Just speaking as a person who attends an annual Solstice Party:
It's unfortunate that the Pat Robertsons use their media access to spread ignorance instead of knowledge. Two things:
1. If Robertson told the truth about Christmas, he could tell you that according to the bible, there's no way that the nativity could have happened in December. It says that shepherds were tending their flocks in the field. At this time of year, you keep your sheep in a pen, not in the field.
2. Oliver Cromwell's Puritans regarded the Catholic/Anglican celebration of Chistmas as an abomination; I can't even find a word to describe how they would react to the 21st Century Christmas celebration. Cromwell, bless his heart, forced Parliament to meet on Dec. 25.
And here's a dirty secret; the Puritans who comprised a lot of the early settlement of the U.S. brought the same attitude with them. It wasn't until a lot of Germans started coming over it the 1700's that we started seeing Christmas trees and that sort of Christmas trappings. However, Christmas didn't become a Federal holiday until 1870.
