People for the American Way has created an ad that is now playing in potential Democratic-pick up Senate seats, targeting Susan Collins (Maine), Norm Coleman (Minnesota), Elizabeth Dole (North Carolina), John Sununu (New Hampshire) and Gordon Smith (Oregon).

As part of People For the American Way's Save the Court campaign, we're running ads in key states targeting senators who voted against their constituents' interests by supporting George W. Bush's extreme judicial nominees.

The ads below call out senators who sided with Bush when it came to judicial nominees whose decisions had very real — and negative — impacts on families in their state.

I'm a member of PFAW. You can join as well, and your donation will help buy ad time and hopefully help us increase the Democratic majority in the Senate.

By the way, one of the reasons that Dole faces such a tough race? The perception that she is nothing more than an empty suit. In 2006, she only spent 13 days in her state and was rated by Congress.org as 93rd most effective senator. In a field of 100, that's gotta hurt.

Out of 100 Senators, someone always has to be last (and 93rd).

Just out of interest, who was first?

Out of greater interest, who was last?

let's see the whole ranking.

Where was Obama? McCain?

I just got my response, but it is a big dodge--I am not commenting about WHO they cover. I was commenting on HOW they cover...I got the following response just now:
"Dear Viewer:

Thank you for taking time to contact us regarding Barbara West's recent interview with Senator Joe Biden, the Democratic Vice Presidential candidate. Thousands of viewers have contacted us. We have personally read hundred of emails and listened to callers expressing their opinions on this interview, both critical, and supportive. Your comments are important to us. This interview is part of a much larger body of work that has covered both campaigns for months. In addition, WFTV has interviewed numerous other candidates from both parties throughout this election process, and we pride ourselves in offering many diverse on air and online opportunities for candidates to explain and communicate their views.

We will continue to offer a broad range of coverage of Vote 2008, through election night. This will include live coverage of the Obama/Clinton rally in Kissimmee on TV27 on October 29, and live coverage of any McCain stop in Central Florida before the election. You can see all of our interviews with political candidates at WFTV.com. Based on your passion during this election process, we know we will see you at the polls on November 4th. Thank you for sharing your comments with us."

goodby lizzie , we hardly knew ye

Tom Allen is running a lousy campaign.

She is a toad kisser-upper to Lieberman's money.

So I've seen. Damn shame too. How he is getting blown out in Maine by a repuke this year is mind boggling!

What kind of judges will Obama appoint? It does concern me. Of course, we know the screws-loose-loony-toons breed that would ascend to the bench from a McCain Administration, but I wonder who actually will end up on the Court in the next few years. I liked Clinton's nomination of Ginsburg, but am not a fan of Breyer's. I like Justice Souter, Papa Bush's good pick. We shall see, I suppose.

PfAW is awesome, by the way! I doubt they have a good chance at unseating Collins, but the other three are very vulnerable.

Calling her opponent Godless (as if that was a bad thing). These R's are just NASTY when they get behind.

I'm also interested in the "effectiveness rating" that those old guys in the DSCC ad. I'm curious where some of these clowns rank.

(The commercial I referenced can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLkazmjpcIs)

It was in the article from Roll Call's congress.com that I linked to in the original post. I did some cursory site searching for the ratings of all the senators (I won't lie: I didn't do an exhaustive one), but I couldn't find it.

Wouldn't that argument get BOTH sides to the polls?

Send Lizzy to a retirement home with Bob, and a bottle of viagara. That should keep em' busy.

Holy crap! Does she look like Jack Nicholson's Joker character or what?

Yeah , one more face lift and this old prune will really look like she's talking out of her asshole!
