Using more traditional methods, the actual rate is about 10% higher than reported by the media/government (is there a difference?) What? The government lies?
from John Williams, Shadowstats.com.
5 minute clip from C-Span.
Some of you may have already read about the Army recalling16,000 pieces of armor, according to the latest Pentagon IG’s audit. But, speaking as a former QC inspector, I can tell you why this report is even more disturbing than even Time magazine or its readers realizes.

Blackwater could be out in 72 hours!
Heard on "wait wait don't tell me"! I say take them up on the offer,
I'd rather have them over there, than over here.
Especially with the economy going into the crapper. They will have lots of opportunity to quell domestic disturbances here if the French model of protest is (inevitably) used here.
And we've already seen how thugish our police forces can be, imagine how the Blackwater Mercs will be with their combat training and urban warfare experience, and modern military hardware.
I'd rather not have them at all. Let them pull out of Iraq then the American people will get a real accounting of the number of "troops" we have fighting in Iraq.
hearing on rachel maddow, that some blackwater employees will be able to go to work for 2 other "security" firms over there...
at least the ones who are not already in trouble or facing charges...
joins the growing chorus of people calling for a new investigation into the attacks on 9-11
Video of an exchange at a Carter book signing event:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gO2UGVp--ak
That video of Carter doesn't show him committing to joining your group. It shows a guy that spit out a question out of the blue at someone and got a non-committal get out of my face response. And honestly you can't expect someone like Jimmy Carter to answer an out of the blue out of context question!
it is what it is. He does say he would support a new investigation.
it is remarkably different that what Clinton has said previous "How dare you" comes to mind.
The question posed to Carter was prefaced, it was repeated, and the President answered it in the affirmative.
Do you also think he would have been just as "surprised" at a Gaza/Israel question or any other international issue?
It has also been a few days since this footage came out, I have yet to see an official "distancing" comment come out of the Carter camp.
http://nafeez.blogspot.com/2009/01/obama-regi...
The arrival of the Obama administration will not fundamentally alter the course of military expansion accelerated during the Bush era. The origins of these policies do not lie uniquely in neoconservative ideology. While the election of President Obama may offer new opportunities for progressive forces to delimit the damage, their space for movement will ultimately be constrained by deep-seated structural pressures that will attempt to exploit Obama to rehabilitate American imperial hegemony, rather than transform it.
Indeed, the radicalization of Anglo-American political ideology represented by the rise of neoconservative principles and the militarization processes of the 'War on Terror', constituted a strategic response to global systemic crises supported by the American business classes. The same classes, recognizing the extent to which the Bush era has discredited this response, have rallied around Obama. Therefore, as global crises intensify, this militarization response is likely to undergo further radicalization, rather than a meaningful change in course. The key differences will be in language and method, not substance.
eye-opening article continues at site above.
i really miss the saturday cartoons... what happened to that?
The Prime Minister of Turkey was right. The Israeli Rep had 24 minutes to express his opinions and point of view about what had taken place in the Gaza, the Turkish Prime Minister had 14 minutes to express his views.

What was up with David Ignatius who was the moderator. He should have known better.
Although we all know this is par for the course in the U.S. media. The Israeli perspective gets 99% of the air time while the Palestinian perspective gets 1% of the time. If this issue is touched by the MSM at all. Certainly not by most not even touched by the so called progressive Rachel Maddow and Keith Olberman
Well we all know who runs the mainstream media...its the Palestinians.
my coffee mug was down when I read this. Saved me a keyboard.
Think the republicans are looking for a "Steele - Palin" ticket in 2012!!
The news media has certainly giving both a h... of a lot of news coverage...
People in foreign countries know more about them, then there own leaders.
Why do you believe they are attacking Obama before he took office and now saying the economy will fail with his policies..... It is failing now and at least through 2009 or 2010 because of Bush and his criminal no law administration.....
We know this economic destruction of Bush and his republican controlled administration will be blamed on Obama.
Bush's economical destruction is no longer being attacked to Bush , but Obama.. Can you imagine what will be said by the corporate-republican news media as time goes on..
Rush and "ALL" of the republicans have stated publicly , that they are going to attack Obama and want him to fail.. What would the news media stated about anyone that would make this statement about Bush in 2001....
To Republicans it is not the people and the U.S. they are concern about , but corporations and their own wealth...
None
Kind of an "I don't know", "I don't care" pairing!
Katy wanted to know about the Saturday Cartoons, which have been a regular feature of the Roundup. Bob Gieger, the blogger who assembled those great posts, is on hiatus until next month.
