Obama knows Geithner... or, has been assured by the other rubinaniacs that he is *wink* one of them.

Obama's choices for his economic team/chief of staff/HHS/SoS, make one question what he means by "change"

neoliberalism and clintonism do not constitute change.

This is the best analysis I've seen yet in a short video:

http://therealnews.com/t/index.php?option=com...

The video reflects the concerns many have who are questioning the "wisdom" of Obama as he chooses those who CREATED the economic mess to guide him out of it!!

Kind of goes to that quote by Einstein: "We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them."

"The US has an army of 90,000 soldiers in Afghanistan and is spending $100bn a year, but has still been unable to defeat 20,000-25,000 Taliban who receive no pay at all." - Patrick Cockburn

didn't know this stuff: "What Barack Obama needs to know About Tim Geithner, the AIG fiasco, Citigroup, and the Meltdown."

I try to look at this new regime as an agent for change, but what I see is "Hyar kum de new bahss, look jis lahk de ol' bahss!"

Not that I am surprised in any way by this development. I have pretty much predicted this outcome all along, to the poignant dismay of some of the Obama faithful.
Now some will say: "Give the man a chance." The problem with that is that, when you do, you're stuck with whatever 'chance' brings your way. I prefer that my hesitancies, objections, and quarrels be known in advance, so that the rebuke/disappointment, when it comes, won't be unexpected.

Geithner and the rest of the team sent the market soaring. I think Obama knows a great deal more of the truth of what's going on now than you or I combined. The other shoe is out there, waiting to drop. I wondering what that shoe is.

No doubt appointing wall street friendlies and lackeys will make the market happy. the problem is that the people obama is appointing to key economic positions are complicit in our current crisis. abbybwood posted a great einstein quote, which about sums it up.

of course, judging the economic health of the country based on the market is a sure way to misjudge the economic health of the country.

I can see it all now.

More broken treaties between the United States and the American Indians and another Waco too!!

(After all, the U.S. government certainly cannot allow the Lakota to use silver and gold as currency, right?? Right??!)

When Paulson began to speak this morning the market was up about 135. Within just a few minutes after he finished the market had lost all its gain. Obama will speak at noon today and we'll see if the market likes that or not.

Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.

From The Institutional Risk Analyst:

President-elect Obama and the American people have a choice: embrace financial sanity and safety and soundness by deflating the last, biggest speculative bubble using the time-tested mechanism of insolvency. Or we can muddle along for the next decade or more, using the Paulson/Geithner model of financial rescue for the AIG CDS Ponzi scheme and embrace the Japanese model of economic stagnation.

Thanks for the link to Bush's Last Secrets. Anything that Bush enacted or proscribed through Executive Order (hundreds of actions), Obama can rescind and says he'll review them with an eye to whether they're necessary or not.

Quite oddly, Bush says he doesn't plan to issue pardons for torture because he has Justice Department "memos" advising him it was legal.

The officials point to Justice Department legal opinions that supported the administration's methods of detaining and interrogating terror suspects.

Obama is going to have a lot on his plate and must set his priorities, of course. But I hope there's a time when the worst problems have been alleviated and the Obama administration will authorize thorough investigations of Bush's illegal torture and those DOJ firings.

Angler does a good job of laying out some of what Cheney, Addington and the OVP have covered up, but there's definitely a need for a comprehensive investigation.
