The Palm Beach Post endorsed Obama this weekend. Not a real surprise but glad to see it in print.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
The Chicago Tribune endorses Obama - the first time in the paper's 161 year history to endorse a Democrat.
Salt Lake City (very red state) endorsed Obama and scolded McCain for his choice of VP, (they, of course, wanted Romney)
Houston (with the above endorsed Bush in 04) endorsed Obama and thought that Kay Bailey Hutchison, or someone with more experience, would have been a better VP choice.
Top reasons for not selecting McCain: 1) Political stunts, including the selection of Palin, the postponement of his campaign and running a negative campaign. 2) Palin herself.
Exercise your rights!! http://www.filthyrichmond.com/2008/06/exercis...
The Right has already (surprise) begun discrediting Powell:
- he's a RINO (a Republican in name only
- it is payback time for the Bush administration and the Iraq War
- he's black endorsing black
I hope Powell will continue to allow himself to be available for interviews to fight the smears.
The first place I heard about Mark Jacoby was on Fox News today. Look outside and see if you see any pigs flying around.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
howzit?
I saw the elephant pic you posted on the last thread. Is that you and where was the picture taken? Like I said in my last comment in that thread, I hope it is you because that's exactly the way I picture you.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
Yep, it's me with short hair. I had it fairly short while working at the Embassy. The Pic is in Kanchanburi (close to the River Kwai)
Now I am going to have that whistle tune from the Bridge over the River Kwai movie bouncing around in my head all day. lol
Will they say "its liberal California trying to take the focus off of ACORN?
Yeeeaaaa, first to get popped for REAL fraud is a R type.

Block the Vote
Will the GOP's campaign to deter new voters and discard Democratic ballots determine the next president?
These days, the old west rail hub of Las Vegas, New Mexico, is little more than a dusty economic dead zone amid a boneyard of bare mesas. In national elections, the town overwhelmingly votes Democratic: More than 80 percent of all residents are Hispanic, and one in four lives below the poverty line. On February 5th, the day of the Super Tuesday caucus, a school-bus driver named Paul Maez arrived at his local polling station to cast his ballot. To his surprise, Maez found that his name had vanished from the list of registered voters, thanks to a statewide effort to deter fraudulent voting. For Maez, the shock was especially acute: He is the supervisor of elections in Las Vegas.

Friends don’t ask friends to vote on Provisional Ballots!
Palin's SNL blow-out was just her trying to distract the public from this shocking discovery:
http://www.weeklyworldnews.com/alien-alert/pa...
Racy photos have emerged of Sarah Palin posing with alien beer during her beauty queen days. A young Palin is clearly seen in an advertisement for Old Clandathuu’s Best lager.
Not.
Could this woman be more trailer trashy.
She gives trailer trashy a bad name. Her appearance on SNL was pathetic. The only reason I happened to see it was because I was sick and couldn't sleep. Why would she want to go there and sit and listen while they trashed her butt. She has to be a total idiot.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
Apparently, from what I had read on Saturday afternoon, Palin didn't have a script and thought she was playing herself or Tina Fey.
Palin, being the ego that she is, probably thought that they love her and she was going to be the star of the show.
Remember, she watches the parodies with the sound off.
Don't they do a rehearsal? If she didn't know what she was going to do, she should have. Basically she did nothing but read about three lines from cue cards.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
"Basically she did nothing but read about three lines from cue cards."
Isn't that all she does as a VP candidate. John Cleese, in an interview at his home in Santa Barbara, said she sounds like she doesn't quite comprehend what she's memorize or has read.
Funny, one of McCain's new lines in his stump speech is that a president needs to be ready on day one and he won't have time to study up on the issues. Doesn't he see the irony in this as Sarah stands by his side?
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.

With all of this Arab and Muslim and Terrorist smearing that the McCain campaign and been waist deep in, I'm glad someone pointed out how this is being transmitted to the Arab world. I've been concerned about that myself, but obviously our Republican presidential candidate couldn't be bothered about diplomacy at a time like this.

Did you guys see the comments on "Submitted to a Candid World"?? Ames (the site moderator) is trying to rationalize with the Republicans trash in the comments but seriously, there is NO RATIONALIZING with them anymore.
the facts are becoming more and more clear every day: right wing America wants left wing America DEAD. A revolution is coming but it's not the liberals who are going to bring it.
Like Obama says, we won't throw the first punch, but we will throw the last one.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
Spike the punch.

I read that Obama received a "racist reception" at a BBQ joint in NC. Some nutter started yelling "Socialist, socialist, socialist". Others told her to stop. Obama, being Obama, went over to introduce himself and she wouldn't shake his hand. Others were not so harsh.
Beautiful! By offering to shake her hand and her refusing, she placed the word asshole over her head for all to see. Obama isn't new to being a black man and he knows how to handle jerks when he meets them.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
I thought the same thing, but still felt bad for him. However, I try to remember that 100k people showed up in St. Louis and another 75k in Kansas City.
OT, but I wanted to thank you for encouraging people to register. It is SOOOOOO much better posting this way.
It was my pleasure on the registering dealie.
Obama is a class act. I'm sure he expects to run into jerks along the way. He just kills them with kindness and moves on.

Yes, Newspaper Endorsements Matter -- Here is 'Proof'
http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/...
I read this on Friday. I was going to post this here earlier but got sidetracked with the Judith Miller story.
In 2004, E&P gave electoral votes to newspapers, based on circulation and were able to fairly accurately predict the outcome of the states' elections. Obama leads 3-1 with 10 mil to 2.5 mil in circulation.
Obama should take about $20M of that newfound money, go to the battleground states and hire a Robocall company to inundate the voters with more calls. Here's my message:
"Hi. I'm calling on behalf of John McCain. Do you know Barack Obama? Have you heard of him? Would you think more or less of Barack Obama if you knew he was in the Senate? This November 4th, please vote."
send them out over and over and over and over until people are soooo sick of John McCain that they vote Obama.

That is what I've been trying to say over the past few years. John is correct, America can be fixed in the World View by electing Obama, it will be a start and the beginning of a long hard job.
We HAVE to get Obama Elected.

I called in to check this morning to see if I was still registered and lo and behold I apparently had moved and changed my party affiliation to republican. It's been fixed but I sure would like to know who the hell fucked with it.
We could certainly slow the aging process down if it had to work its way through Congress.

I'm just so glad you checked it before you went to vote on Nov. 4. God what a nightmare that would have been.

probably the same company who claimed I had accepted a collect call on their service from Mesa, AZ, even though I don't even have a phone plugged into that line, don't know anyone from AZ and wasn't even at home that week.
Early Voting And Absentee Balloting Favors Obama -- In Multiple Bush States
By Greg Sargent - October 20, 2008, 10:28AM
The Associated Press has a good rundown on early voting and requests for absentee balloting in various key battlegrounds:
* Dems lead in Iowa, with Dems asking for roughly 60,000 more ballots than Repubicans as of last Wednesday.
* Dems lead in Ohio, with about 35,000 more Dems requesting absentee ballots than Republicans as of last week.
* Dems lead in North Carolina early voting, with some 62% of the more than 200,000 who voted last Thursday and Friday being registered Democrats, while only 22% were registered Republicans.
* In Georgia, many of the more than 540,000 ballots that were cast as of Wednesday were in Dem strongholds of metropolitan Atlanta, and blacks accounted for 37% of them.
* In Florida, GOPers hold an edge in absentee balloting, with 220,000 more Republicans requesting absentee ballots than Dems.
All of those states went for Bush in 2004, and if McCain doesn't win them all the map becomes very difficult for him.

Afghanistan
Afghan NGOs are teaching human rights and Islamic law along with calls to end the war with a national peace jirga.
Kabul, Afghanistan - In a musty room near the edge of town, a group of bearded men sit on the floor and heatedly discuss strategy. The men are in the planning stages of an event that they hope will impact Afghan politics - a peace jirga, or assembly, that will agitate for the end of the war between the Taliban and Afghan government by asking the two sides to come to a settlement.
