible! Aaauuuugggh!

some information/analysis would have made for a more insightful post. Malkin ad hominem (though she always richly deserves it) didn't explain much.

Is there nothing US conservatives will not believe? Other than facts I mean.
