More Joining American Military as Jobs Dwindle
By LIZETTE ALVAREZ
The last fiscal year was a banner one for the military, with forces meeting or exceeding their recruitment goals for the first time since 2004.

I think everyone saw this coming. Basically they are being starved into joining. Such a damned sad situation.
"Over 75 tears ago as the Hoover administration prepared to slink..."
I think the word "tears" was supposed to be "years" but somehow tears fits perfectly.
who at C&L edited it out of the Roundup? Obama? Change my chump ass.
Obama had no control over what HBO showed last night. And there was a post regarding the HBO showing here at C&L last night.
saying they had a post last night is like Obama saying he wants to look forward not backassward. What have they posted lately?
That's about the most foolish criticism of President Elect Obama I've yet seen on C&L. Obama is to blame because of what HBO decided not to show? Really?
I have been to the mountaintop...
And they already had a Starbucks.
I'm not falling for that liberal organizing come on. I'm waiting for
McDonald's to serve coffee at their Mountaintop outlet so I don't have to wear that beret. Which, if I WAS wearing, HBO would edit out.
me in the blogroundup today Mike. Very appreciated.
Many on a rant about making the opening of the Obama administration an orgy of recrimination for the absolutely colossal outrages of Bushco should heed the point you make....
"Ultimately, the riots helped facilitate forty years of conservative hegemony as urban America reaped the whirlwind of white resentment and indifference."
I prefer to see Bush remembered as is rather than martyred.
I'm having difficulty squaring this comment with the one ricky made above blaming Obama for HBO's actions. Was one or the other of these comments intended to be snark?
If anyone feels like it, tomorrow would be a great day to fly your American flag.
at the Mountaintop Starbucks, wear it as flair on your lapel.
Brand new beginning.
Brand new flag!
Mine isn't brand new, but it hasn't seen sunlight for some time now. I imagine it's going to fly a whole lot prouder tomorrow than it ever has.
we will burn the old flag, as one should, but just so's it's not a waste, we will all light one big fatty off from it as our way to celebrate the dawn of a new day.
up some of those dying embers of wingnut outrage in the process, eh?
I know what you mean but...sounds like a winner! As for flags and pins, things in other words, I would rather find other representations to cherish.
Kind of funny as to those right-wing evangelical christians who castigate Cathoics for idolatry do the same with flags and pins.
The flag in and of itself means nothing if what it represents stands for nothing.
Tomorrow it will wave over a new beginning.
It sure will!
Now my flag represents the pride I feel in what we did on Nov.4th of last year.
Actually they do the same to the Bible. Most right-wing evangelical christian homes make a point of having an expensive, impossibly big and fancy Bible in some prominent place, too big to read, and maybe with special lights. And yet according to most polls although the Bible ranks high in book sales it's one of the most underread books, even by those claim to PROFESS it.
it's especially easy to tell that not very many of them have read ANY of the New Testament, or they would discover that they rarely are in sync with the teachings of Jesus.
I was going to say Smuckey's
But that may be a regional thing.
I was going to say Bob's Big Boy
But that might be a personal thing.
Did they only have those in Southern California?
Loved the silver goblet shakes and their side salad. It was a 1/4 head of Iceberg lettuce (not chopped up) with a scoop of thousand island on top. Nothing else.
We had them in Florida. I used to love their cole slaw. None other tasted as good.
Don't understand how they failed. they'll probably bring them back sometime in the future, like they did with the 50's diners a while back.
I don't think they were ever that widely distributed in Texas. We had a couple in the Dallas area, but they're all gone now.
I remember going there to get their hot fudge sundays in frosted metal cups. Presumably it's where I got my taste for dark chocolate.
Of course in my neck of the woods, when we went to queen it didn't mean to go marching in flaming parades, but to Dairy Queen.
I also have vague memories of going to diners and grills where I would get my favorite, hot roast beef and gravy on bread, with fries on the side. Some of the potatoes would be a little overdone, some under, but they were great.
But this was before McDonalds seem to take over the entire family eatery business.
Just 24 hours from now.
But for some reason, this one cracked me up the most.

People are so creative.
Talk about history repeating itself…
This little clip from the Original Wizard of Oz movie seems amazingly appropriate for tomorrow.

Hoover and the banksters screwed up in 1931
Bushco and their army of willing banksters are repeating the same old tired losing formula.
What made and saved their grandpa's fortunes is being repeated today to keep their personal fortunes and empires going, but damn the rest of us.
