I'm listening to the new Silversun Pickups album "Swoon", which hit stores this morning, courtesy of a colleague of mine who bought it the second it came out. Good move, guy.

In the past, I've been a little iffy on SP both because I think it's cheesy to be named after a convenience store in my neighborhood (they are) and 'cause I've often written them off as a second rate Smashing Pumpkins. Having the same initials and a girl bass player aren't helping there either. Nevertheless, it's really all the Corgan endeavors of late that have sounded like a second rate Pumpkins, and many fans only wish he'd churn out a record like Brian Aubert and his eastside LA cohorts have this week.

Silversun Pickups, along with Bob Mould, Mastodon, The Cure, Paul McCartney, F*cked Up, Morrissey, and a million other great bands are playing at Coachella this weekend, which sadly your hermit-ish DJ will not be attending.
