Sunday Morning Bobblehead Thread

Madeleine Peyroux singing "Don't Cry, Baby" and "Don't Wait Too Long"

My fellow C&Lers, it's Sunday morning again. Before I force myself to listen to the Beltway Bubble Bunch pontificate, dissertate, obfuscate, conversate, orate and altercate, I'm going to grab me a steamy hot cup of my favorite coffee and relax to a little Madeleine Peyroux.

Boy howdy, there's quite a line up for us today. A little for everyone, I think. President-elect Barack Obama will by on This Week, while they'll be talking about his presidency on The Chris Matthews Show. FOX News gets a double dose of Bush on the Legacy Rehab tour, with Bush 41 and 43 cozying up to Chris Wallace, while the big Dick is on Late Edition with Nancy Pelosi. Don't suppose there'll be much cozying up there. And if that's not enough for you, would-be Illinois Senator Roland Burris and unofficial obstacle Sen. Dick Durbin will Face the Nation with more of the "Will he or won't he?" foolishness. A wealth of political bread and circuses to be had this morning, doncha think?

ABC's "This Week" - President-elect Barack Obama

CBS' "Face the Nation" - Former Illinois Attorney General (and Senate appointee) Roland Burris, Rep. John Boehner, R-Ohio, and Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill.

NBC's "Meet the Press" - Comedian and author Bill Cosby, author Alvin Poussaint, Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., and District of Columbia Mayor Adrian Fenty and former Mich. Rep. David Bonior.

NBC's "The Chris Matthews Show" - Panel: Clarence Page, Kathleen Parker, Norah O'Donnell, Reihan Salam. Topics: Will Obama's presidency redefine America? What does Obama inherit from his four predecessors?

CNN's "Late Edition" - Vice President Dick Cheney and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

CNN's "Fareed Zakaria GPS" - Fareed Zakaria talks about the Israel-Gaza conflict and the possible repercussions.

"Fox News Sunday" - President Bush and former President George H.W. Bush.

So, what's catching your eye this morning?

that Gregory, Rove, Coulter, and Ted Haggart were having a weekend-long meth party and no one showed up at Press the Meat today. The empty chair gave a stellar interview and ratings were through the roof.

While the linked video touts a pre-President Bush that "never mentions attacking Iraq", here is my video of pre-President pre-911 Bush talking about attacking Iraq over WMDs.

Bush talking about "Presidential powers" with Brit Hume, chooses his words VERY carefully, but insists everything he did was "Constitutional".

Bush hopes the incoming administration doesn't "give up" all the added Presidential Powers his administration has added "that don't violate civil liberties".

He then goes on to talk about th use of "enhanced interrogation" and how it worked with KSM.

Brit Hume asks nothing but leading questions defending Bush and giving him a chance to attack his critics.

But when Hume accuses the CIA of "leaks" and having a confrontational relationship with Bush, Bush rejects the characterization.

Bush: "I plan on writing a book."

The subject? Apparently, he intends to correct the history of his presidency and "remind everyone" what life was like before 9/11 and what "needed to be done" after.

"A little for everyone, I think." There are Palestinians being slaughtered in Gaza in one of the biggest atrocities of this early twenty first century and yet the Palestinian point of view is not seen and heard on these Sunday talk shows. Fareed Zakaria being on CNN does not qualify as representing the Palestinians. So I would say that the viewpoints expressed on these programs are hardly indicative of opinions that would please most people let alone the oppressed people of Gaza.

Krauthammer on the pending bad economy: "in 6 months, it'll be Obama's economy".

Interesting, because after seven+ years, they were still blaming the current economy on Bill Clinton. At what point did it become Bush's?

FnS ended with a final round of questions with both Bush's in the Oval Office. Both Bushes talk about their "respect for the Office"... literally... how (like Reagan), neither entered the room w/o a jacket & tie.

That's about the best we could expect from them.

Paul Gogot on MtP: "Deficit spending like Reagan did on Aircraft carriers have a big payoff down the road. Deficit spending on green technology that won't create new jobs for years: not so much."

Talk about "ass backwards".

(side note, in all the discussion of "the recession Obama will have to deal with", there was NO mention of it being Bush's fault or how he got us here.

I was wondering if such question were declared "off limits" in advance, because it puts Obama in a very uncomfortable position.

But GS did indeed ask Obama if he would investigate crimes commmitted by the Bush Administration. Obama, to his great credit, talked about looking forward, but as GS noted, refused to say there definitely would NOT be any criminal investigations of the Bush Administration.

Clip-worthy.

but he seems reluctant to admit war crimes were committed ... the said "he believe" no crimes were committed ... how can he say that with Kucinch's 35 articles of impeachment again the illegitimate regime? Why is he over looking that? Pelosi claim the same shit ... then admitted she didn't bother to look at the articles ... so what's up with that?

Erroll's picture

Spirittoo

"So what's up with that?" What's up with that is that Obama and the Democrats are just as useless as the Republicans. Pat Leahy has been on record as saying that there will be no prosecution of war crimes by the Bush administration despite, as you correctly note, Kucinich having laid out 35 reasons why Bush and Cheney should at the very least be impeached. But Obama and his enabling colleagues refuse to do the right thing by holding the Bush administration accountable for their war crimes, their crimes against peace, their crimes against humanity.

It would appear that Obama believes in American Exceptionalism. As a matter of fact, Obama told CNN's Candy Crowley last summer that he does not believe that there is any reason to condemn United States foreign policy. His exact words from that interview: "No, I don't believe in the U.S. apologizing."

This is the person, this warmonger, that so many liberals and Americans had such faith in. I suspect that the Iraqis [where Obama wishes to keep troops in Iraq] and the Afghans [where Obama wishes to send even more troops to Afghanistan] and the Palestinians [Obama has refused to condemn the Israeli massacre of Palestinians in Gaza by the Israelis] would certainly believe that the United States, despite Obama's imperialistic viewpoint, certainly has a hell of a lot to apologize for.

Mugsy's picture

Though I don't expect any great number of investigations, you don't tell the current Administration while they are still in power and while you are working with them during the transition, that you intend to go after them for war crimes after you take office.

But, as I noted, to his credit, Obama did avoid falling into the trap of promising "NO" investigations, and therefore can't be accused of lying or going back on his word by the GOP later on.

Before everyone gets too excited, am I the only one that has noticed the stimulus package numbers on MSNBC? When the Dems and Obama first talked about it, the stimulus would created 2 million new jobs. Then it went to 2.5. Then 3 million. And now the MSNBC website has it up to 4 million! Man soon that stimulus package will create 100 million new jobs!
