Mary Travers of the folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary, passed away yesterday in Connecticut. Travers's smooth voice amplified the protest songs of the early 1960s and helped them reach a much wider audience than they had previously. The musical revolution that would come later in that decade would be hard to imagine without Peter, Paul and Mary's groundwork, and of course the sound of those three singing together (still one of the greatest vocal combinations ever to be scratched into wax) is really centered around the way Peter Yarrow and Paul Stookey's voices supported hers.

A true legend, and a class act 'til the end.
