What color is the sky in Mean Jean Schmidt's world? Because we are clearly through the looking glass when the Wicked Witch of Ohio claims that most Americans are against this bill (LIES), that the CBO says healthcare costs will not be reduced (LIES, although in fairness, they trashed the Republican version), and reduced Medicare benefits (LIES).

Maybe if the Republicans have nothing but lies and scare tactics to offer up as their objection to health care reform, that should tell their tea-baggin' supporters something.

The American people, 69 millions, spoke when they voted and elected Obama. Therefore, we want Healthcare reform and that is that!

though . . that's the catch!

after 70+ years of trying and being defeated -this is change from the status quo not enough but a start!...

What I do not understand is why these reps think by reciting the lies on the floor of the debate that anyone will believe them now? Haven't the Congress been charged with reading the bill---haven't the CBO and other groups called out the republicans distortions as lies and false? Who do they think they are speaking to--????

This is far from a debate...even with Roberts rules! Grandstanding and screeching!

Yes

Since the GOP has nothing but lies, it SHOULD tell their sheep something. The problem is: their sheep believe the lies, and say the truth-tellers are lying. They ARE that sick. Their motto is: Who you gonna believe? Me or your lying eyes?

No, no, no, no, no, no health care reform!
IF you commie liberal fascist socialist hitlers force health care on Americans, I might have to get me the mental health I so desperately and obviously need!
No, no, no!
/sob

1. Single Payer
2. Medicare for all
3. Fixes the problems in Medicaid and Medicare
4. Does not penalize the POOR and DISABLED
5. Includes public Option and not something called "triggers" and "Co-Ops"

Again, unless this is the Conyers Bill, then I say LET IT GO DOWN IN DEFEAT!!!!

As the Bill stands now it SUCKS!!! It is more money on money and does not do anything to SOLVE or IMPROVE the current problem.....

I agree with Robert Reich-as the bill stands now, IT SUCKS!!!!

One does not have to be a "right-winger" to know the Dems have laid down to the Insurance Companies and Big Business over the little guy. I am not a right winger or a Republican and detest this bill. Look a little deeper into Pelosi's bill and WHAT SHE HAS NOT ALLOWED IN IT BEFORE YOU GET ALL HAPPY, OKAY?

I am sorry, but this bill is NO GOOD!!!!

As the Bill stands now. let it go down to defeat!!! It's not going to help the poor or disabled at all.....

Back to watching the West Virginia Football Game.....

From Congressmen Dennis Kucinich and John Conyers

Dear Friends,

We thank you for your continued devotion to the cause of health care for All Americans. We have worked together for many years to write, promote and campaign for HR676, a single payer, not for profit health care system. Your work, in communities across America, has been instrumental in helping at least ten states create single payer movements, with many more states to come.

Tomorrow, the House of Representatives is scheduled to consider a single payer bill. As the two principal co-authors of the Conyers single payer bill, we want to offer a strong note of caution about tomorrow's vote.

The bill presented tomorrow will not be HR676. While we are happy to relinquish authorship of a single payer bill to any member who can do better, we do not want a weak bill brought forward in a hostile climate to unwittingly accomplish what would be interpreted as a defeat for single payer.

Here are the facts: There has been no debate in Congress over HR676. There has not been a single mark-up of the bill. Single payer was "taken off the table" for the entire year by the White House and by congressional leaders. There has been no reasonable period of time to gather support in the Congress for single payer. Many members accepted a "robust public option" as the alternative to single payer and now that has disappeared. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has scored the bill scheduled for a vote tomorrow in a manner which is at odds with many credible assumptions, meaning that it will appear to cost way too much even though we know that true single payer saves money since one of every three dollars in the health care system goes to administrative costs caused by the insurance companies. Is this really the climate in which we want a test vote?

While state single payer movements are already strong, the national single payer movement is still growing. Many progressives in Congress, ourselves included, feel that calling for a vote tomorrow for single payer would be tantamount to driving the movement over a cliff. The thrill of the vote would disappear quickly when the result would be characterized not as a new beginning for single payer but as an end. Such a result would be seen as proof that Congress need not pay attention to efforts to restore in Conference Committee the right of states to pursue single payer without fear of legal attacks by insurance companies.

We are always grateful for your support. We are now asking you to join us in suggesting to congressional leaders that this is not the right time to call the roll on a stand-alone single payer bill. That time will come. And when it does there will not be any doubt of the outcome. This system of health care injustice will not be able to endure forever. We are pledged to make sure of that.

Sincerely,
Congressmen John Conyers and Dennis Kucinich

I added the bold

Robert Reich wrote that:

“....Obama's focus on health care rather than jobs, when the economy is still so fragile and unemployment moving toward double digits, could make it appear that the administration has its priorities confused. While affordable health care is critically important to Americans, making a living is more urgent. Yet the administration's efforts to date on this more basic concern have been neither particularly visible nor coherent.... The current rate of unemployment would have been even higher were it not for the federal stimulus package, but the stimulus should have been much larger. Especially with the states still cutting back on spending and raising taxes, the federal stimulus will be barely enough to keep unemployment from hitting 11 percent by the middle of 2010. Yet as the rate of unemployment continued to rise faster and higher than the White House anticipated, Obama could not return to Congress to seek a larger stimulus. He was spending political capital on health care.... While health care reform, if done right, can help American families stay afloat in the economy, the current bills won't offer most Americans any appreciable decline in the cost of their health insurance nor clear improvement in the efficiency or quality of the health care they receive, and those who will benefit won't see the benefits until 2014 at the earliest. All this is partly a result of Obama's sharpest break from Clinton -- whose ambitious health care plan drew immediate fire from Big Pharma, the American Medical Association, and health insurers: The Obama White House bought off the medical-industrial complex by promising it fatter profits, bolstered by tens of millions of new paying customers......That and other deals cut with industry -- including promises to Big Pharma that Medicare wouldn't use its bargaining clout to reduce drug prices, to the AMA that doctors wouldn't have to face larger cuts in Medicare reimbursement rates, and to private insurers that the White House wouldn't fight hard for a public insurance option -- are likely to make the resulting reform far more costly than it would be otherwise. These extra costs will be borne by those Americans who will be required to buy insurance but won't qualify for federal assistance, along with Medicare beneficiaries who will be paying more and receiving less. These people may not know they're indirectly paying the costs of buying off these industries, but they'll know they're getting shafted (Republicans will be sure to make them aware, even though the GOP has a much longer record of shafting the middle class for the benefit of big business).....The optimist in me says Obama can pivot off a health-care victory and launch some new initiatives that palpably and quickly spur job growth. The realist says there aren't any such initiatives -- at least none that can work fast enough to reverse the tide of unemployment before the midterm elections.... If Obama and the Democrats lose one or both houses of Congress in the midterms, it will be because the president learned only the most superficial lesson of the Clinton years. Health-care reform is critically important. But when one out of six Americans is unemployed or underemployed, getting the nation back to work is more so.....”

A Single Payer, or even decent Public Option would do wonders for our economy over night. It will take months to pass another lame pork laden"stimulus" bill, with more tax cuts for the Rich, and a year or more for such a bill to be effective.

If Single Payer: Medicare for everyone were to be phased in starting in January with say, indigent, homeless people, and children to receive it first, there would be an immediate economic upswing. AND it would help everyone, not just the Banksters and Wall Street Thieves & Liars.

They all know darn well they are lying.

"It's a basic truth of the human condition that everybody lies. The only variable is about what. The weird thing about telling someone they're dying is it tends to focus their priorities. You find out what matters to them. What they're willing to die for. What they're willing to lie for."

David Shore, House M.D., Three Stories, 2004

They just want Obama to fail and HCR is his Waterloo - they were at least a little honest with that.

The Democrats are abandoning abortion rights and caving to the insurance industry. It wouldn't surprise me if they made segregation legal again before they're through. For my money, the only acceptable progressive stance is to KILL THIS BILL and start over again in the spring with single-payer.

Unless Crooks and Liars sympathizes with the Democratic Leadership Council crowd or just wants to be disagreeable with the Republican wackos....

I think this might be more about C&L pointing out the right wing wackos than actually "supporting" this bill.....

C&L does not usually censor people who oppose the bill from posting here when the lack of single payer is pointed out.

People like you prove that the left-wing fringe does exist.

Kill the bill and start over in the spring? Yeah, ok, smart move...

How about pass the bill, and then make changes to it over the course of the next several years bits at a time?

Get a clue

You actually think that after they give the big bucks over to Big Pharma and Big Insurance Companies and have gimmicks all over the bill, galore, (gimmicks like triggers and Co-Ops which do nothing) that Congress will magically "pass the bill" now, before they come back to "make changes to it over (Rahm Emanuel and Ezekiel Emanuel's dead bodies--they will make sure it does not happen by getting the bill they want now!) the course of the next several years bits at a time," huh? You must be hallucinating!

You live in fantasy land?

As a radical leftist, I live in reality and you seem to live in a fringe world of delusions. This is the BILL My FRIEND....They ain't gonna come back to "fix stuff."

This bill was cooked long ago and the things that they may come back and work on DOES NOT EXIST!!!!

Seek proffesional help. You may also want to try Lithium.

Hallucinating that they will make changes and additions over time? Do you know anything about the bills passed in congress? Nearly every single bill that gets passed has changes to previous bills attached to it. Do you really think a bill with 1000 pages is all about one subject? No, it isnt.

Do you think medicare is the same today just as it was when it passed? Not even close.

"this is THE BILL they aint gonna fix stuff! this bill was concieved long ago"

I think you should go join the teabaggers or perhaps start a far-left fringe version of the glenn beck show.

Haldol 2mg 4x daily! And what is a left wing teabagger going to call himself? A Rimmer? A carpet muncher? A rusty tromboehner? There just aren't any more patriotic sounding titles!

a "Left Wing & a Prayer"

The fundies have the prayer thingy all used up.

Glen Ford, Adolph Reed, Jr. Bruce Dixon and Margaret Kimberley have written great articles on this topic...and yes they are proud to be radicals too....in opposition to the Democrats lousy healthcare plans and bills. Unless it is the Conyers Bill, then I oppose it as it stands now. If you support this bill as it now stands, then it's YOU WHO ARE MORE LIKE REPUBLICANS THAN ANYONE ELSE!!!!p>

No, I do not drink the Democratic Party's Kool-Aid nor I am a right wing Republican...

One can oppose this bill without being a "fan" of Glen Beck....You prove how narrow minded and shallow your political views are....you are the one who more resembles the right wing....

Just opposing the right wing to settle for crap and scraps is not acceptable to me....

We're pointing out the LIES (look at the name of the site).

If the Stupak amendment remains after committee, I can't support this bill.

However, I do believe that as imperfect and lacking as this is, it will be easier to move more progressively from this point than from square one.

Dear Nicole,

Read Robert Reich's article--he is no right winger!!!

I think that health care reform is tied up with jobs and living wages.

If we could get robust reform (and if this isn't right now, the Dems will have to make it so or risk losing at the midterms and they DO know that), then small business are helped, jobs are helped and the economy improves.

Dear Nicole,

Sorry, but, I disagree with you...

I agree with Bruce Dixon at Black Agenda Report and with Robert Reich's take on this...

Dixon talks more about healthcare compared to Reich's comprehensive view...

I am not convinced at all by Mrs. Pelosi's zig zags.

The House of Representatives is voting on the rule right now. It’s expected to pass. The rule includes two amendments: the Republican substitute health care bill, and the “Stupak Amendment,” which would effectively ban private insurers and the public option from providing coverage for abortion services in the individual and small group market (and eventually everywhere, as the exchanges will over time be open to large employers, too).

Right now there are only 2 Democratic no votes on the rule. Apparently getting a vote on that amendment is enough to get the anti-choice Democrats to allow the bill to come for a vote.

God forbid, my "lunacy" being on the left makes me a pro-choice voter....too bad the Democrats have abandoned their "pro-choice" views and now line up with the Catholic Church and the Christian nut cases......I am proud to be whatever you label as me but you can get around the fact that the DEMOCRATS HAVE CAVED TO THE RIGHT WING/CHRISTIAN NUTCASES ON THIS ABORTION BAN PROVISION!!!!

if Stupak amendment remains after committee.

I have heard apologists say over and over again, that what is not in this bill can be worked on later...Geez, Joe Lieberman says this crap over and over and now today I hear echoes of this when one criticizes this bill for its vast shortcomings.

Lets's have a refresher on the Democrats who will fix things later. I will leave out the fact that Pelosi FAILED to IMPEACH Bush and Cheney and that U.S. troops are still in Iraq and Afghanistan. Here are some other items, I am waiting for the Dems to "fix" since we all know that it is done in a snap once the party is "back in power." Right? Well, have it at folks!

I am still patiently waiting for the Democrats to repeal:

1. Defense of Marriage Act
2. Don't Ask, Don't Tell
3. "Welfare Reform"

And for the Democratic Party TO ACTIVELY SUPPORT GAY MARRIAGE!!!!

THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY ESTABLISHMENT--DNC AND OBAMA WERE MISSING IN ACTION IN MAINE BECAUSE THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION AND THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY ESTABLISHMENT OPPOSE GAY MARRIAGE!!!!

I AM NOT WAITING OR HOLDING MY BREATH THAT THE DEMS WILL "FIX" THESE THINGS IN THE NEXT FEW YEARS, EITHER....

God forbid, my "lunacy" being on the left makes me a pro-choice voter....too bad the Democrats have abandoned their "pro-choice" views and now line up with the Catholic Church and the Christian nut cases......I am proud to be whatever you label me as, but, you can't get around the fact that the DEMOCRATS HAVE CAVED TO THE RIGHT WING/CHRISTIAN NUTCASES ON THIS ABORTION BAN PROVISION!!!!

I think about how Republicans fought Medicare in 1965, claiming it would lead to "Socialism", and today we have tools like John Cornyn running TV ads on how he's working to "SAVE Medicare from the Democrats."

Then, 1935 (iirc), Republicans said the same about Social Security, and when Bush threatened to Privatize it, he sank in the polls faster than the Titanic.

But in both cases, the vitriol and rhetoric never reached the heights then that we see today.

These Right-wing idiots will be on record as fighting this reform in a manner that makes Mud Wrestling seem "dainty" in comparison.

But this time around, we have YouTube and other means of video that will keep their opposition running for posterity. And once this program becomes as much a part of caring for our citizens as Medicare and Social Security, we'll be able to say "roll tape" the next time thes douchbags try to claim some "moral highground".

"makes Mud Wrestling seem "dainty" in comparison"

Lollers!

How dare she say the people DON'T want health care reform! What majority is she talking about? The bat-shit loons or the paid whores from the insurance companies?

Mean Jean Schmidt: Bought and Paid For!

We need HR 676, not this bullshit bill.

always been more of a Crenshaw fan myself
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDzIyNQkhc8&fe...

Thanks.

...is a National treasure

(I don't), but gotta credit them with songwriting skills if nothing else.

only voices I hate are in some of the clips on here ... (I mean the actual crooks and liars ...not musicians) ... I like the fact that Crenshaw is a walking anthology of pop music ... but has nowhere near the recognition of Mssrs. Dylan or even Reed ...

My voice is getting hoarse from yelling at the television today when the Republicans debating the Health Care Bill make statements which are patently untrue. The primary statement is one Boehner and his biddies keep making, that the majority of Americans have come out against this bill.

Now where is it that this has been shown, John? The various polls for weeks have shown the majority of Americans for this reform. Especially, they have shown a strong favor of the Public Option, something you keep saying all Americans are against.

But that's only the base misstatement (can I say "lie"? OK the base lie.) What about the statements that the Bill will cost us so much more in our economy? The Congressional Budget Office doesn't agree. Consumers Union doesn't agree. Oh, the Insurance Industry agrees, but right now they'll agree to anything which kills the bill.

And you are saying how this is going to cost us millions of jobs. and that it is going to give us a health care system where we won't get help for emergency heart conditions, and that Medicare will be cut to the point that millions of seniors will use their care. Where do you get this crap, John? From Rupert Murdoch's Wall Street Journal? From Fox News (Oh, that's the same source)?

I'm waiting for the point today when you put up the Republican Alternative. From what I've seen so far this will come so short on the problem that no Republican Congress person would give up their current free choice for.

So tell me, John Boehner, what will this fuly paid for legislation which does not add dime one to the deficit do that would be so bad?

Under The LobsterScope

This bitch never has and never will get laid. I almost pity her for that.

"What is the ugliest part of your body?...

I think it's your mind."

Did she say reduced Medicare benefits?! How dare those Democrats try to replace my socialized medical care with socialized medical care!

enjoy Medicare Advantage, the most cost-inefficient and fraudulent part of Medicare? I'm sure it's not their fault. But we definitely have to curtail such waste if we are going to get a handle on the spiraling out of control costs of health care. Medicare Advantage is a great place to start. The 17,000 enjoyers of this program in Ms Witch's district will have to settle for a more mundane and efficient and cost effective form of Medicare to have their health care needs met. They will be performing their patriotic duty without having to do a thing and without even knowing that they are contributing to the solution of a big problem with medicare!

require that when any Congressperson get up aqnd makes generalized statements like this, that they must then present hardcore proof of their statements? When they can't they are taken out of the record, and preferably given a good hard smack in the face. And if they are found to be outright lying...removed from office permanently. Maybe that might be a deterrent.

But I doubt it.

to enact election funding reform, or asking them to take away their own health insurance until we all get it--'they' are in charge of it. And if 'they' did that, they'd be imposing strict new rules upon themselves.

this is what you get when you allow government officials perk after perk and absolutely no cons at all. At leaast for the high enders....high pay, low-cost health, low rent, privilege after privilege. It's got to stop. Someone has to policed the government.

to all the Republicans and like good little mindless soldiers they are reciting them perfectly:

"tyranny of the majority"
"lost jobs"
"huge deficits"
"government-run"
"cuts to medicare"

blah...blah..blah..

"tyranny of the majority" = Democracy!
"lost jobs" = OutSourcing
"huge deficits" = Endless War & Tax Breaks for Millionaires & Billionaires
"government-run" = Helping people
"cuts to medicare" = Big Fat Lie from a Big Fat Liar

blah...blah..blah.. = Grunt! Snort! Oink! Grunt-grunt! Faaaarrrrtttt!

Hey, you can't argue with That, can you?

Funny. I like it.

Very good, don’t forget that when it does come out to be a lie, you just add the cover that, 'this is the way he feels, or that is what he really stands for' because Rush knows all.
Boss Limbaugh is against healthcare reform because that would put way to much competition in the drug trade for him. Less people using drugs, more drugs for Rush.

The bill is still bullsh*t

Thank you!

What with that stable of wacko wingnut women such as Bachman, Foxx, Blackburn, Emerson, I'd forgotten about Big Mama.

Guess she was feeling overshadowed. Way to go Mean Jean!

Schmidthead lying ? Hey it's the Republican party's MO , if they actually told the truth they'd never win .As for this health-care bill they are voting on , it is an absolute PIG that they're now putting the lip stick on , but given the Repugs , the Blue Dogs and the power of bribe $ it's the best the good guys can do apparently . It's now a matter of accepting a complete stinker or not , either way they failed on getting REAL reform .

What color is the sky in Mean Jean Schmidt's world? Because we are clearly through the looking glass when the Wicked Witch of Ohio claims that most Americans are against this bill (LIES)

Oh, but see, in her world (whatever its sky's color), unless you generally agree with the likes of Schmidt and other right wing wackaloons, you aren't really American anyway. So, she's telling the truth from her standpoint. She just has a very different definition of "American" than normal people.

Ya, she's hyperbolic about the definition of America but remember she did apparently lie about everything else.

This should tell us something too.
This should tell us a lot of things. This should tell us why a lot of unqualified Republicans became politicians - because they are fascists. Last week they went balls out on it. They've reached the final limb or close to it.

the American people or the Turkish Lobby. See Sibel Edmonds deposition at bradblog.com

Or here is a clip to show how compromised Schmidt is in terms of the amounts of campaign contributions she has received from Turkish interests. Also, she had twice been found in "reckless disregard for the truth" by the Ohio Election Commission, for having lied about receiving a second college degree.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=En7HhLV4oIA&fe...

Why does this crazy b***h pull her hair back so tight. Is it for the purpose of getting that tyrannical look?

I wouldn't vote for this woman simply based on her appearance. She looks totally freaking nuts, and mean as hell!

She reminds me of the "Blues Brothers" nun played so well by Kathleen Freeman.

Just use on Representative Schmidt-head the same tactic they employed on the Democratic women who wanted their remarks read in:

"I object""I object""I object""I object""I object""I object""I object""I object""I object"...ad nauseum.

Her and Rep Boehner make me so ashamed to be from Ohio, and the fact I am just outside both these loons districts, unbelievable how they get re elected, except for the fact the districts are so red, rightwing gop, that anyone or anything could get elected with an 'R' by their name. Two of the biggest liars in the House.

Overwhelming majority against it? 57% are for it, another 20% are for it with adendums, leaving 23% against it.

What math class is this harpy attending?
