Meet Tonya Jenkins. She died of shock this morning. You see, the poor thing had spent the past two years getting all of her information from Sean Hannity. She would then go to her favorite website, Free Republic, and read thousands and thousands and thousands of vitriolic posts, all containing no facts inconsistent with Mr. Hannity’s and no opinions that caused Tonya to rethink her own.
Tonya went to bed last night with a tumbler of cold tequila and a head full of comfy knowledge. She knew that the Lord Jesus would answer her prayer to never let no colored Muslim communist terrorist be no durn president. She was certain she would wake up to find that sassy Sarah Palin and her running mate, a wonderfully mavericky war hero, had been elected instead. In her Christian heart, Tonya was confident that Americans were every bit as racist as Republicans hoped they’d turn out to be, as the much discussed, posted about and wished for “Bradley Effect” would work its reactionary magic at the polls. it were as simple as getting someone to read that always liberal NYT (with its weekly Kristol report) to change open someone's eyes and change their minds. Oh, if only.
The WSJ just gave Rove another opportunity to lie. The Times does it weekly with varying gooper allies.
Add this If Only...if only all the news outlets actually did the job of reporting news (like those oh-so-tiring things like fact or source checking), but no, it is all unnamed sources, lies, smears and opinion pieces vomited up as fact.
If you want to support a newspaper that actually does report the news there's always McClatchy. Remember the one that actually reported on the lying that lead us into Iraq.
They're still top notch and without sensationalism. No "big name" political operatives writing for them and articles about actual stuff we should know about instead of parsing trivial details on stuff that is just a distraction from the real news.

I know that this is not true because they used the words, information and Sean Hannity in the same story. And we all know thats impossible.

What on earth would C&L and the person that wrote this post like me to take away from reading it? (Can I have the time it took to read and respond to it added back onto the end of my life please?) What I took away from it is that this website has as much intolerance, judgment, and vitriol, cleverly disguised as snarky satire as those terrible, awful, despicable right wing sites. You know what? Just because you're bored is no reason to let your inner douchebag emerge.
Please go get a dictionary and read the definition of satire. Then sit down, have a drink and think about it. Then realize that your post was kind of asinine. Thank you.
It sounded to me a lot more like: "Republicans are complete fucking morons." - Granted, it can be taken as satire, but it's not very good. Maybe I'm missing a backstory here or something, but why exactly is this funny? Because we all like to laugh at how

It was originally posted about 26 days ago, much closer to the election. If that was mentioned earlier, it would have made a lot more sense why merely reading a headline of the NY Times would cause such a reaction in Ms. Tonya Jenkins - i.e. OBAMA WINS - or something like that... However, it's still predictable, we were just waiting to rub it in their faces after 8 years of us looking at the NY TIMES and saying.... WHAT HAPPENED? Can't we get past this stuff or is this the comic relief therapy, maliciously aimed, that is so therapeutic to the soul?

Had you read the rest of the post at the link provided, not once, but twice, and perhaps even explored the rest of Betty Bowers' site, that would be abundantly clear.
Bowers, an offshoot of the equally hilarious and cutting Landover Baptist site, is hi-damn-larious and skewers those whose hearts and minds we could never win.
But it took me I don't know how many clicks to determine that church was satire. It was one of their "events" which finally sealed it. Unfortunately, I have seen other sites which are not satire, and nothing to laugh about.
This, however, is pretty damned funny. Happy Pasta Day one and all.

I was referring to the Landover Baptist site mentioned in the comment above. I knew this was satire.
We can't win their hearts and minds, so we should belittle them in crude and not-very-funny ways, giving them ammo for the opinion that we live to look down our noses at the working class middle Americans we claim to support?
I don't care if you added a "satire" tag, site monitor, it doesn't make this any more funny or any less offensive(nor does this seem to be really satire when you come right down to it).

Satire is ok for betty bowers, but I was reading this garbage thinking it was real. It took me a few to realize it was just a mean joke. I always equate C&L with serious sites like Talkingpointmemo, not bartcop.
Fun is fun and levity is nice but this is nasty.
Isn't there a cat in a tree somewhere that needs linking to? Isn't there some washed up band video to feature instead? Total let-down. This kind of thing makes C&L lose credibility.
Many Christian Americans, Journalist, Law Makers and even Joe the Plummer's are in shock and still don't believe a black man is President. It's like actually seeing Santa or ET. Once the shock is over anger will come. Hannity is not a Journalist but a bartender so it makes since Tonya related to him so quickly. Beck is an alcoholic and drug user so many can relate to him also. I've watched real Journalist do their best to spin and still spread him about Obama while Bush continues his criminal ways. Hank Paulson got a smack down from Steve Forbes and Foreign finanical experts. Good new for Citi Bank customers Dubai will own the majority shares of the Bank. So any customer who hates people of color or from the Middle East you better find a new bank quick.

No, this isn't satire, and if you think it is, you don't know what satire is and need to look up the definition.
This is only predictable jokes based in stereotypes which I guess a lot of people think is typical of an east-coast, latté-drinking, rich, urban liberal mindset. Perfect for making yourself look like the stereotype Fox-news viewers have of you, and thus doing a disservice to C&L and everything good you stand for.
Nicole, forwarding this cheap "joke" reflects on you and the site, and it makes you look petty and bigoted. I'd say: not at all in Obamas spirit! More like in the Sarah Palin "Real America and not"-spirit.
Do you even have the rights to use that image of the poor woman? She is an actual person, you know. Does she know how you use her likeness? Does her family? Can't this be interpreted as libel and put you at risk?
The "LOL, she's ugly. I will project all bad personality traits onto her, -LOL!"-mindset makes you look shallow. If you think she looks so weird that you needed to show this, the ugliness is inside of of you.
Are you sure this is a way of showing that liberals are more compassionate that conservatives? This makes me feel ill, following the writings and postings of C&L for many years.

I agree. When you post things like this, you forfeit your right to get pissed when conservatives brand us all as latte-drinking elitists. I thought one of the great things about being liberal was that we refrained from stereotyping others as the neo-cons do. Sure, this piece offers some cheap laughs, but they're just that - cheap.
I agree. This "satire" about "Tonya Jenkins" is in poor taste and just not funny. This is not satire-- more like mindless hate-filled ridicule without a real or redeeming point-- low point in this blog's generally quality material.

This post needs some context. It feels like an Onion piece but I have no fucking clue what it is satirizing. Someone please explain the significance of Tanya Jenkins and how she ended up getting her mugshot taken or at least provide a link that explains what the hell this post means.
Here's CONTEXT for you... listen to Sean Hannity on the radio sometime for five minutes. That should be PLENTY of time for you to feel your brain start to shrink... and your moral compass start to waver and spin.
Here's more CONTEXT: did you know that Rush is now calling himself "America's Anchorman?" What a laugh. That is obviously a self-aggrandizing effort to make hiself sound more authoritative and "truthier." Nothing could be further from the truthiness. He's not an anchorman... he's an ANCHOR (as in a big fat chunk of badly cast rusty iron that will pull you down into a moral chasm of cold emptiness where there is NO ILLUMINATION.
Oh, by the way, Laura Ingrahm is just as bad... except she has NO BROADCASTING TALENT or personality either.

I'm sure you can find me in the archives if you search a while back. I didn't see your nickname here five years ago, four years ago, three years ago, two years ago or even one year ago. Actually I havn't seen your nick until now. Yes, I have read C&L regularly (almost every day), and sometimes posted here, for that long.
Yes, some people actually care about doing the right things, not just being on the winning team.
Authoritarian followers tend to only care about positioning themselves on the winning side. They also tend to project all their negative emotions onto what they perceive to be "ugly" and "weak", and they also think largely in shallow stereotypes.
This is exactly where the Republicans went wrong. They let their lowest and most superficial instincts take control. I'd hate to see the progressive community fall into the same trap.

I said it a few weeks ago and it appears my message hasn't gotten across. I don't care how much of an asshole Hannity, Limbaugh or any of them are. We don't sink to their level. We aren't supposed to be petty like them!
It's attitudes like this that turned the Congress Republican for the first time in years in 1994. It's attitudes like this that cause neoconservatives to think of Progressives as elitists.
This makes me think that this new found reign of the Progressives will be short-reigned. The cons would be in control again to destroy what could be rebuilt, and even the face of God does seem to be turned away.
This article is one I personally think if President-ELECT Obama saw and could speak on it, he'd condemn it with 1000 tongues. This is surely not his message of change. This is something he had no ideas of doing.
I've read this blog since 2005; and I remember reading most of John's articles and agreeing with MOST of them. I actually started posting here in July under different names before finally settling on this one; from retarded names like samedontvotemccain to ifmccainwinsweriot. So if you think I'm just another "concern troll" how about you go back into the archives and read back. I'm no god damn Dennis or some other douche bag and to be put on that level for ANYONE here would be shameful.
I embrace the message and statute of President-ELECT Obama. We shant be bigoted or we will ruin this opportunity to restore our country to greatness.
