Will anybody be shocked if McCain uses Rev. Wright?

I was talking to Digby a couple of weeks ago and said that McCain was saving Rev. Wright for the final weeks. That's why he didn't mention him in any of the debates. Rick Davis can frame it any way he wants to with Hugh Hewitt, The Cowardly lion.
It's all they have left. Personal attacks and character smears.

So Obama is a muslim who attended a "radical" christian church....I guess it makes sense in republicanland.

for a few seconds, and I started laughing my head off. I swear, the people who come to this site, as well as the site monitors, are smarter and more informed that the "librul" "media" :-)

Obama/Biden '08

Yeah I was wondering how the rubes will be able to hold these 2 thoughts in their heads "He's a Muslim" and "He's been under the influence of a radical Christian Pastor".

Oh nevermind I know the answer, I hear the Catholic Bigoted Christards contradicting themselves all the time over at the Knights of Columbus. There are about 6 of us over there out of 600 that aren't swallowing the
juice.

Who knows, maybe bringing up the Rev. Wright thing will nullify the Muslim baloney in some minds. Maybe the Rev. Wright baloney back in the summer has nullified peoples acceptance of the Muslim meme. At this point it can only do more harm to the McCain/GOP because they will be changing
the message once again.

Anything but the economy eh?

NO !

The man Already Lost Every single ounce of HONOR left in his frail old body ...

Right now he is running the "I do NOT care what Americans think about me after I lose" campaign ...

1)The McCain/Palin camp is desperate. They are going to do anything they can to perpetuate the Southern strategy.

2)This move shows them to be the racists that they are. Except this time, people are on to them. That BS is not going to be taken as gospel, especially when there's certain "witch doctor" floating around.

This is what you do when you run out of ideas.

From earlier this year, The Daily Show breaks down how Rev. Wright is so much worse than all of the other spiritual advisors to past presidents (tongue in cheek): http://brainrageblog.blogspot.com/2008/05/wri...

Why land your campaign quietly and gently when you can go down in a ball of flames instead???

I think McC is used to landing things in balls of flames. It's where his experience is best.

On this front McCain has too many skeletons in his own closet. I think he'll avoid Rev Wright(freedoms defense fund is already using Wright in TV ads) himself because Obama wont bring up Hagee unless provoked. McCain needs those Catholic votes and any mention of Hagee's gladly accepted endorsement wont be good for McCain.

McCain is running one of the worst campaigns; however, I don't see him shooting himself in the foot with this one. McCain doesn't have to --- the media already has done the dirty work as are the 527 groups and the Republican party.

"Jews don't have human souls" and "Hitler was good for the Jews"

Hagee's actual words from one of his books circa 1998 or so.

Some of the most hateful and disgusting comments from an American so called religious leader in the past decades.
Its hard to say which is was the worst, Hagee or Jerry 'matchbox' Falwell.

But they are all long term buddies and investors in Bushco, reich wing Republicans and WcCain.
Their hated of minorities and 'other', binds them together.

I say bring it on also. Obama can bring up Palin's rev problem. You betcha.

Exactly. The witchdoctor incident will not bode well for Palin. Remenber people, not everyone knows how to use YouTube; however, when info makes its way to the boob tube it has a much wider audience.

I absolutely agree. I hope they do "go there." McCain has some preacher problems of his own and Palin's are 10x worse than Obama's (witches, anti-semites, God in the pipeline, etc). Plus, it would open the door to the sheer hypocrisy of saying Obama's a Muslim while you're slamming his Christian preacher.

The BEST agrument for maintianing the seperation between Church and State (derrrrr)

At some point, they had to sit down and decide what they were gonna go to first... Wright or Ayers... I'd be shocked if the senior members of McCain's team spent two nanoseconds seriously contemplating not going full bore at both of these issues.

And they picked Ayers to go first, to be followed by Wright leading up to the election.

I'd challenge anybody to say that decision wasn't made because of the obvious race implications.

I don't think McCain will bring it up, I think he might allow Palin to mention it sort of from behind the curtain.

She'll mention it right before she puts a torch to the big cross, and chants the Knights creed.

i will be his last card most likely. Biden should start using
the AIP card against palin so he can put her in the defense mode
and shut her up!because she lives in one heck of a glass house.

only one reason McCain would have denied Obama is an Arab Muslim to the crazy lady at the rally and that is to make any Wright based attack marginally consistent.

was referring to Wright as Obama's long-time "mentor". I think we're going to be hearing this more and more as we get closer to the election.

I think the Wright story was beaten to death way back when. The only voters who would respond to it now are the base of the republican party and they too have beat it to death.

Of course way back when, McCain said he wasn't going to run a dirty campaign but that vow didn't last long. Just today I heard someone speaking for McCain who said the campaign wouldn't have gotten so dirty if Obama had done ten town hall meetings with McCain. Talk about beating something to death.

I will be shocked -SHOCKED, if McCain uses Rev. Wright!

THe McCain campaign is reaching desperation phase, so I expect Rev. Wright and much worse. Some morsel of dirt will be fabricated out of thin air and will get major play right before the election. This will be done on the last weekend, when there is scant time to debunk.

In preparation, I would like to see all blogs go into full time monitor status, prepared to research and debunk. There will be very little time.

This is no time to be complacent.

???

Reaching?

Is this it??? No Osama Binladen's head in a plastic bag (disregard the freezer burn)??? I'm disapointed.

I am going to early vote tomorrow and then come home and take a bath. I am not young and this is the nastiest campaign by the Republicans that I remember.
I was hoping that McCain might run the last 2 weeks of the campaign the way he would want his grandchildren to remember him. But, maybe not.

The sad thing is that I truly believe that he, along with the GOP, is going to take us all down with him because he was "denied" the Presidency. I doubt he even has the decorum to contempate a concession with honor.

I have to wait until nov. 4 to vote. Sure I could absentee, but that's no fun. I live in a very Republican district of PA and see the same Republican idiots at every election trying to shove their campaign pamphlets at me outside the polling station. In the past I have turned my head and walked past, This time I will point at them and laugh loudly.

I suggest you all do the same.

Don't go to McCain Palin Rallys and disrupt it by shouting Obama! and getting escorted out, Just Laugh out loud, go with your friends and spread out amongst the crowd.
The loudest Gaffaws you can muster. Laughter is infectious, you just might start a cascade.

Sarah Palin is a Joke of the highest order and needs to be laughed at.
She is Bush's only hope to save himself from being the worst President of the USA.

Palin may say something like, I know John doesn't want to talk about Rev Wright but the voters do. They want to know why he feels god should damn America. They want to know why Obama was a member of that church for twenty years and listened to these anti America words.

Anti Ameica and pro America are the catch words for this week from the McCain supporters.

Socialism is the word of the week. I think "anti Americanism" was shown to be a hot potato when that idiot from Minnesota tried it out last Friday.

You are more than welcome to take her in where ever, as long as its not Minnesota.

Hmm, I think Reverend Wright's words may have been prophetic. "McCain, the chickens are coming home to roost."
After he brings up the Rev.Wright thing, I'm sure he'll say "Well, I wouldn't have brought it up if Obama had apologized for Rep. John Lewis". This man has no shame.

Americans do have a slight knowledge of what happened 40 years ago about the civil rights movement, and any hovering christian voter has most likely heard similar or far worse in their nice safe white midwestern churches.
Ranting and raging against injustice has always been popular with clergy of all denominations, so prob an own goal by the Repugs to push Wright too much.

A quick quiz with no answer and no prizes...

Question:

How many white Americans have damned Chimpy and Bushco and Wall Street for gutting their 401Ks and their savings, destroying their jobs etc. ?

Answer:

More than we can possibly imagine.

Reverend Wright is a thing of the past. McCain's dementia is current and ongoing.

Sherrill,

Totally agree.

Or if Obama had agreed to ten town hall meetings.

You know I'm getting really tired of the MSM reporting on what Palin says. How about Palin giving a press conference and stop hiding from the media.

She sure is a lot of shit talk when there aren't any follow up questions.

They'll do whatever it takes to win, but if they do win, then they'll realize that it will be impossible to lead when you have effectively demonized one-half of your followers.

Palin gets to play as VP for a while, and then WcCain gets his state funeral as the heroic POTUS sadly taken from us before his time.
Politicians and lying pundits will sob and cry and say what a wonderful leader and war hero he was, it will be rather sickening.
Then the Palin xtian fundie reich begins.

I always thought he would bring it up again at the very end because it died down relatively rapidly in comparison to the other dirty tactics. I'm sure he will bring it up again as he and his are great at taking everything and anything out of context. Joe the Plumber is a great example, the one who would actually get a tax-cut, the one who has a hard time paying taxes anyway...the one who is related to one of the Keating Five. (Why does no one mention this?)

What more potent temptation than to play that audio over and over again with Wright supposedly saying 'God*$&#%#% America?' You know they will fan that flame for all it's worth.

That is unless he finds a successful way to invade Iran through another NATO wannabe....

I believe that its a bit late in the game to pull out the Reverend it'll be sound too much like Ayers to the uninformed voter. Instead I believe they will remain focused on the Socialist slant that they have started up in the last few days and pray pray pray for the Bush Administration to pull a foreign type attack on America out of their hats. The Powell endorsment may make that a mute point so in closing there's not much McCain can do to win this thing but I can't rest until after the election and Obama is officially the Commander in Chief.

My ulcer is eating it's way to my spine.

'God*$&#%#% America?'. That's what has happened since the pubs have had the office.

It is too late to bring out Wright. The people who have not made up their minds are not going to be swayed by Wright. Nobody is going to change their mind to vote for McShame because of Wright. People may change their mind and vote against McShame because of Wright though. They will see it for want it is. Desperate. Doesn't everybody already know about Wright anyway?

"The people who have not made up their minds are not going to be swayed by Wright."

While that's true, it doesn't mean bringing Wright up again won't benefit McCain in terms of shifting the media narrative off anything other than Wright. You kill off even one day of news cycle with him, that's one less day where people are talking about Palin's latest idiotic statment, McCain's latest blatent lie, etc.

folks, who these people are. They are pondscum Repugs. They will do ANYTHING to stay in power. Never say never when it comes to Thugs. Any other way of thinking is to forget who we are dealing with.

Over here in Limeyland, BBC Newsnight which is a paragon of virtue and impartiality compared to what I have been watching televised in the US has called it for Obama. Thats what happens when you look from afar with untinted spectacles.

We also had the pleasure of the company of Sen McCains former (read fired) Deputy Campaign manager who is still proselytizing for McCain. The funniest moment of his interview with the peerless Jeremy Paxman was when he said that 'The US is inherently right-centrist, and Obama is trying to take it lefterly'.

I kid you fu*cking not! Lefterly. Its a new direction for the US.

That guy is a complete twit. Makes us look real good over there.

loverly

Republicans I speak to (and am married to) truly believe that the problem with America is that it has moved to far to the left.

We all know better here, now don't we.

I watch BBC news every night. My spouse, who is right of center, also watches. We lost it on our PBS station and we were devastated, thinking we had lost it for good. However, we found it again on BBC America. If not for BBC and C-SPAN we would have gone crazy long ago. Thank God for BBC.

most of them believe in a bearded white guy in the sky who instructs hate. So,go figure.

Not be over until Obama takes The oath of Office.

There is no such thing as a fair, honorable fight when it comes to the GOP.

I'm thinkin that the McCan't campaign is seein the writin on the wall and are gettin in the mind set that they are goin to lose. It is the nut job base we have to worry about now. One of those freaks could do anything. You know what I'm talking about. Oh, they will keep trottin out Palin but it doesn't matter any more. All we have to do is make sure everybody votes. That has to be the the most important thing now.

You guys are quite unjustifiably paranoid.

Go.Away.

and experience what we have been through, then try say the same thing with a straight face.
The BBC filters out a lot of the small details of what really happens here.

Unfortunately, we live in a Banana Republic. It is true. No paranoid fears, just rational thought unfiltered by denial.

we're well beyond shockable at this point.

Nothing shocks Me,anymore.

does he want the Republicans to lose by a landslide ?
Is this his late cold revenge for 2000 !

Then again they fielded almost a complete crop of losers in their primaries, then picked the senile dying one.

McCain never met an issue he can't flip-flop on.

Chris Wallace's face, when he eeked out McCain's subconscious thoughts into the material world, was a picture. I should think he had a something approaching a condescending smirk when McCain gave his final answer, about retiring back to Arizona.

McCain has effectively thrown in the towel. People will vote. The game is over. It's just a matter of watching the GOP implode, and watch the ungallant retreat of McCain supporters as they distant themselves from the campaign and position themselves for the new regime. Strangely captivating.

That was the plan all along. Think about it. Why would ANYONE choose Palin for ANYTHING? They not only know they are going to lose, but, want Obama elected. Anyone wonder why besides people from other countries?

in the most respectful way,C.C.,but you are smoking fairy dust- or being very snarky.

LOL..that was snarky UncleDave....gotta play into this trollathon.

The repubs know that they are going to lose big-time.

They most certainly do not want Obama elected and they're willing to do anything to prevent it from happening.

Hate and smears are all they have left at this point.

You forget the sitting president who has powers unprecidented in any other. 'They' have plenty left to prevent the will of the people.

I agree with you.

Lots of bad things can happen between now and November 4th.

You mean Hospital Corpsman Third Class Wright? Am I the only one who retches at the thought of calling a former Marine and Navy Corpsman, who has been trusted to care for a President of the United States, a traitor? When you sign up for the Marine Corp, you sign a contract - you are stating that you are willing to die for your country. Same with the Navy. For someone to be honerably discharged from the military, their patriotism is pretty much not in question. To call Jeremiah Wright a traitor because of some things he says in a sermon, is to dismiss the service and patriotism of every soldier who has selflessly signed up and honerably fulfilled their service to this country.

They smeared Kerry, Assorted anti war liberals in 02/03, NY wives and mothers of 9/11 victims, Cindy Sheenan, and all the families of the Afghan/Iraq war dead.

As a liberal I might disagree and argue with right wingers, might even think they are retarded, but never call them traitor for legitimate viewpoints on subjects.

That was and is how low the Repugs sunk, Billo, Coulter, Hannity, Malkin, Falwell, Hagee, Haggard, Backmann, Kilmeade, are the mouthpieces of hell and the irrational.

They are nazis pure and simple.

(illegal invasion) started my brother called anyone against it a traitor. I haven't spoken to him since. These things scar lives. It's not a game.

And Pat Robertson called for the assassination of Hugo Chavez.

I think Robertson is worse.

I would be shocked if he didn't!

Rick Davis is basically warning us of what is to come during the last week of the campaign.

If McCain's tactics (approved by the MSM) win the White house then we just went backwards fifty plus years as far as civil rights are concerned. I think he will bring up the Rev indirectly. They already have the KKK retards rockin. The MSM sure does want him to.
Wolf can't wait!?

I won't be shocked, but I hope McCain won't be shocked when it backfires on them.

The Wright "controversy" has already played itself out once. Did the McCain campaign not notice how playing the Ayers card caused a backlash among voters who prefer to hear about the issues?

If he thinks that Obama's past relationships "need to be talked about", well then he should talk about them. But until he has something like a smoking gun to show us, almost nobody is buying it except for his supporters.

Sure, their hardcore fans will love it, at their rallies. But I predict the undecideds are going to flatly reject it as another empty ploy.

Bring it on, McCain. It only serves to highlight what a desperate loser you have become.

This is am awesome Sarah Palin video, check it outt!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1exiyBYnJ00

If McCain starts in on Rev Wright it is going to seal the deal for Obama. People are beyond tired of McCain's negativity in this campaign. His poll numbers will take a dive off a cliff.

If anyone is interested, Here is Mike Wallace in the fifties,
great interview, This is how his son got a job on Fox...lol.

Watch at 4:00 of this clip...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFbCGT_AWBI&fe...

McCain will use Rev. Wright and any wedge issue (i.e. gay marriage and abortion) to try to win this election (that's all he has left). I have been getting e-mails from extended family basically stating that Obama is in favor of retroactive abortion. Seriously. People are really bringing out the ugly in this election cycle. I'm not surprised by anything that is thrown out by the McCain/Palin campaign. In all honesty, I'm waiting for the calls of reverse racism by Rush et. al. I just hope after Nov. 4th the inane vitriol that is being stoked by the Republican party will simmer down.

Let this be a lesson to future Americans, never allow a party that is based on hate and fear to gain any shred of power.

NEW YORK TIMES POLL, May 5, 2008
(The tail end of Rev. Wright's flash-in-the-pan period in the news.)

Do you approve the way Obama has handled the Wright situation?
Approve: 60%
Don't Approve: 23%

Will the Wright issue matter in how you vote?
Yes: 73%
No: 24%
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/05/us/politics...

Those 23% - 24% numbers conveniently match the number of clueless, mouth-breathing, hillbilly freaks who still inexplicably "approve" of George Jr's pathetic performance. So these ignorant rednecks would never vote for Obama anyway. As always, McSame picks a loser of a non-issue to run up his soiled, tattered flag, a tactic that will succeed in rallying only his base and no one else. I'm really beginning to dislike McBush, that ancient, pasty-faced, bitter shell of a man.

I'm fully convinced that John McCain will bring up Rev. Wright. He's a man that's desperate and we're seeing his true character. The media with Anderson Cooper leading the charge has been bringing his name up every opportunity they can. Anderson Cooper even showed a clip tonight when he should have been showing the Colin Powell endorsement. America is not blind nor the world. The world is seeing the racist behavior that the media and this campaign is displaying.

McCain said Rev Wright was strictly off limits but now it seems McCain will inject Rev Wright into his campaign. Shocking that McCain would flip-flop on one of his core principles and beliefs to slander and pander to get a vote. Its so out of character coming from guy with no character. Yeah right.

Hard to believe McCain would pick another loser as an attack line. It never worked in the primary and it won’t work now. Even though this story has already been told and played out the MSM will glob onto to it and milk it for all its worth which is nothing. The msm loves Rev Wright its great for ratings.

I am not defending Rev Wright but can anyone tell besides the 30 seconds sound bite we saw looped and played incessantly where are the other outrageous sermons from this guy.

Hello Rev Hagee the Palin’s witch doctor pal

Apparently, McCain's strategists were asleep while the "kitchen sink" tactics were backfiring on Hillary.

Whoops -- for the record, got my NY Times poll numbers backwards...

Will the Wright issue matter in how you vote?
Yes: 24%
No: 73%

Well, McCain tied Obama to MRs Annenburg. The strong conservative that placed Obama on her education reform board.

Obama is tied to Colin Powell's endorsement.

So will McCain's camp return to Rev Wright? Sure.

At this point and the rest of the election. We will see McCain/Palin sell out America for the rest of this election.

Divide what can be divided. Those Americans that divide at the McCain/Palin call are perhaps the weakest Americans that endulge themselves to o much in their imaginary patriotism over others.

when are the democrats are going to mudsling palin her assosiation
with the aip?its about time they do because she live in a glass
house too!

I think there's a strong, short reply that the obama people, or a 527, could make if McCain brings up Wright -- Hagee.

Remember, McCain called Hagee his spiritual advisor and said that the country should be listening to Hagee. Not only that, McCain pursued his endorsement for about a year.

And that Hagee said that Katrina was God's punishment for New Orleans planning to have a Gay Pride Parade.

Thus this short, snappy comeback:

Look, Senator McCain, do you really want to talk about Rev Wright? You sought and welcomed -- and extolled -- a man that says God killed 1000 people to stop a Gay Pride Parade."
