So KKKarl testifies today?

Wake me up when he is indicted. Or better yet, when he is convicted.

Thanks - Rip Van Winkle

That they don't make Rove take an oath to swear to tell the truth.

Anybody wanna bet?

The only reason he's there is because a deal was made that he could be questioned without being sworn in.

Can't wait to find out about this one.

You all think this isn't planned but it totally is.

See, Obama has tricked the CIA into saying Pelosi knew about the torture and Pelosi is going all "nuh-uh no you dint" and stuff so the Republicans will think there is some cheese to be had!

Then the Republicans will start braying about investigations and how torture is bad and stuff and go for the cheese and then wily ole Obama will jump out and go "OH YOU WANT INVESTIGATIONS OK I WILL BE BIPARTISAN AND START THEM JUST FOR YOU, YOU SPECIAL LITTLE FLOWERS!"

And then him and Biden will look at each other for a beat and then both will go A-BWAHAHAHA A BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

I really hope there is more investigation into the CIA briefings and Congress. If the information is misleading, I tend to think it is the result of the President and Vice President at the time because they are the ones who clear the information before Congress sees it.

The classified NIE report the Bush administration used as its justification to go to war was presented to the Senate Intelligence Committee on October 1, 2002 called "Iraq's Continuing Programs for Weapons of Mass Destruction." This is NOT the same NIE that was released to the American people or the rest of Congress. The unclassified NIE report released on October 4, 2002 titled "Iraq's Weapons of Mass Destruction Programs", omitted vigorous dissenting opinions on whether there was conclusive evidence of Weapons of Mass Destruction.

In today's New York Times, there was a letter from mika brezinski defending joe scab from a charge from Gov. Patterson, in a NYT article, decrying him as a "leader in the republican attack squad."

Here's the letter I sent in response, which will likely not be published:
_______________________________________________________________________

This was without a doubt the most self-serving letter I've ever seen on any opinion page. Mika Brezinkski claims that Joe Scarborough is equally tough to everyone, but cannot cite anything to back that comment up. In the two examples she did provide, she wrote, "Joe was one of the first TV reporters to criticize the Bush White House during Hurricane Katrina...," but apparently not the first. He was merely jumping on the bandwagon. Additionally the word criticize seems more apropos for an opinion writer, not a journalist who's expected to report the news not be the news. Mika than says, "...Joe urges his party to be more moderate in temperment and more accepting from dissent from leaders like former Secretary of State Colin L Powell." One can note that she did not say that about dissent from the population at large, or leaders of any political party, just one of the then Republican administration. This seems to show an authoritarian inclination.

Seeing that Mika Brezinski serves as an anemic co-host with Joe Scarborough, rarely contradicting him, rarely adding anything of her own to the conversations to the point where one wonders just what her function is for the show, other than lending her father's name, her letter just shows that she not only knows which side of her toast the butter is on, she's buttering it herself.

Gil's last priority was marijuana in Seattle. IIRC, his kid had some drug probs. The chief Kerlikowski replaced in 2000 or so is for legalising ALL drugs, and he was a cop for over 30 years. Said what we all know, drug busts are a waste of time and resources.

It would be nice if he were the last Drug 'Czar'

Emptywheel's been doing absolutely superb work on this beat, and the other torture links are great.

On Lieberman - he still believes waterboarding isn't torture, which he believed, ignorantly, a year or two ago. After participating in the Senate report on prisoner abuses, he really should know better. So is he lazy, stupid, a liar, evil or is this a cognitive dissonance on his part to avoid coming to the inevitable conclusions?
