Thanks For The Company. What A Ride It Has Been!

I just want to thank all the C&L readers for joining me and the team in our quest to try and help heal this nation from Conservative rule these last four years. What a wild ride it's been. Of course, the Villagers are spinning as fast as they can and writing articles assuring us that this is a right of center nation. Don't believe it.

And who would have thought that we'd be on the threshold of electing the first African American President?

Duncan writes:

I didn't think I would see it, or even anything this close, either. It isn't because I think the country is so racist that a rough plurality of voters wouldn't vote for an African-American, it's because winning a presidential election campaign is hard. Winning a presidential primary campaign is hard. Becoming a senator or governor is hard. Achieving enough in life that running for senator or governor is even an option is hard. And all of that is just a little bit harder if you aren't white. There are barriers, some big and some small, at every level. Given that, and given the number of people who aren't just simply white but are born on third base, it was hard to imagine that anyone could possibly manage to actually do it.

I actually did believe that I would see it in my lifetime, but not the prospect of it so soon. And because of Hillary Clinton, the prospects for the first woman President are right there with us as well. Only from the left could these ideas ever be realized and acted upon.

So what kind of nation are we then, Jon Meacham?

Life wouldn't be the same without Crooks and Liars. Thank YOU, John.

The work has just begun.

It really wouldn't be the same. Thanks John.

Reality sucked tonight. Wanted to be here instead of working.
But, YEEEEEEEE FREAKINGGGGG HAWWWWWWWWW

what TheWalrus is talking about... I agree wholeheartedly, John. I've had years of enjoyable and upsetting reading pleasure, all the while buffetted knowing there were alot of other like-minded people out there hoping to turn the crazy last 8 years around.

One thousand thank-yous to you and everyone at C&L!

Thank you for building such a great vehicle for which to take this wild and thrilling ride!

It's been a blast and I always look forward to seeing what the people post here!

Thanks again and keep it up!!!

In a weird, twisted kinda way, we have Bush to thank for this. A more competent President could have/would have just perpetuated the status quo....

see, and I didn't think I would have a single positive memory of Bush, but C&L is now going to be the best thing Bush gave us! thanks again C&L!

Thanks to C&L, Bush has managed to live up to his pledge to be the "The Education President". It is through C&L's timely and informative coverage of Bush's criminal activities that I am now quite knowledgeable on the subjects of:

Foreign Policy
Domestic Policy
The Impeachment Process Re: The President
The Impeachment Process Re: The Justices of the Supreme Court
Trade Policy
Economic Policy
The Powers of the Executive Branch
Constitutional Law
Powers of the House of Representatives
Powers of the Senate
The Geneva Conventions
Torture
Powers of The Justice Department
Powers of the Attorney General
The Hatch Act
The Federal Emergency Management Agency
The Posse Comitatus Act
The Office of Special Counsel
The Office of Inspector General
Contempt of Congress
The Federal Reserve
Money as Debt
Derivative Investment Vehicles

This list goes on and on...

and the education has been expensive: $33,000 per person.

CoIntelPro.PronktasticlyAgainst.SCLM.E-Voting.Incumbents

If Bush hadn't screwed us over as he did, we'd probably have mediocrity at best. Now, we truly have a leader.

OURS! Keep up the good work!

Thank you, John. Make sure you take that time off & take care of yourself!

And thank you again!

MSNBC is calling Pennsylvania for Obama.

Tweety says McCain's strategy has crashed.

pick a usual screaming fake GOP topic and they will vote to defend it.

WooHoo!!

Thank YOU, John, for being one of the founders of the conservative COUNTER revolution. Through the efforts of people like you, we'll manage to finally push the Overton Window back where it's supposed to be.

I thought the "Overtown Window" was what the 'Miami 7' were looking out when they got swept up a couple of years back...

http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,859...

I think you might be confusing that with the "Motown Window." That's where you get arrested and charged with trying to blow up Ronnie Spector and The Ronettes.

You've earned it.
Thank You John.
Well Done.:)

Thanks a lot.

Thanks a bunch John. We will win tonight thanks to people like you Huffo, DailyKos etc... Keep up the fight to keep this country blue and away from the extreme right. OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!

I got my country back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But I'm holding the cork until I hear McCain's concession speech.

I was very apathetic to politics much of my life and didn't "wake up" until 2003 or so. A big thanks to C&L and everyone who posts comments here. Without you I would still be one of the many zombies who still exist in this country.

I've been here almost since the beginning and I can honestly say I really respect what you've done here John. When very few were brave enough to speak truth to power, you were there, yelling it. You rock!!

thanks John and Nicole and everyone. You have had one of the great forums, and much more to come please!

Thank you John and all you smart and sexy C&L'rs. You're all great, great American neighbours.

Now I know my 2 year old grand daughter, Alessandra Grace will have a real chance in a new world.Where people don't suck the life out of hard working , honest people.
Thank you!

I hold this truth, to be self-evident, that's why it's time for Barack Obama to become President, change begins when, we believe, in a brighter day and way to succeed...

A Brighter Day Will Come

for providing this comfy little home away from home and also for your tolerance and forbearance in difficult times.

Thank you John and the rest of C&L.

I'm F-ing drunk and i have to work in six hours. oops. I'm thinking about calling in sick.

Thanks are due to you and your team, John. I've been reading this blog for a couple of years now - always classy, always timely, always fearless. You guys have done yeoman's work here.

C&L is one of the best political news sources around.

You take care and I wish you all the best.

Selma in Canada

and everybody else who makes C&L a daily read -- and often more times a day than I should but I'm self-employed so what the heck!

My fellow posters are brilliant and make me want to fight the good fight every day -- not just every four years

everybody!

Now, take it from an old broad, ease up, chill, and take a hit off this sucker!

WHOO-EEEEEEEEEE!!

Thanks for the great forum! Political scientists will study these blogs years from now and will be amazed at how determined people were to bring an end to the dark Bush years.

John I can't put into words what it has been like for me the past four years and more. Thank god I found Crooks and Liars. Otherwise I don't know what I would have done. You have given me and a bunch of others who come here pretty much every day (and others who stop in for only a moment as well), you have given us an outlet and a community. I understand how hard it has been on you physically and hope that you get some rest so that you can help make the next four and more years be a much happier time for us and the country. But most of all I want to thank you from as deep as I have. And I want to thank all the other people who work at C+L. You are all so fucking great. And as I have said more than once the commenters are the best, smartest bunch of people I know (scary thought). Thanks!

I don't think so. You just have to move to the right states. Look at Graham, Dole, Makaka et al.

We won. It's over. Florida for Barak.

The end of the tunnel is here.

YAY!

We rock.

it aint over, till its over

Trust me, it's over. They're just pretending up there on TV, It's so over it isn't funny.

No.. it IS funny. Because I am laughing at Faux and Palin, et al.

What has the fat lady has to say about it?

On the up side, looks like Robert Wexler will be back from Palm Beach Co.

Toldja so.

We won.

After I voted today, I actually thought about Crooks and Liars today and thought how much you have kept me sane over the last 4 years. After Kerry lost and didn't fight, I was depressed for days. But then we got busy.

Thank-YOU for doing what you do. And thank Nicolle and Steve Benen and Nonny for your insights and posts and Xoites and Stanley and everyone else that I have had a virtual connection to over the years.
Now, go take a much deserved rest after tonight and Heal YOURSELF!!!

before i found your site during katrina, i thought blogging and bloggers were silly

you showed me the power of the internet

you are a true pioneer in the field

no matter what happens tonite...you made a difference...not too many people in this world can say that

god bless you john...and please, take care of your health

I have to say thank you to Joe McCarthy for finding this site because Joe has said some great things. Thank Uncle Joe.

gonna make me cry. Hand me a tissue

Seriously, Uncle Joe and Captain Kangaroo, you make it fun here.

Its everybody!! Thanks Jo.

Thank you John for this wonderful site.

Thank you Crooks and Liars regulars for your sharp, witty and often challenging insight.

Thank you for allowing me to have a say in all this.

Someday, my two year old son will thank you all too.

but MSNBC was just showing west palm beach again and they STILL have fucked up ballots to fill out. what the hell???

the scanners. Happened to me on Fri with one of my ballots. Had to reinsert it four times before it read. I'm guessing they're hustling them into the scanners quickly.

now she can work on giving her hubby a woody

They are both too evil to have orgasms.

I'm from Australia, I came here looking for the the truth and REAL AMERICANS and I've found them. Thanks to John and all the contributors. Hagen just beat Dole, sweeeet.

for helping Obama realize his dream and for saving my sanity over these past months. You guys are true patriots. Kudos for a job well done!

Have a great vacation, John. You deserve only the best!

I've been reading C&L for a few years now...I somehow found your site in the years after 9/11, looking for voices that were as afraid of Bush as I was.
Your tireless efforts & devotion to seeking the truth have been a beacon of light to the millions of people wondering how to stop the downward spiral that the U.S. has found itself in.
A friendly neighbour from the north, wishing a great party for Obama tonight...and a toast to C&L who certainly have been instrumental in getting there.
Lynda in Canada...

like the lady said, take a couple of killer hits and wash it down with a pina colada.

Then we will all pay attention that this crap won't happen again.

Thanks John, your house has been a place of good thought and good company with love of a country that comes from deep within the soul and compassion for the common folk.

Now get that rest your doc wants you to have!

PEACE by popular demand!

...

First John, thanks for C&L. I found you about 3 years ago when I was telling a coworker about something I saw on tv an did a search to find him the video. Checked the site every day since. You've bee huge.

To get a little personal, I had cancer 5 years ago. I thought my daughter (now 9) might live in a world of perpetual war, racial strife, etc. Now, I don't think Barack Obama is mankind's savior, and there's a s**tload of work to do and progress to be made (California prop 8, I'm lookin' at you) but dammit I'm more hopeful and proud than I have been in years. My 84 year-old parents, from Alabama and Texas, just voted for a black man for president. Halleh-freakin-leujah.

not enough good parents in the world

give your daughter a hug from all of us

I just went in and gave her a kiss, and whispered in her sleeping ear that Barack won, and I swear to god, she smiled. God, did she smile.

I'm an Agnostic, but I swear sometimes....I gotta wonder. Thank you America.

!!

Yep

Just echoing what others have already said but please let me take some poetic license by mixing some words from poets who've said it better than I can.

It's been a long, strange trip so far but we've got miles to go before we sleep. Keep up the good work John! We'll be here when you need us.

I started as a reader of your blog along with perusing "News Hounds" and "Daily Kos". At the time, I was heartsick and I needed to read like-minded voices who were trying to call out Bush and his shenanigans. As a participant, I have learned so much from you all. And I thank you for the news, the music threads, the comraderie and of course the Buffy nostalgia. It has given me hope many times that there are others out there working for a better country. I was also glad that there were others who were striving for integrity, transparency and honesty from our leaders.

And even if Mr. Obama makes it, the work goes on. We have to fight for this new country. And we've got to continue to be vigilant so that our progressive values continue to be heard in the government.

The best times are yet to come!

Thanks to all of you!
I try and read this blog every day at least and feel so comfortable writing in and reading whats been written and now that you work so hard John, thanks!

My county has a record turnout of over 80%.
Lines were short and the weather was beautiful.
Last time I voted for Kerry a former state senator was behind me.
Today he is in jail for online child sex solicitation.
I still think back that Cindy Sheehan started the ball rolling by standing up to Bush and he refused to meet with her. That is when his downfall started. She stood up to him. And then Katrina exposed the rot.

What a difference 4 years makes!

...I really mean that. I am so grateful that I was alerted to this web site three years ago. I thought that I was completely loopy and that I was an aberration in this country until I found the insightful and intelligent writers and commentary on this blog. So, John and Nicole and all of the rest of the C&L crew, thanks again for the forum and you have let me know that I am not alone.

Are you kidding?!? Thank YOU, John, and all the members of the C&L team for bringing truth to light during the "dark ages" these many long years. It's be a relief to have this educated community to turn to. Keep on keepin' on. There's still a lot of work to do.

cuttr, tell your parents they rock!

I've been active for a long time in politics, the last couple of years moreso, esp. online.

This year is amazing to me. After 26 years of marriage (to a wonderful man), he's finally become politically interested! He's been the one at the phone banks etc. this year!

Today, I get this "romantic" email from him about how he plans to spend the evening:

"I plan on getting a bottle of champagne on the way home, something for dinner(maybe a pizza?), and planting myself in front of the big screen and watching the election returns when I get home."

Oh good GOD, what have I created!? lolol...

Good to see him so involved, but if ya'll only knew!

that does not bode well

it means that the far right repugs still hold sway

I would have gone insane without this site. John, I think you've saved a lot of people's sanity. Sites like these have helped bring many a monster down, don't let any say otherwise. Go on that vacation, you've earned it.

Thank you.

Criminy!
It's been a long wait. Thank you for making it a little easier.
We can has a sing along.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTRXBEApfko&eu...

It's been a pleasure John. Haven't wasted any time here in my opinion!! Lots of fun. Thanks for doing what you do. Take care.

I was severely slow off the mark when it came to blogs. It has been only within the last 6 months that I have started my own.

But I can say, without question, that C&L is my favorite.

Thank you for everything you do and will do in the future.

I didn't discover you guys until 2 years (or so) ago, but I can't imagine how tough it would have been getting through the waning Bush years and the McCain/Palin campaign without you.

GO OBAMA!!!!!

Ohio is for Obama? WOW! cool!

NO JOHN!

It is we who are thankful for you!

Don't plan on going anywhere, we have to keep some people in line.

CoIntelPro.PronktasticlyAgainst.SCLM.E-Voting.Incumbents

... gives Obama 195. Add 55 for California - how can he lose?
That's not even counting Florida and the rest of the west

Explain to me how that bat shit Crazy Beeeotch can be ahead?
WTF!

THANK YOU GUYS AND GALS, EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU.

for the commitment
for the challenges
for the purposefulness
for the energy
for the determination
for the faith
for the information
for the rants
for the links
for the everything else

Thank you all endlessly.

Your welcome and thanks to you John, Nicole and everyone else. Without C&L I think I would have lost my mind.

... wondering whether there is any possibility of a legal challenge anywhere.

Can you believe that?

Something like 3-1/2 million popular vote lead so far. Stick a fork. I honestly don't think McCain has anymore dishonesty or dishonor left in him. He's done.

Appreciate the comments. By they way, my other daughter is currently student teaching in North Carolina, and another proud Obama supporter. Yep, I'm taking credit for that too! Bye Liddy!

the world around you acting so comprehensively against your world view so thank you John. You have helped many of us hanging on to that sense that the real world (that liberal biased reality) could rise up over stupidity again :) Enjoy your break and if you are in Sydney I think we can find a couple of C&Lers to buy you one or two beers.

By the way, currently, proposals to expand stem cell research and Medicinal MJ in Michigan are winning. Woo Hoo!

A friend of mine turned me on to your site weeks ago, and I've been hooked ever since. You've helped keep some sanity in all this insanity. I'll still check here everyday!

I couldn't have gotten through the last four years without C&L.

There will be wailing on the Factor

had to get a new identity to overcome the new system! But I am glad I am back in time to say, THANK YOU for this site!
My whole political awareness dates from about 3 years ago when someone told me about this site. And it has been so wonderful to hear all these view points and learn so much.
Looking forward to a lot more!

You all did a fantastic job here at C&L. I hope that we Independent, non party affiliated voters turned out in force to also help Obama. I know I sure did.

What a wonderful evening! John, this site is exceptional. I've been a loyal C&Ler for years. Nicole...I so look forward to reading your posts...Insightful, intelligent and very well written.

Gotta give it to Nate and the folks at 538.com. On the ball.

A glimpse of the McCain of old. Gracious.

Why didn't he behave that way throughout his campaign? At least he exited with the class that he should have displayed all a long.

FOR ALL TIMES

You guys have been a bright spot in what has felt like a dark period. I thank everyone here, too, for the support & comments. I run a little chick blog and C&L picked up 3 of my posts when I thought that no one was listening or watching. The support here and all the great conversation and comments, truly amazing. This is a great night and a historic moment. Thanks all!

Thank you, Mr. Amato and all the others at C&L. This is the best blog site going!!!! Thanks for all the work you do and have done.

Yep.

Just got back from a C&L Election Night Party. What a blast.
Thanks so much for the kind words...

..I feel forever in your debt for even allowing fringe supporters (ie, Canadians) like me to participate in and try to help wherever possible in this long, long journey towards the light.

Your gain is everyone's gain. Imo, you deserve a Nobel Peace Prize.

Obviously, we are just a bunch of mavericks.

I must be on the young side of the age cusp, because Obama was my favorite candidate from the get-go, and I never thought of him as "black" or "African-American." I just thought he had the best ideas, the most inspirational message, and the most articulate way of delivering that message.

Plus, Obama is bi-racial. He's just as white as he is "African-American." As a white person, can't I be as proud of him being white as black people are of his being "black" or "African-American"? People react strangely when I say that, but isn't it biologically true?

More importantly, I think it's best to leave it to the MSM to dwell on Obama being "black" or "African-American." That leads down a narrow path where they then dwell on his black supporters and otherwise separate the electorate into convenient demographic groups. This is the same divisive mentality that tells us the racial makeup of juries, the only premise being the racist and insulting notion that majority black juries will vote in favor of black defendants, and whites will do the same for white defendants.

Again, it may be an age thing, but instead of dwelling on Obama's race, I'm most proud of him for his ideas, his vision, his articulation of both, and his judgment.

Thanks for being a great resource in the big debates this country has gone through. Your video clips are indispensible. I fire off your posts and clips to like-minded friends all the time, in order to fight the other side's phony talking points with well-sourced facts and statements made on camera.

I think we have to give a small part of the credit to George W. Bush.
Without the nightmare of his Administration most voters might never have relized that Barack Obama represented an opportunity to repudiate the last eight years of Republican misrule.

I am sure, as my wife is, that Sen. Clinton will be named to the Supreme Court. That is why she did not want the VP spot. She is a smart and gifted person and will be great on the Court.

I've got to say that C & L has been one of my favorite news sources the entire 20 years since this campaign began. Oh, it wasn't 20 years? God, it sure felt like 20. Hope you aren't going anywhere. We certainly aren't.

Thank you for being here for the Independents, populists, progressives, and for all of us "politically challenged" folks.
Now, put those feet up and get some rest. We'll be here, lonesome for controversy, when you return.
Goddess bless you and yours!

No, Thank YOU for keeping us informed, allowing us a place to vent, commiserate, and to be constructive...this has been my fave political blog for the past couple years. we appreciate your hard work and dedication. We love you !

And we love Obama !!!!
