Mike's Blog Roundup
Crooked Timber: End of the beginning
Sadly, No!: Apparently, the Pope has read Karl Marx, and Bloomberg News and some rightie bloggers think that makes him a prophet
Daily Kos: Needless to say, if we had universal healthcare, enemies of unions wouldn't be able to tell this particular lie, and American auto companies would be doing a lot better financially.
cab drollery: The arguments for Colombia's corporate class receiving trade favoritism are the usual, but their efforts appear to be directed toward covering up, rather than eliminating, violations of human rights.
Bob Geiger has cartoons for the 'Real America' and batocchio has the others

As DKos states, it is $28 per hour while the fat cat CEO makes, it is said, $11,000 per hour. That is a factor of 392 to 1.
Does anyone see a problem there?
The cost of health insurance and pension for the current plus retired workers is said to be $42 per hour of current worker. Taken with the current worker's base pay you have the $70 per hour which is so carelessly bandied about.
Does anyone care to rail about the fantastic hourly wage of Doctors or the obscene surcharge of the paper pushing health insurance terrorists?
In Germany Doctors under the current universal health care system, which is lauded, make ONE THIRD of what they did prior to the advent of the system, YET, they are STILL the HIGHEST paid professionals in that country.
Let's compare apples to apples and stop piling on the auto workers.

I'm just sick of this BS the MSM is putting out. I've heard that the $42 an hour for insurance goes to a GM owned insurance company. I'm looking to have this varified.
Even in Canada, autoworkers are some of the highest paid labourer jobs out there. The next best thing to a government job. Even if it only works out to $28/hour, WHO DO YOU KNOW that makes that kind of cash? It's completely out of whack with the rest of the economy. Autoworkers aaren't the only consumers of automobiles. How is the rest of both our nations supposed to afford these vehicles, if the real average wage of everyone else is 9-15 and hour? Having said that, I don't believe it's JUST autoworker's wages and compensation that are the problem, but they are a part of it. The Big 3 have become bloated inefficient corporations whose day is over. If a head CEO of GM walked through one of their plants, would anyone that worked there know who the hell he was? Probably not without being told. In the Japanese auto plants around where I live, the CEO's come through, and actually speak to employees like family. It isn't an Us vs. Them mentality. In striving for high wages and benefits you have to also remember, you work for them. If the compensation is too high, you have no job. Doesn't really matter how much the CEO makes.
I could work TWO HOURS a year and be all set!
I keep my thermostat at 60° F in the Michigan Winter, I only eat vegetables and walk as much as possible.
Even in Winter.

the earnings these fat cats probably earn on say a certificate of deposit. $1,000,000 over 12 months can earn over $50,000 at today's rates. Heck, a savings account would produce $20K.
Let's rail some more about the Fat Cat Financiers, their MONEY LAUNDERING schemes, BAILOUT schemes and schemes to go from being OBSCENELY RICH to EVEN RICHER as they DUPE us, our CORRUPT Congress and the world into giving them OUR money.

"Egotism is the anesthetic that dulls the pain of Stupidity" - Frank Leahy
Actually, the report on Moyers last night made that clear, see http://cabdrollery.blogspot.com/
...and the PBS show 'NOW with David Brancacchio' (which where I live is on right before Moyers), did a great job of elucidating the role of the rating comapnies (Moody's, S&P, etc.)
in enabling the downfall of our financial system and economy.
I'm sure both shows are available on the PBS website.
"Egotism is the anesthetic that dulls the pain of Stupidity" - Frank Leahy
is on on Sunday here. Thanks for telling me, I will watch, but Alan Greenspan admitted in a hearing before Congress that he had known about the AAA ratings being incorrect, and wouldn't make the correction needed because he was afraid it would tip everyone off to the worthlessness of the mortgage bundles. He should be tarred and feathered, first.
he's CFR, a Kissinger groupee, a Bilderberg attendee, and a made-member of the financial elite.
strange bedfellows huh?
...."he's CFR, a Kissinger groupee, a Bilderberg attendee, and a made-member of the financial elite."
Who isn't?? (I mean among the political "elites")
"Egotism is the anesthetic that dulls the pain of Stupidity" - Frank Leahy
well, he is a higher ranking cockroach then.
you don't get to be the NY Federal Reserve President by being a good guy and person of the middle and lower classes.
not to mention he was also a IMF stooge who wouldn't think twice about entrapping some poor 3rd world world nations in those poison-loans that was written about in Economic Hitmen.
...you can't make it to the higher echelons of our political system ( or corporate world, or media punditocracy, etc.)without selling your soul to all of those "dastardly" groups.
"Egotism is the anesthetic that dulls the pain of Stupidity" - Frank Leahy
...should reread and amend his own paper / prediction to read:
"...a decline in ethics (say, pedophilia for starters,)can lead the the disintegration of a global, multi-gazillion dollar religious enterprise."
"Egotism is the anesthetic that dulls the pain of Stupidity" - Frank Leahy
or any religious figure can make moral judgments is ludicrous.
When they finally get rid of all the perversion in their own ranks (pedophiles, rapist, child abusers and downright hate mongering) then, and only then will any of us pay attention to what they have to say.
..they think that Pope-li-ness is right up there next to Godliness.
I doubt I'll ever pay attention to anything they have to say, but I would applaud if they stopped abusing children >>> of all ages!

Having torn up The Constitution and Usurped the Supreme Court are scamming on the way out the door. This whole deal with the Bail-Outs is such a "Steal your Shirt off Your Back" move that it pains the world to see how it is being done.
It's not bad enough that the thieves broke in and stole all the gifts from under the tree, they took the food from the refrigerator, the kids toys, and then took our shoes so we couldn't chase them once we found out we were robbed.
he couldn't have done it without compliant Democrats.
and that NY Federal Reserve president, now Treasury Sec. nominee.
just a bit of revolving doors for the CFR, Trilateral, Bilderberg criminals.
I guess these kind of news are too "controversial" for C&L's delicate sensibilities to cover. Right?
One would think that with Israel's close ties to the U.S., American blogs would cover Israel-related stories as much as they do Iraq or the UK or Canada. You criticize Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid for being spineless against the GOP. Methinks you've forgotten to look in the mirror lately, C&L.
Return to the pre 1967 borders NOW!
statusquObama, change you can only pretend in
...and brave! That's exactly what it is. We don't have the guts to cover every single issue you think we should. Thank you for being so principled.
knower of all that is correct?
You COULD put it up on your blog. You COULD make your blog all about it. Why don't you?
me-oww!
Haha. We've got the fake America covered! Thanks!
The Crooked Timber post is a sobering one.
Even if the $70 per hour lie were the truth, has anyone said that the reason the auto companies are losing money is because of the high salaries their autos cost more? Are they stating that the profit on each car is so low they can't make it? So what does the hourly wadge of auto workers have to do with the auto companies having billions of dollars worth of cars they CAN'T sell? I can tell you why, because this whole dog an pony show is to try to bust the union.
