Sunday Morning Bobblehead Thread

David Bowie rehearsing "Changes", 1976

As the site team gets used to the new site changes, time marches on for the Sunday news shows and the bobbleheads who populate them. Neither of the presidential candidates is appearing on a show this Sunday, but plenty o' proxies to go around. Gov. Ed Rendell faces off against Gov. Tim Pawlenty on This Week, while Sen. Joe Lieberman stumps against Sen. Claire McCaskill on FoxNews Sunday. Gwen Ifill will appear on Meet the Press, perhaps to advise Tom Brokaw on the perils of being a moderator against the whiny McCain campaign. But yet again, no Sarah Palin. What a surprise.

ABC's "This Week" - Govs. Ed Rendell, D-Pa., and Tim Pawlenty, R-Minn.; Sens. Mel Martinez, R-Fla., and Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio.

CBS' "Face the Nation" - Gov. Jennifer Granholm, D-Mich.; Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif.; Reps. Roy Blunt, R-Mo., and Heather Wilson, R-N.M. NBC's "Meet the Press" - Gwen Ifill, PBS journalist and moderator of the vice presidential debate.

CNN's "Late Edition" - Reps. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill., and Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn.; Washington Post reporter Barton Gellman, author of a new book on Vice President Dick Cheney; Nancy Pfotenhauer, adviser to John McCain; New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

"Fox News Sunday" - Sens. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., and Claire McCaskill, D-Mo.; Brooks Jackson, director of FactCheck.org, a project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania.

"The Chris Matthews Show" - Panel: Rick Stengel, Michelle Norris, Kathleen Parker, Joe Scarborough. Topics: 4 weeks to go: Obama has the momentum... Can McCain catch him? Which candidate will benefit from the next debate's town hall format?

So, what's catching your eye this morning?

I understand that when someone wants to update their site, there's nothing you can do about it. But really, this is a disaster.
The font does not go well with the blank white back-ground. There're no natural borders any more. The logo looks tacky.

If there are certain things you just HAVE to keep, at least make it so that it's not open in the left anymore. And get rid of the perpetual whitespace.

I think the change is excellent. The site is faster, and I don't find id hard on the eyes.

We're huge fans of the BBC series, Life on Mars. I believe the song is on Hunky Dory. Now I see that an American network has decided to rip this off for themselves. If you have BBC America and want to see the real thing before you are spoiled by the new one, there will be 7 hours of the original show on BBC America at 13:00 today. The wife and daughter are actually from Hyde where this is supposed to have taken place. It is an excellent show with a very weird ending which I won't give away!!

Wow... and I thought not getting connected to your site was an indication that big brother was blocking you & me... (paranoid?? haha)
Now I see you were redecorating!! (I agree the extreme white is overpowering to the eyes, but I guess if we're advocating CHANGE, we can't complain too much when it happens or where).

I see good ole' Lieberman has his weekly cash visit with Faux, but I wish McCaskill would spend her time somewhere else. After watching Orally with Barney Frank, I think it should be considered beneath any logical thinking person to appear on any program they have. As for Palin, she can't appear on TV right now, they have her sequestered into a room to read newspapers printed in the last 3 - 4 years. Of course, they'll have the special words circled and the relevant ones cut out, but what else should we expect. I would like to see Biden on some program today though. Oh well.... now that the McCain camp has announced (waving white flag???) they are going to go after Obama harder [facts be damned] I guess there's a lot of preparation for retaliation for Joe to do.

GOOD MORNING WORLD!!!

ot, put up some oooold david jones every once and a while

more ot, i may be messing up different sites, but i usually just hit your 'crooksandliars' graphic to get back to the home page (yes, you have two different ways to get there, the button in the blue bar below the graphic and the 'home' link under that) but just hitting the graphic is much easier

and actually on topic, nice to see out of all the guest from congress, there is only one who voted against 1424, blackburn must have been a booking mistake

EEK!! What happened to the site?? This is really hard on the eyes!!

Wow, with all the screaming about the "bright white" background, I guess I shouldn't complain about mine being a muted blue-gray. Now, if I can just figure out where it was on the damn computer that I made the change...Curiously, this color scheme is only displayed on this site and gmail...

Back on subject-- Joe Scabbucket? Who the hell values his opinion?

I totally agree fastfeat.... he's becoming increasingly as rabid in his rants as Orally.... I can't wait for Mika to reach across and knock the piss out of him.

If he wants to rant on his own show, which I don't watch (no cable), I guess that's OK.

But to assume he has some unique insight that makes him a worthy commentator on MTP (?) (OK, I just realized I can't scroll back up to see the original body of the thread...)

True, it is his "own show", but he's typical in that he speaks out of both sides of his face... what speaks... he goes into yelling mode or the disrespectful talking over the very people he's invited to be guests. Last week he was condemning the right for how they've been big spender, and then blames the democrats for the problem. {{oh snap}} what else was I to expect [slaps myself really, really hard]

If I am unverified, does that mean I don't exist? And if I don't exist, does that mean that I don't owe any more bills? Yeehaw!!

Here goes my first attempt at this new site design.

If this works, Good Morning Everyone!

Good morning POP. Am I ever glad that I'm not the only unverified this AM.I found a slight cure for the whiteouts....turn down the contrast before ya go blind.

I owe ya' a cup of coffee for that.... it took me awhile to figure out HOW to do it, so thanks for the education...

It is Sunday morning and I have witnesses who can verify I am me.
Will we have to answer that addition question each time we comment?

your concern

If you can't do the math, you can't post. I tested that yesterday. I'm still playin' around a bit with the new format.

Morning!

Looks like for the time being, "4" is the number of the day.

Today's posts are brought to you by the number 4. And the letter W for white. Also sponsored in part by the movie W......in theaters October 17th and the Wall Street money launderers. Scamming Americans since the early 1900's.
Coming soon to a bank account near you. Another FDR "New Deal" where Uncle Sammy will "confiscate" any gold you may have or throw you in jail.

A closer look at the life and career of John McCain reveals a disturbing record of recklessness and dishonesty

http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/233169...

The Maverick is nothing but a myth and 40-45% of Americans are falling for it

George Bush is the "Decider". He decided to botch two wars, shred the Constitution, and bankrupt the country. But you don't hear him saying he's the Decider anymore, do you? I say, stick to your name, instead of some cheesy moniker that's bound to backfire, at some point. Now Sarah Palin is a Maverick too.

See John McCranky is definiton 2 of "Maverick". The neocons got hold of him.

Ugh. Thou has cast severe pain upon mine eyes

baby jesus feels at home floating in a sea of white

Sorry baby jesus, I much preferred the old site design.

To post my comment, I have been asked to calculate 2+2. Sarah Palin, can you help me?

Wow! Well here goes, the white back drop is hard on the eyes so early in the morning with only one cup of coffee. I really liked the old format, not sure what I think of this yet.

In just his opening comment, Chris Wallace has already caght Joe-L in an out-n-out lie.

And Wallace called him on it??

What was the lie? What happened?

Lieberman said the McCain was focusing on "issues" rather than personal attacks, where Wallace pointed out that McCain campaign manager Davis has recently said the "exact opposite".

Obama: 273 electoral votes (270 needed to win).
McCain: 163
Toss Up: 102.

Uh oh. If it's coming from Fatfuck, I wouldn't trust it...

On MtP, Chuck Todd shows the same thing: "McCain must win EVERY toss-up state before he can even THINK about peeling off an Obama state."

I see a composite video in our future. :)

On FtN, David Brooks says, "McCain has to basically run the table, picking up every toss-up state that went for Bush in '04 to have even a *chance* of winning."

It's a consensus.

Guess that's why McCain camp is going to the innuendo and smear rumors for the rest of their campaign. Saw video of Palin give the old one on Obama's ties to Ayers during speech yesterday on CNN this morning. Amazingly the commentators were giving this some actual background.

According to Lieberman, the McCain campaign is sticking to the issues... a lie Chris Wallace caught him on right away.

PS: The new site look isn't THAT bad. And the anti-spam math question is ALWAYS "2+2". That's not going to stop a good Spambot if it's always the same.

I'm frantically trying to find what I changed in my settings a week or so ago that gives ME a soft blue-gray background here! As soon as I do, I'll let y'all know...

I just did it using the monitor's settings buttons. [thanks again concernedcanuck]

I like blue too!
Just go to internet options (internet explorer) and on bottom of window, you'll see Appearance settings - so just pick color you want there.

Okay.. this is becoming a computer course.... thanks!! that's so much better....

Bowie is greatness.

Rove: "You can even do it smartly and quietly (pulling out of states like Alaska & Georgia) like Obama did, or leak your intentions like McCain did."

Wallace: "Why did he do it that way?"

Rove: "I don't know. I don't know."

And still no Palin....

Palin: We will never see Palin on any of the Sunday news shows. Her job for McLame is raise money from the base and play the "fear the black man" card.

Todd (and Sarah) belong(ed) to a political group that wants to secedes from the union. And McCain is in bed with the gambling industry big time: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/28/us/politics...
So, America, what scares you more... organized crime and separatists (piled on top of the Bush cronies), or one tenured professor with a shaky past? Give me a break. McSame is brewing another distraction from the Troopergate report due out soon, and hitting the race card big time.

As for the new look, I'm kinda old (50) and the white space and bright blue subject headings really hurt my eyes, even with the monitor brightness tuned way down. Also, I can't read former comments when I'm making a comment. I usually scroll up a bit to get content right and stuff like that. Now you are asking me to rely on my short-term memory. I definitely don't like that. So imho, nice start with the redesign, but keep working on it. Thanks

It seems customs officials are investigating Lara Logan for scooping up stuff to display in her office from the illegal invasion of Iraq. How come Da Homeland Gestapo did not strip search her?

Sarah Palin says 2+2=4 as long as she is near an open window and can see those evil Russians a starin' back at her!

To get get rid of the blinding white background (in Firefox anyway)--

Go to Tools => Options => Content => Fonts&Colors => Colors => Background

Click on the colored box (probably white) to get a palette to choose from.

Uncheck 'Use System Colors' box.

Hit 'OK' and you (should) be ready to go.

Thanks for the tip. I can see again.

Glad to help! I'm writing it down so I can remember it as well...

My eyes say thanks.

I am on my baby PC (Linux) and the only Options I have under tools is for Delicious...there is no generic Options option. :)

Sorry Ms. Joanne--

I don't know how to help you there. I'm just a poor schmuck with a Toshiba laptop running FF.

Try sunglasses?

I should have mentioned that it is still Firefox.

I am running my very fav add-on CoolIris (page preview) and all the other add-ons work. I added Delicious but the only option I get is that for Delicious.

The white doesn't bother me in the least. I was just going to play around. :D It's what I do...computer nerd that I am. :D

White never bothered me before either. Actually had the white background for C&L (and everything else besides gmail) until this morning.

I'm not a computer guy--just a guy with a computer...

testing...my last comment died somewhere.

Whoops...nevermind. :)

While I am playing...

Teaser break...

Let's see what I see. Nothing...apparently only for the author.

add image...

nope.

"William Daley - one of the smear approaches is to smear Obama by association to Chicago’s historic reputation of political corruption."
------

Guess it works, but the plain text is annoying. SUCKS.

Great article, Ms. Joanne! How much traction do you really think Chicago-area references will get nationwide? Personally, I think little.

I still think that the real "October Surprise" will be a military conflict to distract from the current economic "surprise" that clearly is hurting Gramps.

If you mention Daley to people outside of Chicago, apparently it is seen as a slam.

I don't like Daley for some reasons but Chicago did well under the dad and now the son. This Daley (William) is so off the grid for most Americans - myself included as an ex-Chicagoan yet still current Illinois resident), it has to be the name alone which is considered a smear.

Talk about reaching. But that is what McCain and the goopers do. Lie, cheat and all that kind of stuff.

Yes, thanks for the tips, a pale yellow looks much better

Hey Dems!
Boycott Faux!

Hume is incredulous that McCain & Lieberman says "Discussion of Reverend Wright is 'off the table'. WHY is it off-the table???"

Maybe because they don't want Palin's wacky church becoming an issue.

Its only off the table when they are talking to the MSM. The McSlime machine will be running Rev Wright in their attack ads in key states.

Watching Chuck Todd take over the "electoral map" job Russert used to do has me wondering:

Will Todd replace Russert after Brokaw leaves after the election?

The guy seems pretty level-headed and coherent.

So my guess is NO.

When did McCain un suspend his campaign? And what happened to running a civil campaign.IOKIYAR!

DB

I love David Bowie and this was a great too see him messing around.

Those 70 million were a divided group: 50 million were hoping to see Caribou Barbie do something jaw-droppingly stupid; 20 million were deeply religious conservative Republican men with boners and hand lotion.
Both got what they wanted.

Whats catching my eye is everything is falling apart and basically no one gives a sh*t!

Kick back man!!! It will fix itself!

we're the laziest, most spoiled rotten, and deluded nation on earth.

help yourself out . dureing the comeing food riots please please take obama and mccains advise, EAT MORE ROAD KILL!

Joan Smith's warning in today's Independent:
http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/commenta...

I don't know that I've EVER agreed with Peggy Noonan. But, apparantly, she realizes that McCain is toast and is singing a very different, "honest" song. I couldn't agree more with the advise that she's giving to the electorate on MTP this morning.

PS a BIG thumbs down on the new format. John, I'm sure you put a load of work into it but you're looking like more of McSame.

I liked the old one better than this one, even if slower - I definitely like the content to be in the middle, not on the left, it is distracting at best, (a small complaint in reality, but important.)  I also agree the over-powering white being, well, over-powering, and it is not only over-powering - It is a real waste of energy - To understand that - Look up Google’s use of their “Blackle” screens --- Come on - yours is a progressive site do... something ecological.

But with that said about the new look...
It won't stop me from coming to your site with it’s excellent, and timely content.
