President Obama essentially threatens the US to pass his stimulus, ahem, rescue packages, or the US will have an economic catastrophe.

Where have I heard this sales pitch before?

This isn't big time to anyone but me, but in just about three hours I will get my new dog. I haven't had a dog in almost a year and now finally it looks like I will have one. He's a rescue dog and he's only two years old. He's a sweet looking little Yorkie. I've never seen him in person, only his photo. His foster mom is bringing him at two this afternoon. This has been about as difficult as adopting a child, but I think it's going to be worth it.

Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.

Maybe you could name your new pup Barry!

We actually considered that name but I chose Martini instead.

It was distressing to read some of the articles and learn for sure that the Military-Corporate Complex is really getting out of hand.

Gen. Zinni appears to be just an adolescent whiner and is only lamenting the fact that he won't be further involved in usurping the spoils of war in Iraq. But, the really disturbing aspects of these first few weeks of Obama's presidency is the apparent bullying by the military over Iraq. Petraeus is just a "General" - Obama is the Commander-in-Chief. It certainly appears that these generals are more interested in protecting their turf and setting Obama up for a fall in Iraq, than in performing their duties according to their oaths.

We need to pay careful attention to the discourse surrounding the withdrawal from Iraq, especially the propaganda from the military, and be ready to support Obama. I am also concerned about the power the military may exert here at home when this economic crisis worsens. Stay tuned....

Petraeus must have spent some time in Somalia. Looks like he picked up a few pointers from some of the warloards there.

Sorry to say it but we are going to have to wait until the midterms so we can acquire a gridlock proof majority to stop republic obstructionism.
Republikuds are much more concerned with power than they are with actually helping the USA recover. Rush Limbaugh speaks for the majority of his party when he says he wants Obama to fail.

Republikuds have made it clear that they will not accept any stimulus package unless it includes extensions of Bush's tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans and that is absolutely NOT acceptable. Rather than cave in, Obama should call Harry Reid, tell him to seat Al Franken, push for a vote on the stimulus package as it stands and just hope for the best.
I hate to say it, but if Ted Kennedy cannot vote, then he should consider resigning so Deval Patrick can appoint his replacement already. That may sound cold but we are in the middle of an economic emergerncy and the republikud party is absolutely determined to let it get as bad as possible so they can use it against democrats in the upcoming elections.

...it seems absolutely no one involved in politics, certainly not in the Congress, is concerned about anything except the next damn election! They'll do and vote for anything as long as it keeps them on the gravy train >> What a disgusting bunch of low-life scum
they are!

This is a tale of health care and a working artist. My friend Tony is a neon wizard, has been for over 30 years. Last fall he was moving some stuff in his shop, when a steel table base fell over, and nearly cut off the tips of 2 of his fingers on his left hand.

The RIAA's champion, Donald Verrilli has been appointed as associate deputy attorney general. here's a complete roundup of all the RIAA and BSA-linked lawyers comfortably seated at top posts at the Department of Justice by the new government. To be expected, since VP Joe Biden is well known for pushing the copyright warmongers agenda in Washington. Just in case you don't know, Verrilli is the nice man who sued the pants off Jammie Thomas.

sigh.

Obama is a vast improvement, but remember who he actually represents...

Do you really expect us to go through all of those links? Attorneys are supposed to represent their clients aren't they? What is your point?

tweakerbelle's picture

My point is, one of the sleezier lawyers that has enthusiastically represented an Association that operates like a Criminal Organisation is now at one of the highest levels of influence in the judicial section of the executive branch and will be advising the president on matters of datasharing. It a Fox guarding the henhouse effect. That you are too lazy to read the links and too ignorant to bother thinking it through indicates why the few intelligent republicans there are laugh at stupid democrats like you.

Obama is NOT serving YOUR interest. He serves the interests of Capital, not Labour.

Nothing to worry about. I'm sure Panetta will keep the country, I mean hyper-rich elite and bankers, safe.

Carlos Slim & the 'Narco-Politicos'

Carlos Slim, the Mexican billionaire whose $250 million cash infusion bailed the New York Times out of a tight cash crunch last week, has long-standing business ties with wealthy Mexican businessmen suspected of involvement in Mexico's so-called “Cartel of the Southeast,” the drug trafficking organization (DTO) based in Cancun which came to light two years ago with the crash on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula of an American-registered (N987SA) Gulfstream jet carrying nearly four tons of cocaine.
A long-time lieutenant of Carlos Slim's, Fernando Chico Pardo, left Slim's employ to take over ASUR, a publicly-traded corporation which observers accuse of moving large quantities of cocaine through Cancun International Airport, which the company runs and manages.
ASUR controls a total of a dozen Mexican airports, and exemplifies the “corporatization” which has transformed the drug trade in the same process of vertical integration and market consolidation which has left, in other large industries, like automobiles, a handful of global multinational players dominating market share worldwide.
Slim's big investment represents an encroachment into the ownership of an icon of American democracy of a man, and a massive fortune, whose provenance have gone largely unexamined. But on the topic of Slim's shady dealings, all eyes seem to be curiously averted. However it seems highly doubtful the Times' ownership is unaware of them.
Snip
Carlos Slim's stake is a danger to the New York Times," said the Seattle Times in a scathing editorial. While calling it "an ominous move," the editorial neglected to mention any of Slim's more unsavory connections. American newspapers don't mention "narco-politicos." It is something approaching a taboo.

snip ....there is much more and it has made me wonder (again) why we hear so much of the "wrong stuff" so much of the time.

"Suspects arrested in cases as minor as shoplifting would have to give a DNA sample before they are even charged with a crime if a controversial proposal is approved by the Legislature. "It is good technology. It solves crimes," claims Don Pierce, executive director of the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs. Under the bill, authorities would supposedly destroy samples and DNA profiles from people who weren't charged, were found not guilty or whose convictions were overturned. Others believe that this is just another step in the process to build a national DNA database with everyone in it."
