The Naked Capitalism article is like another dagger in the heart of democracy...

Senate Democrats on Thursday pushed through a sweeping climate change bill, maneuvering an end-run around opposition Republicans who continued their boycott of deliberations.
Did you really expect Republicans to contribute?? The con-servative war on science is an epic fail in the 21st century... Reality has never met the GOP...

Obama's good war goes bad - Bernd Debusmann - http://blogs.reuters.com/great-debate/2009/11...
So much for an exercise in democracy President Barack Obama had used as his rationale for escalating the war a few months after he took office. “I did order 21,000 additional troops there to make sure that we could secure the election, because I thought that was important.” It was. It showed that the United States and its NATO allies are fighting on the side of a corrupt and discredited government in a war, now in its ninth year, for which, according to Defense Secretary Robert Gates, there can be no purely military solution.

The Life and Death of Great American Cities - http://www.progressivebookclub.com/blog/2009/...
Is New York the greenest city in America? Urban planner Jane Jacobs famously talked about population density as the driver of vibrant communities in cities. In this video, David Owen connects Jacob's views on urban planning and community sound environmental planning and sustainable living.

Last Exit From Afghanistan - http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/opinon/2...
"....And now is his best-ever chance to pull out, because the political train wreck in Kabul gives him an ideal opportunity to renege on his foolish promises to pursue the war in Afghanistan until victory. If he misses this opportunity, he may never get another, for it will inevitably and inexorably become ``his" war, and the Americans who are killed there from now on will have died on his orders. Once that kind of burden descends on a politician, it becomes almost impossible for him to change course and admit that those deaths were futile. In that case, the Afghanistan war will eventually destroy him."

Most U.S. youths unfit to serve, data show - http://www.armytimes.com/news/2009/11/militar...
U.S. military-age youth are increasingly unfit to serve — mostly because they’re in such lousy shape. According to the latest Pentagon figures, a full 35 percent, or more than one-third, of the roughly 31.2 million Americans aged 17 to 24 are unqualified for military service because of physical and medical issues.

Breaking News: Blue-Dog Democrats announce they want to wait until after 2036 elections to work on passing President (Sasha) Obama's agenda.

That's priceless. Thanks for making me smile this morning.

give a very weak suicide theory...
Can you say, cover up?

Wow...

to do is pull yourself up through a levered rope system without pulleys while your hands are bound or unbound and the rope is around your fuckin' neck!

Looks like we've got the best and brightest working on this...

unacceptable.

Where's CNN (Complicit Non-News) on this? Oh yeah, giving us the teabagger tour schedule every ten minutes...

But who watches CNN anyway...

and no radio, you do what you've gotta do. Background noise...

Since the Army announced yesterday that the Fort Hood shooter was dead only about nine hours before it was announced he was alive in the hospital, I don't take much of anything I hear today as absolute fact. For instance, on msnbc this morning they are saying since he hadn't been at fort hood very long he couldn't have heard many horrid war stories from guys returning from war. Well since he was at Walter Reed up until recently, couldn't he have heard horror stories there from guys returning from war? The only thing that seems for sure is that 13 people are dead and more are injured. I mean at this point something in me wonders if the Major was the real shooter.

I find the "official" BS and the M$M "news" both as unreliable or complete BS made from whole cloth.

What possible reason would the military have to say anything other than the truth in this case?
If they wanted to blame a guy with a ME background for something he didn't do, you'd think they'd have made damn sure he was dead.
At this point, I don't have any reason not to believe what Gen. Cone said about the case.

But

Did you believe him when he said the shooter was dead?

It is a credibility thing with me.

Not that I think he is a liar just not putting stock in the "reports" until the dust settles.

So much crazy shit goin on right now....
that's pretty much where I'm at...I'm waitin to see what develops.

For some reason the Pat Tillman story keeps bouncing around in my head. I just have a tendency to be doubtful of immediate news stories especially in a case like this. That was a pretty stark report to say the shooter was dead when he was in the hospital and it opens the door to wonder.

Imagine the chaos immediately following this tragedy...
Initial reports are often incorrect...I heard that a few times last night...

And if the military wanted to railroad this guy as being a Muslim extremist, or whatever...they'd make sure he was 100% dead.
Sometimes, people just go apeshit for reasons we can't understand.

their hero? Bwaaahh! Gotta love it!

A joint message with my friend John Conyers

[...]

"We are always grateful for your support. We are now asking you to join us in suggesting to congressional leaders that this is not the right time to call the roll on a stand-alone single payer bill. That time will come. And when it does there will not be any doubt of the outcome. This system of health care injustice will not be able to endure forever. We are pledged to make sure of that."

Sincerely,
Congressmen John Conyers and Dennis Kucinich

It will happen but it is not the right time now.

seems like a lot of effort for only a pedestrian bridge. Would never be built in the US.

I thought conservatives/libertarians/Republicans were supposed to be the responsible, hard-working contingent of our society who don't have time for cheesy, obnoxious protests. Why does it seem like they have so much time to teabag each other?

Boehner had plenty of time yesterday to make of a fool of himself in several different ways. The health care bill is the biggest threat to our freedom? I think he had a couple of tea bags too many.

if he did his teabagging behind bars...

"I think he had a couple of tea bags too many few?"

Colbert said since they did their little tea party yesterday on Guy Fawkes day, they will now be called Guy Fawkers. What they do will be called Guy Fawkeing.

especially Litbrit. She's always great.

:)

That article didn't make any sense.

Good stuff overall as usual, but yeah, I thought the Singer piece was a bit weird as well, it had a few key dead links, and I don't think he makes his case. I thought Capitalism was uneven but had some great sections, which is pretty much par for the course with Michael Moore. Moore didn't go after Goldman Sachs in as much depth as Taibbi, but he did go after them, and there's also only so much he can cover. If Moore's backers are cozy with Goldman Sachs and other Wall Street firms (not that this is shocking in Hollywood), rather than that making Moore a hypocrite somehow by second or third-hand extension, isn't it more a delicious irony that he indirectly used their money against them? Personally, I think Moore isn't always the most coherent or comprehensive, but I appreciate his ambition, he's trying to make entertaining docs, and he raises important questions and gets the conversation going. Specific writers and blogs can and do get into the same stuff in more depth. The Daily Show and Colbert are also corporate-funded, but because they're popular and profitable they can snipe away. Ah well, to each their own...
