Progressive Change Targets Harry Reid
Sen. "I need 60 votes to do anything" Reid has lost the confidence of enough of us over his weak leadership that Progressive Change has decided to run ads letting Harry know that he better show some spine, or be prepared to be voted out. From the email going out to PCCC's membership:
Senate Majority Leader Reid is brokering a health care bill this week. But he seems ready to cave to a few corporate Democrats who want to kill a public health insurance option. We can't let that happen.
Our ad features one of Harry Reid's constituents, Nevada nurse Lee Slaughter. She has seen insurance companies cut off care to patients in need -- and says that in 2010, she will vote on only one issue: "I'm watching to see if Harry Reid is strong and effective enough as a leader to pass a public option into law."
We know that Sen. Reid is concerned about his election next year. Polls show him trailing Republicans, and he's already running campaign ads. Our ad will remind him that for many voters back home, the public option is a make-or-break issue. Voters want Reid to fight for the public option and win -- not cave.
Keith Olbermann reports that Reid is "pushing back against progressives" and "setting expectations low." That's unacceptable. The public overwhelmingly wants the public option. Democrats control the government, with a huge 60-seat Senate majority.
This week is critical. We need Harry Reid to be a strong and effective leader right now. It has never been more important.
If you can, please help PCCC raise the funds to put this ad on the air.

At least the Repuke won't pretend to be a Dem.

So, you'd prefer an honest thief than to one who sell you out?
... But of course that's predicated on your use of "pretend", NO?
Let's not fool ourselves now, more (R)'s than (D)'s are proven LIARS!
But hey, I guess with an honest thief you know what you're getting up front, NO?
Never mind that this honest thief never tells you about that side door.
Oh well...

"strongly worded letters" to Senator Reid are in order.
audit-prosecute-incarcerate
I have called and sent "strongly worded letters" to my Senator, Harry Reid.
I cited his comments last week that he is still seeking a "bipartisan" solution as well as his recent comments that he would like to pass the health plan that he believes in, but is still out to compromise. I told him that I knew he was signaling that he was going to punt the public option. I told him that Bill Frist never insisted on 60 votes to get anything done in the Senate. I told him that he would lose the election without a public option (not that I am content with the public option).
I just got a BS form letter today from Reid's office that did not address my concerns (surprise). I take this to mean that Reid has abandoned the public option. I promptly canceled myself from Reid's email list, from the DCCC list, and anything else that is associated with the Democratic party. In the reasons for canceling, I made it clear that I am drawing a line in the sand on the public option.
Anyone who has any association with the Democratic party should sever their ties. No contributions. No support.
You wonder why people behave as they do? Don't turn to religion for your answer; turn to the public square the next time there is an execution and look into the eyes of the citizens. Naked crime:they revel in it.It is their life, their sustenance, their joy
Grayson, Weiner, Kucinich, and any other Democrat willing to speak truth to power.

most members of Congress are not especially bright.
Which is why hardly anyone in Nevada who is even registered to vote will bother to vote at all and those who do will buy all the pretty slick mailers they get from the DNC and they'll march to the polls like Stepford voters and punch the hole for SENATOR REID - INCUMBENT.
Too bad.

As someone who lives in Clark County (read Las Vegas metro) and who reads and votes, I'm rather surprised at how you've painted all of us - actually, it's offensive. I don't get any mail from the DNC because I refuse to give those turds any money. I get mail and phone calls from both Reid and Ensign and ignore it all. I'll be watching the voting and the behavior, that's how I'll vote - I'm not mystified by shiny objects.
I live in North Vegas. Reid will not get my vote if he does not support a public option.

so that is all they care about. He is working for them!!
you've got everyone all figured out. Now, why don't you start on solving some of the larger problems that plague our society.
They should be targeting Obama as well. He's worse than Reid! He hasn't done do a thing to get the public option passed. He simply refuses to lead. Incredible. He's pathetic.
He just sent his people out on the Sunday morning talk shows to say, once again, that the public option is not neccessary. Reid is weak, but with help like that from Obama what do people expect?
...being TARGETED.

These people have been robbing us for years. I don't for the life of me know why we keep sending the same people that keep doing the same things over and over again. We need to empty washington! Send them home in wholesale fashion. Take the profit out, of public service and put the public service, back in!
They have take what was supposed to be the responsibility of every American and made a special network of mostly dishonest and incompetent life long positions with retirement and lots of travel on our dime.
You were supposed to serve and go back to your former life. It was public service! Now what we have is self service!
republicanism/conservatism is a mental illness!
the healthcare bill is exposing the traitors. we had little idea it was this cancerous and corrupt.
Some stuff you can't make up!
...the "need" for 60 votes is a joke anyway. I would be just as happy to have the party of "no" and their Blue Dog buddies filibuster, just so the American people can clearly see who supports them and who is on the big medical/pharma take.
I really hope that every progressive in Congress stands firm and that Harry is forced to try to talk the Blue Dog DINOs down instead. The public poll numbers have been consistently in favor of a public plan...let those who oppose it pay the price.
"Buy the ticket, take the ride."

A crappy public option that won't even be activated for years is probably worse than a complete fail that might lead to some new personnel in DC!
it IS a complete fail, which is what the repugs and corporatists want.
Some stuff you can't make up!
he is doing exactly as he is told to. 60 votes is stupid and his masters know it. But of course no one in the media will challenge that lame excuse for inaction. But isn't it president Obama's job to put a foot in his ass?
"But isn't it president Obama's job to put a foot in his ass?" Exactly. Obama's refusal to lead is the problem. He's a real nowhere man.
he'd get roasted by all of them and the media too and he'd wind up in the same position as clinton found himself - without a bill and with a party revolt on his hands. we don't really know what is going on behind the scenes and the media is working overtime to show Obama as inactive or ineffective.
Some stuff you can't make up!
K Street, the home of lobbyists, and Obama is waiting for the bill. More legislation comes from K Street then from Capital Hill.
now don't forget C Street

He's shown his true colors. Reid will find is "backbone" in an election year for us to be stuck with him for another 5 years after the election is over. Reid has shown his "leadership abilities" LET'S GET RID OF HARRY REID NOW WHEN HE COMES UP FOR RE-ELECTION AND BE DONE WITH HIM.
Seems there's a lot of republican spammers online at C&L today.
I wouldn't give one "red cent" to boldprogressives.org myself, sorry. What we need as a country is bold leadership, yes sure. We voted them in already as I recall. What we don't need is more divisive ads to muddy the water now. Who is boldprogressives.org? They don't say on their website, but do mention that once they get someone elected:
..they'll trust the political instincts of progressives and be sturdy allies as we work with them to pass a bold progressive agenda.
What is that agenda, who are these people and why does it seem to me that they'd like to fracture the democratic party into pieces to make another republican take over, easier to pull off? A close look at that site tells you lots of nothing about who the group actually is. But it sure has lots of links to fund drives you can give money to.
thedailybeast just put up a list of Americas smartest cities, take a guess where Las Vegas landed on that list. 54th.

boldprogressives.org selects what appears to be a former drug user (lots of those out in LV) gone clean, I guess, to represent them and try to take out Reid? Yea he's weak. That's why she voted for him over and over again. That's why he's been the majority leader for years now, he's weak. Why doesn't she go after the republicans that made the mess in the first place?
I think what's weak is this ad. And, I'm sure it'll bring in lots of money from republicans. No doubt.
More from the boldprogressives website...
Every election cycle, inexperienced candidates who run on bold progressive ideas – candidates who political insiders predict “can’t win” – come within a few points of victory. But too many lose winnable races due to the mistakes and inefficiencies of their campaigns.
Yep, just what we need, more "inexperienced candidates" with bold ideas being given lots more money to get them into office to make a bigger mess of things. That line sounds like it's right out of the "elect george (umadumbass) bush for president" campaign.
You want to be bold and progressive? Round up some smart people to run for office next election, and quit wasting cash with these these stupid attack ads that only help republicans look smarter than they really are as they attack Democrats day after day.
Just what we need, more infighting. Although, I guess Harry Reid fits right in with that, being a "weak" boxer and all...
Senate Majority Leader Reid is brokering a health care bill this week. But he seems ready to cave to a few corporate Democrats who want to kill a public health insurance option. We can't let that happen
He seems ready to cave to a few corporate democrats, so we go after him, not those corporate DINO's?
Yea sure, makes perfect sense. To republicans.
Has Harry considered what might happen to him in the next election?
Perhaps the old goat just might have to find a different line of work.
Frankly, I don't think that would be a shame at all.
I agree with some of the commenters above.
To hell with republicans! Let 'em filibuster until hell freezes.
And when the voters see this happening I have a feeling that the light may finally dawn on them that the PARTY OF NO is NOT LOOKING OUT FOR THEIR BEST INTERESTS.
And then (perhaps) THEY'LL VOTE THE SCUM OUT.
Including the "wafflers" and DINO's like Reid, Feinstein, and some of the rest of them.
Hell, I can dream, can't I?
fluff your pillow for you!
:)
Some stuff you can't make up!
How about Harry does that thing they do on all the courtroom dramas and "treat the witness as hostile."
Treat the recalcitrant senators as if they were republicans - a stretch, I know - and steamroll them like Frist would.
Cheers,
