David Dayen and I edited this short video clip pretty quickly so I could use it during a panel discussion I was on at the AFN10 conference in DC this week. I think it was on CSPAN as well. Media Matters sent in some really nice footage to help it get off the ground and we added some from C&L and a few other links.

The point of the clip was to show how conservative members of the republican party in Congress are being used as transmitters for insane, crazy talk that is spewing out from right wing hate radio and FOX News. They are mainstreaming far right paranoid delusions that used to be discussed behind closed doors of 1990's Patriot/Militia meetings during the Clinton years, but now---hello America.

It's a major point that we make in our new book, "Over The Cliff."

You can see the full panel discussion at UStream. It was called: 'Tea Parties, Beck, Bachmann and Blarney' (The audio is pretty awful)

Eric Burns of Media Matters was the moderator and the panel was made up of:

Eric Burns
John Atlas
Alex Zaitchik
John Amato
Digby
James Rucker

Don't forget to grab a copy of our new book here.

I had a chance to talk to John Atlas after the panel during our book signing and he's a very cool guy who is a huge NY football Giants fan as well since he's in Jersey, so he's OK in my book.

Very sharp guy, very perceptive. Loved the things he said about the Democrats abandoning ACORN.

LAWRENCEVILLE GA — Three political activist groups are joining together Saturday to protest Gwinnett County’s new trash plan, which begins July 1.

The Four Corners Tea Party, FreedomWorks Gwinnett and Gwinnett Citizens for Responsible Government have organized the protest, which will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at the gazebo next to the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse on the Lawrenceville square.

Debbie Dooley, one of the event’s organizers, said the protesters will be urging the Gwinnett County commissioners to repeal the trash plan — and, in particular, remove the bill from homeowners’ property taxes.

“It’s our way of letting the commissioners know we remember their vote and we’re not going to forget it,” said Debbie Dooley, a Dacula resident and the Georgia grassroots coordinator for FreedomWorks. “We want to make sure they are held accountable for their vote.”

The county’s new solid waste program will make trash collection mandatory for all homeowners in unincorporated Gwinnett County. City residents are not affected by the plan.

Democracy is too important to be entrusted to politicians.

Protest!

check the comments on the original story at your link. They're actually comparing county trash pickup with living in the USSR.

They are fucking insane! That is the republican problem!

Unfortunately, if I am not mistaken, Media Matters somewhat undermines its point by either misconstruing the meaning of the very first speaker on their film or deliberately trying to twist his words by taking him out of context. Gohmert, R-TX, was posing a rhetorical question in order to oppose sending the vets back into combat before they are healed, not suggesting that the disabled continue fighting on the front lines. The rest of the clips indeed give a glimpse of the nutcases of the right.

One thing for sure , you had plenty of material to pick from John . Something is wrong with the Repugs , with their supporters as well ( many things actually ), these are not normal people .

Over the cliff is a good thing. Republicans are very bad news,
and over the cliff is a permanent condition!

This is certainly a strange time. One of our political parties has made a permanent trip to the loony bin. Today's news stories reveal the truth: conservatism is a mental illness, and should be classified and treated as such. These people need help!

it is not really the politicians that are messed up,,, it is
those who vote for them. Politicians will kiss the most ugliest baby to garner votes.

I just saw former senator Bill Frist on "Real Time with Bill Maher" and although he was off on many topics he was comparatively sane compared to the current crop of Republican legislators. To me it was so noticeable that it's the thing that stuck out the most about the entire show.

that many ignorant voters will think that these crazy fuckers can actual fix the challenges we currently have? They got us into this mess and they sure aren't going to make things better!

Just listening to that clip makes me ill......these people should be in a mental hospital; not CONGRESS!

An Obama presidency = Fascist regime? Fascism is on the extreme right of the political spectrum, and the wingnuts are making a thinly veiled promotion of it. If we let these loons run our country, it will be the end of the world as we know it.
