Saturday Stock Show madness: Obama is destroying the world
By John Amato Sunday Feb 01, 2009 1:00pm

Don't you just enjoy the bipartisan love from the FOX News Saturday stock shows? They grabbed their ankles for eight years of Bush, (borrowed a Rushism) but for Obama there is no common decency among them.
It's the usual claptrap about Obama and Socialism and handouts to the undeserving. But I certainly loved Cavuto's pitch that since Obama is freezing salaries for the White House staff, now the new rich are being suddenly defined as making 100K in America in Cavuto's mind.
What wankers.
CNBC is just as bad...

Hey here's a thought.
Maybe people who earn income ought to pay income taxes,
The rest of us earn wages.
Maybe people who earn income that is not from wages ought to pay the same rates that those of us that earn wages pay.
Tell any FUX Newz acquaintence (can we really call them "friends"?) that you think we should eliminate the capital gains tax. They will be surprised that you and them agree. Then tell them that all income should be taxed at the same rate. Warning that their heads just may explode.
Believe it or not I was discussing this with the US Rep from the next district over from me, one of the more progressive Dems. She actually disagreed. Which showed that she was either in the pocket of the corporate interests OR had no idea of how the stock market worked.
Those top two guys look like they're puckering up
To kiss
rash limpball's ass.
There's no hope left until we have a media that isn't squarely in the back pockets of the ruling elite. And it's not just Fox.
Until then I think I might just bow out for a while, chill out watching "I Love Lucy" re-runs and wait for the Superbowl tonight.
This is all too depressing. Why a good man like Obama sought after this job, I'll never understand. They will eat him alive.
your last sentence.
I believe Obama will get what he fights for.
The first question is, what will he fight for?
The second question is, will he win all the battles and lose the war?
Obama first needs to decide who his friends are because he already knows his enemies.
I'd advise him to rid himself of the wishy-washy, wimpy, self-serving, spineless Democratic leadership in Congress. They will be of no help to him. In fact, it's likely they will make things worse.
It's time for some Democratic housecleaning. Strike while the iron in hot.
Let me have a go at it:
Is FOX news made up completely of whores?
Do FOX news editors have sex with goats?
ends up with the ugly one.
Is in the eye of the beholder.
There are no ugly goats... just some are better looking than others.
It's the smell.

Who the hell owns Fox News Anyway???

Read them both. No-one should be suprised by the results.
Why are all these morons allowed to spew ingnorance and hate although they lost. They are a minority of failed policies.
because the corporate media is owned by 5 of the richest people/corporations in the world that have a vested interest in
spouting their viewscatapulting the propaganda?you probably differ with the social conservative view on assisted suicide.
then it's about time one learned the proverb, "a fool and his money are soon parted." I don't know how they have any viewers from the investor class anymore, considering some of Cavuto's talking points.
Not just because Mark Haines actually did his job by confronting Rush Limbaugh's hypocrisy and worse, but also because they actually have a relatively better ratio of left and right viewpoints in the panel discussions, even if it still isn't close to 1-to-1 matching.
Also, I feel CNBC cares much more about their audiences' fortunes than FBC, and the ratings would seem to support this past a cursory comparison of the reporting and commentary.
Having said that, everyone needs to work harder to communicate the truth about this new Employee Free Choice Act, because even Haines has been asking about the secret-ballot-elimination thing and has apparently not been informed that it isn't true.
Does that mean we should be able to assist the pundits in their suicides?

And a treat... (including an interview w/ C&L guest Mark Crispin Miller)
Orwell Rolls in His Grave "Could a media system, controlled by a few global corporations with the ability to overwhelm all competing voices, be able to turn lies into truth?..." This chilling documentary film examines the relationship between the media, corporate America, and government. In a country where the "top 1% control 90% of the wealth", the film argues that the media system is nothing but a "subsidiary of corporate America." Otherwise, every single prediction in the 1975 film "Rollerball" might have come true.
They remade Rollerball a few years ago.
It bombed.
because I heard there was no redeeming social commentary or any other value to the remake, and I doubt if the makers even got the point of the original.
Fox news producer. "If nobody sees it or reads it in the news, is it news?"
on its one hand, clapping.
You got it.
I would like these right wingers to explain to me how CEOs who lead their companies into Billion dollar losses in any given year are entitled to exhorbitant paychecks. Just how is it that these executives are "deserving" and worthy of millions and millions of dollars?
stupid fucks forget who initiated the rolling ball on this bailout/handout bullshit.
They need to be blaming Clinton because that's who they blame for every misstep The Imperial Chimp made.
We all know, that just like Reagan, the Idiot Bastard Son of 41 and Babs will be lionised by these wastes of skin in 3, 2, 1...
I get all my news from the web these days because there is little to gain from watching the continued nonsense of a press which assisted the last administration in going to war falsely and continues to distort the truth to the benefit of their corporate overlords.
It does make it a lot easier to see just how slanted these sorry bastards have become. They bit off a little more than they can chew when EVERYTHING about Bush went to shit. People figured out awhile back that the steak sandwich the mainstream media was trying to serve up was really a shit sandwich. C&L is a big beneficiary of the loss of honest news as are many of us so called liberal bloggers.
Enjoy.
Those three head shots just SCREAM "douchebag"!
Vote with your dollars: boycott fox and it's sponsors. Dry up their revenue stream and they will change their song in mid-chorus.
Ysbaddaden.
then he should use the bully pulpit and cow both the Democrats and GOP with the one thing that the elites fear most....it's time to call this what it is and has been for 30 years....a CLASS WAR!
The elites in this country have ridden the gravy train for 30 years...and robbed the train in the last 6 months with the rush through without a vote, the world is coming to an end, $700 billion handout to millionaires and corporations. They then took OUR money..PUBLIC MONEY...and paid bonuses for themselves for their great ability to destroy not only their companies, but our economy and possibly our country.
Enough is enough. Maybe if the rich start running scared in this country...things will change.
True. Why can't anyone get it through their heads though? It isn't Dem vs Rep at all. It should be obvious to everyone by now, but they still do not get it. You know what is hilarious? Reading about the global riots in other nations none of the protestors say anything about what party they support. They are mad as hell at the rich. Not a party. Being mad at a party ignores the rich, and they take the money and skip off into the sunset. Sad.
Yeah, those global riots are a real riot watching them.
for once again not getting the point Ron. Don't worry, the rich Dems will look out for you. LOL.
don't you need to have a point first...before you can get there? LOL. :0)
I agreed with your point. It is a class war, and the response from the peanut gallery was??? Not worth posting.
I'm curious who they think their political parties will support when the class war really heats up. Betcha it isn't anyone grassroots, or people earning less than a quarter mill a year. Just my guess.
what do we need...a firewall between investment banks and commercial banks...remember that nasty little piece of legislation that the conservatives said was the bane to capitalism...it was called Glass-Steagall...we need limits on salaries for CEOs, since these people no longer respect the RULES of capitalism...the rules that say...if you do a bad job...if you lose money for your stockholders...you get FIRED...and your companies DIE...you don't get a do-over in the free market.
I've said we need Glass-Steagall II on these boards. But an updated one that includes the new financial vehicles and has a provision to limit the creation of more of them, unless they are reviewed and subject to the new regulations.
puleeeease...tell that to the dinosaurs. If your company is inefficient and unprofitable...it dies. PERIOD.
If the government is so worried about companies amassing too much size...then LEGISLATE against it...put limits on company size and subsequently...a limit on CEO pay.
I don't remember who said that exactly but it was a guest on CNBC last fall.
"too big to NOT break up"
That means it's too big to exist.
water into a bathtub that is not plugged, will never fill it up.
argument?
I love when the wingnuts start screaming how we can't be like China.
Yeah...all those exports, new infrastructure, growing standard of living, growing economy...yeah...we certainly don't want that to happen here.
that the big factor in China's economic superpower status, is the relocation of industry from the West, to Asia. GM is hurting here, but not there. No mention of that in the media though.
U.S. cars made by foreigners...who then export back to...OURSELVES!
All that fake "support American made" strikes an empty chord when it isn't made there.
Here is the sad thing about this reflexive media position opposing Obama: it doesn't even do the corporations behind the media propaganda any good.
I mean, the corporations hated Clinton in part because they wanted to put Bush, or someone like him - someone manipulable and obedient - into the White House. So the media developed its campaign of hatred against Clinton, and the 2000 election was rigged, and Gore lost and Bush won. And if you hate the propaganda media and the corporate masters behind them, well, at least their selfish, power-hungry motives were understandable. Evil, but understandable.
But the media, the corporations behind them, and the Republican party which is the political apparatus of the corporate interests, they have no plan. It is clear that more than just the economy collapsed last autumn: so did any sign of goals or coordination among the corporate class.
So now they're all acting out of reflex and instinct, but without a plan. Fox News hates Obama because, well, because he's a DEMOCRAT, as if being a Democrat or a Republican really makes a difference to a corporation. The corporations want the freedom to make money without regulation, without limit, and without taxes: that's what they want. Obama doesn't have to be their foe. A pragmatist, he's certainly not going to give them everything they want, but at the same time they have some power and he has power, and he has reached out to them to find a confluence of interests, and they have reflexively slapped his hand away.
The confusion in the Obama Administration right now must be palpable. If the Republican ideology is that every problem can be solved with a tax cut, Obama's ideology is clearly that reason and a mutual confluence of interest can bring parties together to work for a common goal.
But the corporatists are beyond that. They have no direction, no strategy, and they're looking for leadership to a fat radio shock-jock whose most influential days were during the Reagan Administration. Obama's outreach is both a way for him to increase his own support, but is also the only salvation available to the fractured shards of the Right that put Bush in power. Obama is reaching out a hand, and the corporatists, the Republicans, and the media are fighting each other for the privilege of biting it.
And what will happen is, Obama will realize that there is no working with these madmen until their rage over losing power has worked itself out. And he will get his 60th Senate vote somehow. And he will press forward without them, and they will be left in the dust. And in their minds, it will be HIS fault for superceding their entitled place of power, and not THEIR fault for failing to take the deals that he offered them.
And meanwhile they work to harm Obama, they work to harm the nation, and worst of all, they work to harm themselves, simply because they are too blinded by arrogance and entitlement to realize that they are no longer in power.
NAFTA
WTO among others.
And for the Financial Sector:
Financial Modernization Bill of 1999
Commodities Futures and Modernization Act of 2000,
Bush gave them the war in IRAQ and
Reagan, Bush I and Clinton drove the economy to the cliff and W pushed it over.
I am not fond of any of them.
In fact I am downright hostile.
The MSM is functioning like BushCo Dead enders. They do not what to come to terms with bush crimes or their own complicity. It was interesting start, but now it's getting useless and embarrasing. Is it not time for the MSM to close down for re-tooling? I'll watch again when they clean out the last of the Bushies from my TV.
don't be fooled by all this malarkey...this media stunt is no accident. they are not flopping around gasping but actually throwing mud and stone at other people. this is a propaganda retool and a hard sell. this ideology has a claw in the body politic and is working for leverage. bipartisanship is not real in these times and technically the republicans are responsible for far too much lying and obfuscation to be good for any nation. we should be working on the planet and species survival but all we are focused on is town and state. i mean why do i keep seeing boener's face in my head as a flashback horror???
Follow the misadventures of a group of Wall Street backstabbing greedmeisters looking for work on Fox News as commentators. Watch the hijinx as Neil Cavuto strokes their tender egos within an inch of their lives. See the paper tigers of the modern Republican party try to eviscerate Pres. Obama with arguments as deadly and substantial as a plastic fork and spoon. Laugh with the rest of America as these fools troll and cavort around like the twits on Monty Python.
Now that's comedy!
I say we should listen to what Al Pacino's character on 'Scent of a Woman' suggest.
Sounds like Herman's Head.
when things REALLY begin to get tough..specially during a long hot summer...the people will be out in the street this time.
When they can't feed their kids or keep a roof over their head...trust me...they'll get motivated.
it is political fact...if real action is not taken...the blowback on this is gonna be BAD.
Unemployment...in REAL terms...is certainly north of 10% and some studies have it at north of 15%.
The day of reckoning is coming.
it prolongs the inevitable when you distract the masses with political partisanship theater.
until bellies start growling...and people begin to realize that the reality is...life is sucking.
Then they start looking for someone to blame. Driving into a cul de sac in a gated community in your Jaquar is going to start being a tenous situation.
all kidding aside, I have never seen anything like this in my life, and I am 100% positive that we haven't even witnessed the tip of the iceberg yet. That's the only reason politicians worldwide are rushing to toss money in any and all directions. They know what is going to happen and they want to have the excuse that they "tried"....stay tuned.
it is definitely more of a prediction. An easy one at that.
Ya saw how hard it was for the Dems to gain seats in '06 with the war(s) as an issue. And how much easier to gain seats this last time around with the economy?
Same in 2010 when it's exponentially worse. With the caveats that
1. voters too disgusted to vote may balance out non-voters finally fed up enough to start voting.
2. backlash against the Dems when their (Obama, the House, the Senate) too little too late efforts flop
Even if the Dems hold even or pickup seats, don't hope for much.
Why are wall street robber barons entitled to these bonuses? They were promised them. They are told - this is you salary (which is line item that shareholders can look at in advance) and this will be your bonus and it will be on a order of magnitude greater than your salary - bonuses cannot be a line item because they are an unknown quantity at the time. A scam.
They feel entitled to them. The system of the large bonuses sounds good at first - good year - reward that with a good bonus but when things go sour then their compensation is less than promised. Let's face it and with all due respect to the "geniuses of wall street" - it ain't hard for a bank to make money when the economy is in a upswing - lotsa transactions means lotsa commissions - it's not rocket science - then add in some ponzi type derivative scheme or leverage the shit out of every dollar of equity you have and these crooks feel entitled to these bonuses just as the republicans feel entitled to getting their way in congress - well the system is broke and they broke it - just as the republicans did.
The way the system works is based on how tall can you stack stuff - instead of a solid pyramid with a good foundation you stack things up as high and thin as you can - sure it blow over in the slightest wind but the guy with the yardstick who is going to measure it and calculate your bonus from that height doesn't care - it's other people's money anyway.
They are in denial/panic and trying to grab what they can as the ship sinks stomping over old ladies to get to the dry land of their posh early retirement.
The system is broke - as Buffet said you don't know who is swimming naked til the tide goes out. That system on relying on the tide is broken cause that's too late. Shareholders need to start demanding accountability - articles of incorporation need to amended - oversight needs to finally be implemented not just on the Federal level but the corporate level - a fool and their money are soon parted.
I'm sorry did I just type all that?
Yes.
My image of them is much more heroic. It was they, after all, who were assuming all the risk, right? Poor guys. Imagine the stress of losing all that money for literally hundreds of millions of people then having to walk away in shame. Without a job. Just a multi-million-dollar bonus.
Just think, they'll probably have to sell that third house, the one they rent out as a tax break in the Bahamas. They might even have to unload the yacht, and you know how quickly vessels depreciate. And in this market. But somehow, they'll manage.
Heroes all. Like the crew of the Titanic, only instead of going down with the ship, they fought off the women, children, old and crippled people, pushed them out of the way, so they could make room for their jewels in the lifeboat.
There's not a real news network in the bunch - it's all Re-Thuglic propoganda. This is one of the reasons we stopped watching television over 15 years ago. We honestly haven't missed it a bit.

I use it to watch old movie serials on DVD's: The Spider's Web, The Spider Returns, The Shadow, Jungle-Girl, The Green Hornet, The Green Hornet Returns, King of the Rocketmen, Daredevils of the Red Circle, Batman (Lewis Wilson), Batman and Robin (Robert Lowery), The Lone Ranger (Lee Powell), The Lone Ranger Rides Again (Robert Livingston), Flash Gordon, Flash Gordon's Trip to Mars, and Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe (Buster Crabbe), Dr. Mabuse der Spieler, Superman and Superman v Atom Man (Kirk Alyn), Tarzan the Tiger (Frank Merrill), Captain Marvel (Tom Tyler) and tonight probably starting the Drums of Fu Manchu.
I'll probably watch a DVD of the Three Stooges to get warmed up.
Right. My kids find a TV series they like and they buy/borrow the box sets to watch. Like "Six Feet Under", "West Wing", etc. They were fine with out choice and they're voracious readers with outstanding writing skills - all three have won writing awards and never fail to get remarks from their college professors on the quality of their writing. And they're critical thinkers.
My brother watches all the old movies - loves them. I like a lot of these too, and for serials my favorites were "Hogan's Heros" and "Maverick"
My son will be writing programs for Real Time video games when he gets his degree. Reads all the super-hero comics now as a result. His favorite is the "Sandman" Series by Neil Gaiman.

The American Corporate owned and run media is desperate to convince the ignorant masses that the world will end if they get government (socialized) medicine.
They face a daunting uphill battle. People are hurting so bad they are desperate to try anything now - even in the face of the relentless drumbeat of the media's ridiculous claim that this will bring about the downfall of America.
Re-Thuglics really DON'T get it. They don't understand pain and suffering and desperation. These are of course, all privileged persons telling those with NOTHING - that they are better off as they are.

In a time when they were taking our retirement money and redistributing our income to themselves, the banks and investment firms were giving out multi-million-dollar bonuses, under the auspices of "we just can't recruit the talent if we don't pay those bonuses."
Bullshit.
So while they retire early, and debate whether they should come out for a mere $10 million bonus instead of a $30 million bonus, regular people are going to have to work into their 70s and 80s to make up what was essentially stolen from them.
I'm sick of hearing about how many millions we need to pay people to "retain talent." These are jobs that would easily be filled by intelligent graduates.
These are people who, if they were working for the government safeguarding our retirement plans and they did the same thing, we'd take them out and put them to the guillotine.
But because they work for private corporations, we're supposed to feel sorry that they just aren't getting paid what they're worth. Well neither are the millions of people who've lost their jobs because of the banks' and investment firms' bad, risky decisions. Sounds like a bonus is the last thing they should get.
"just trade...if you weren't working here...you'd be driving trucks!"
- John Gutfreund, Chairman...Goldman Sachs.
The citizens of ALL the G8 countries that maintain a high degree of socialism (such as Sweden) enjoy a much higher standard of living than Americans. The United states and its failed, obsolete capitalism is at the very bottom of the barrel. In fact, there are 29 nations that are NOT in the G7, some developing, some borderline Third World, that beat the pants off the U.S. in every measure of quality of life.
Wake up, America! The greedy capitalist pigs have been lying to you for decades. They have dumbed you down through the schools and the mass media. Their evil propaganda on Fox News is so blatantly obvious it is a wonder that any patriotic American cannot see through it. It is a wonder we haven't challenged Fox more forcefully. We have a chance now to make change peacefully--or will the United States wake only to violence?
Americans have grown up with publicly funded schools, roads, postal delivery, fireman, police, roads, hospitals, parks, libraries, military, colleges and social security...
Yet, they think socialism is some mythical atheist anarcho-communist conspiracy that's secretly undermining their morality, stealing their taxes and defiling their virginal daughters.
Let's simplify things:
1) If you offered to allow Americans keep every cent of their income tax, they'd say "Hell, yeah!!! Now yer talkin', chief."
2) Yet the moment you say you're going to stop funding public schools, roads, social security and fire departments, or privatize everything they'd (rightly) say, "Whoa, hold on a minute, that's un-American!"
Decades of Red Scare propaganda, weak liberal leadership, and incomplete/undervalued socio-political education has (not surprisingly) led to an extremely deluded view of socialism.
The irony is--as Michael Moore pointed out so beautifully in "Sicko"--while it's imperative that U.S. companies draw from ideas and talent globally to stay competitive, our country isn't allowed to learn from or borrow ideas that have proven successful abroad, particularly if they might be socialist ideas.
The greedy bastards are getting scared. Good. They should be.

heh...don't threaten me with a good time!
Madame Guillotine, you are wanted at customer service.
I've got a candidate for who goes in first. I don't think I need to give anyone a hint.
...is the questions they ask in the text at the bottom of the screen, permitting them to suggest absurdities without stating them (i.e. we're not SAYING that Democrats are socialists, we're just asking).
Wish I had my own TV news network so I could textually ask some "questions"...
Is Rupert Murdoch a child molester?
Does Dick Cheney have a soul?
Does George W. Bush have a brain?
Does Ann Coulter strangle puppies in her bed each night?
Delusion is a sad thing to watch. These people need years of psychoanalysis.
That makes the scroll for "White House Pay Raise: Is 100K the new rich" interesting. Republicans are now campaigning for _higher_ government salaries?
dude number 1 is freaky looking.
the more physical the labor, the lower the tax rate.
the republicans are the absolute whiniest group of neanderthals left on this planet. that's a bit severe for polite discourse but what are we supposed to think when fox is so obviously in bed with its capitalist controllers. the media in part belongs to the public common and good and we must get back to how that is so. as we lose touch these ripe ideologies will begin to erode the public good and knowledge. when our experience becomes ruled by our lower drives we will create structures just bad for life. fox is scratching out codes for the free market and creating possible realities. it is a distortion of truth more than a lie but they have yet to explain to the mass audience the actual theory why say, low taxes for the rich are good. what is a reasonable period of time to know the proof?
John, where does Fox find these guys?
Seriously, I only watch Fox through C&L, but the only talking head on their roster I'd EVER heard of prior to Fox becoming a channel was Brit Hume. And HE was a nobody.
Who is Neil Cavuto? Did they find him pushing a cart on an American Airlines flight? Someone should probably break the news to him that the yuppie Gordon-Gecko-wannabe white-collared shirt (I bet he's even got the suspenders) went the way of the Flashdance ripped T look.
But worse, the nameless minions they interview seem to be either local Young Republican Club recruits who were rejected for being too eager or unemployed used car salesmen.
I guess I shouldn't expect so much from a bunch of sellout hacks.
Of course. It's the fault of the guy who's been in office 10 days. That makes perfect sense. Funny how everything that happened in Bush's first term (and beyond) was Clinton's fault but Obama is already getting the blame after less than 2 weeks.
?

FuxNews cowards. Same sh*t, different day. It never ends with these prevaricating, bedwetting, kick-you-in-the-back, gutless turds.
Feh!
