Sunday Morning Bobblehead Thread
By Nicole Belle Sunday Nov 15, 2009 5:00amThe bad terrorist men are coming to get you! Oooga booga booga! Isn't it funny how Republicans have continually intoned they are the only ones able to keep us safe from the scary men, but when the Obama administration actually decides to try Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and five others for their terrorists acts, they turn--to a one--into the biggest WATBs at the thought of these Guantanamo detainees in a super-max prison standing trial through the American court systems. For all their jingoistic "We're #1" exceptionalism, these Republicans have remarkably little faith in our criminal justice system. And who better to represent these little p*ssified pseudo-toughs than Rudy "A Noun, A Verb and 911" Giuliani? He scored a trifecta of appearances, besting Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who only will be on two shows. Meanwhile, the Republicans aren't done scaring Americans about health care reform, and you can bet the Pete Hoekstra on Face the Nation, Newt Gingrich on Meet the Press and Mitch McConnell on Fox News Sunday will be amping up the rhetoric.
ABC's "This Week" - Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton; former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
CBS' "Face the Nation" - Rep. Peter Hoekstra, R-Mich.; Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt.
NBC's "Meet the Press" - Clinton; Education Secretary Arne Duncan; former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, R-Ga.; the Rev. Al Sharpton.
NBC's "The Chris Matthews Show" - Panel: Eugene Robinson, Katty Kay, Peggy Noonan, Michael Duffy. Topics: Will Obama Suffer Longterm Damage For Afghanistan and Health Care Delays? Will Sarah Palin's Book Tour Convert Her From Republican Rogue to Frontrunner? Meter Questions: Will President Obama Sign a Health Care Reform Bill This Year? YES: 5
NO: 7; Will Delays Over Afghanistan and Health Care Hurt Obama's Image Longterm? YES: 5 No: 7.CNN's "State of the Union" - Giuliani; White House senior adviser David Axelrod; Sens. Kent Conrad, D-N.D., and Judd Gregg, R-N.H.; Gov. Brian Schweitzer, D-Mont.
CNN's "Fareed Zakaria GPS" - Fareed gives you a sneak peak into the HBO film he narrated entitled Terror in Mumbai. Plus, an incisive panel discussion on President Obama's first trip to China and the most important relationship in the world - between Beijing and Washington.
CNN's "Amanpour" - Amira Hass, Ha'aretz "Occupied Lands" correspondent, and Aaron David Miller, former diplomat who served six U.S. Secretaries of State discuss peace prospects in the Middle East.
"Fox News Sunday" - Giuliani; Sens. Jack Reed, D-R.I., and Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.; Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
So, what's catching your eye this morning?

What is it that Newtie and Rudy bring to any discussion? They're about as relevant as Carrie Prejean and nowhere near as attractive. (Well, Rudy looks OK in drag, but...)
...regarding what you think of Rudy in drag. :)
(It is early on a Sunday morning, after all....)
I understand the fascination of Prejean.
I was stationed at a Navy base overseas. There was a woman stationed with us who was really very attractive, like Prejean, but horribly obnoxious, again, like Prejean. She also never shut up. She was so obnoxious, in fact, that we girls could't understand why any guy would put up with her. So I asked one of the guys, "How can you stand her?" And he said, "We don't actually listen to her, we just imagine what we could put in her mouth to shut her up."
Who cares what Rudy or Newty or other repubics say.
After a week with my computer in the shop for healing and two hundred dollars later.......I'm back!
It feels good to be back amongst you guys again. I missed you.
Bangkok Bob was here last Mon (?) and was asking about you. Didn't know your computer was down. He's at Langley teaching now, but has to go to CA for brain surgery. :(
Hope all is well.
I know that when my computer goes down, I go a bit crazy "cut off from the world" until I get it backup and running again.
Fortunately, I build my own and know how to fix them, so even in the worst case scenario, I haven't "gone without" for more than a few days.
Two weeks! Just the thought of all that backed up email is horrifying! :)
PS: If I'm ever missing from here for two weeks, call the police and/or start a search party because I've either been kidnapped or dead.
I bought four Mac G3 towers from Wincycle, Windsor, VT for $50 each. They run Mac OS 10.4.11 fast.
I gave two away as I added newer Macs. But those were well maintained and tested recycles from Dartmouth College. Highly recommend WinCycle, great folks.
I have ten computers, a few antiques to be sure, all Macs except for one PC which I wouldn't dare connect to the internet, but no cell phone or TV.
Priorities first…
There is one critical hard drive (at one time) with the STUFF, it would never go to a shop. If it dies, then I start on another from a backup.
I have gotten used computers, it is the hard drives that are the pudding, it is amazing what people leave on them.
I also don't seem to see Alice around much lately.
I just landed in L.A. a week ago after a grueling road trip through the fly-over states with my African Grey (and very talkative) parrot and cat in my car...
Nice to have your computer all spiffed up and speedy.
P.S. Ha! There you are Alice!!! I hadn't read all the way down to your post! Sorry I couldn't stop by Detroit to say "hey" on the trip. We headed straight south outta The Berkshires to avoid any nasty weather.
It's kinda fun to be able to just "walk out the door" in the morning here and not think about hats, scarves, gloves, coats, boots etc. (unless I'm just tryin' to look cool....duh.)
Abby! I am glad to know that you arrived safely in the land of sour milk and funny money.
I haven't been writing so much.
About the weather…
I'm so poor and such a conservation nut (and my furnace is OLD) that I wear hats and scarves inside. My thermostat is set at 55°.
That way it isn't that much of a shock to go outside. The older I get, the worse time I have with the temperature.
I am thinking ahead for peak energy.
If my house hadn't lost 70% of its value, courtesy of the Robber Barons, I would leave this burg.
Winter is not my favourite anymore, but I like having 4 seasons. I'd miss autumn if I didn't have it. That's the best part of the year (September through December.)
Asian summer heat and humidity is worse than winter cold, in case anyone didn't know. (I've never owned an air conditioner, nor do I want one.)
(Self-Delete: Fauci is never asked about "government-run" healthcare.)
to San Diego. Been good to be back in FL, but will be good to see my dog. Later folks; be good.
salute you, My daughter has moved to Solanas Beach and she is loving it. Have a good flight.
I will be in Orlando next week for my sisters wedding at DisneyWorld.
But I'll be back here in time for the Sunday thread. :)
Phew.... I started sweating until I got to the second sentence of your post. Phew (wiping brow with the back of my hand)
of the bobbleheads?? Not a damn thing. I'd rather clean my garage than watch one more morning of the same irrelevant idiots spouting nonsense.
Guiliani, Newt, Hoekstra, Noonan.......what could they possibly have to say? All they're going to do is lie and mislead in pursuit of their sick, twisted, dead Reaganomics. Who gives a flying rat's ass? It's too bad the MSM keeps trotting them out as if they had any value to any of us.
I know a few things, but how to clean my garage is not one…
I have tried.
thinks that this group of misfits is the BEST the Republican Party has to offer???
Had noted anti-semite and Hitler defender Pat Buchanon on this morning. I stopped watching C-SPAN months ago but for some reason turned it on today. I now remember why I stopped watching.
The last one was hilarious, the kid hitting pumpkin head with his bag of candy.
Almost as good as this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NijwK99OO04
That should be the official GOP motto since it works so well for them. They know haw to "get down" with the people better than our chardonnay Democrats.
People know that illiteracy is a problem. For the Republicans it was a solution for the first eight years of this century with Dubya's "I ain't got no..." delivery. But do people think of the damage caused by innumeracy? Americans are far, _far_ more likely to die of the American health care system than they are from terrorism. But where does the money go -- and who cares? Innumeracy allows many an evil to continue unnoticed. I highly recommend the book Innumeracy: Mathematical illiteracy and its Consequences by John Allen Paulos.
Well of course. The Republican Party use the stupidity of the American people like a brain surgeon cutting out a tumor. The Republican hierarchy take a dumbass middle/lower pay scale Amurcun and get the Amurcun to vote and demonstrate against his/her interest time and time again.
Rudy on FnS says holding the trial is "a terrible mistake" and that "the Obamer Administration is repeating the disaster of the 1993 trial."
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGoYOSomKLw
In throwing Rudy's own words back in his face regarding previous terrorism trials, Wallace misreads Rudy's comment ending with "we are a nation of law" saying "we are a nation of war." (if if heard correctly.)
I'm sure what he probably meant to say was "nation at war" but his Freudian slip was showing.
http://politicalhumor.about.com/od/election20...
It is the perpetual war machine, no mistake there…
...in this decade.
...no, its the "second islamic extremist terrorist attack" 9ui11iani says he wants to prevent.
Seems he would want to prevent any terrorist attack on America but I guess 9ui11iani doesn't care as much if the terrorist attack on America comes from a Christian extremist like an Eric Rudolph, or an anti-government extremist Tim McVeigh type.
See clip I posted below, for clarification. Cavuto, 9iu11ianai, KSM.
His former NYC police commissioner and his personal best choice nominee for Homeland Security Czar is going to jail for a long time.
Hope Hillary remembers to bring that up on the show.
Regarding the The Chris Matthews Show, has anyone looked into the accuracy (or lack of) his douchepanel's answer to "Meter Questions"?
Wallace asks Reed about "the obvious downsides" or trying terrorists in NYC, "including making NYC a target of terrorism once again."
Funny, because we were told for eight years that "fighting them THERE" protected us from having to "fight them here". Well, last time I checked, we're still "fighting them THERE."
Talking about targets for terrorism what do these dick heads think the new tower in the place of the old towers is going to be. Much more so than a trial.
Here's a question:
McConnell, Rudy, and every Right Winger is wondering "Why are we giving KSM the show trial he wants?"
Here's a better question: Why are we threatening someone that thinks Martyrdom is a reward with his "72 virgins" with the Death Penalty?
As long as we are denying him "what he wants"....
McConnell says he thinks he has the votes to get the Stupak Amendment in the healthcare bill because "Americans don't want their tax dollars going to fund abortion".
So, what about our tax dollars funding the GOP's healthcare, which includes coverage for "elective abortions"?
McC says "even Liberal columnist David Broder" questions President Obama's delay in giving McChrystal what he wants.
LOL.
These people are absolutely INSANE. Broder a liberal. I would think that Broder would punch McC for that comment. lolololololololol
Dick's fetid offspring is back on FnS this week.
Ohhhhhhhh nooo.
This certainly got my attention.
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/15/us/politics...
Thank, it is a stark reminder, as if we needed reminding.
Our government is bought and paid for. They hardly even make a pretense about it any longer.
Amazing that they don't see the disconnect.
While attacking Pres. Obama for "giving KSM what he wants... a place to spew his venom", she cites (in an accusatory tone) that "KSM asked, 11 months ago, to be executed".
Rudy said when KSM was captured, "KSM asked for a lawyer and be tried in NY." I doubt seriously that KSM knew enough about our legal system to "ask for a lawyer" or ask for a change of venue. Someone should fact-check that.
Addendum: Liasson points out the hypocrisy of "why give him what he wants [death penalty]? Kristol rolls his eyes.
Engineering in N/Carolina I think. He was here for long enough.
I KNEW they would try to make something of this.
When Obama met with Japan's Emperor, he politely "bowed" at the head upon shaking his hand.
They then showed footage of Dicky meeting the emperor: "No bow."
"Bill Kristol, what do you make of Bow Gate?" asks Wallace.
Rudy, you lost me at "Foreign policy had nothing to do with 9/11"
Oh come all yee faithful!
Which eye? First, second, or third?
If I'm using my third eye, it ain't for news. That's for sure!
On FtN, Hoekstra thinks the trial of KSM "could last 3-4 years."
And, like every other RW nut this morning, they all say KSM will use this trial "to spew his propaganda."
Do they think he will even be taking the stand???
Addendum: "Fort Hood" an example of "radical jihadists."
then that.
Public prosecutors have no financial incentive to drag a trial out.
OMG David Gregory just asked the Secretary of State about Sarah Palin's book!?! How is Palin's book possibly relevant to the Secretary of State? Why does Gregory have a job?
Steph-O just asked her the same thing.
You could practically see the steam coming out of Hillary's ears. What a stupid question.
And John King asked David Axlrod if the book is on Obama's reading list.
We have junk politics.
Here is reality:
John Pilger Obama and Empire here
All morning long, I've been hearing people cite Hassan having "Soldier of Allah" on his business card (Rudy said it on every show, twice on This Week in the space of a minute).
Actually, the "SoA" stands for SERVANT of Allah, not "soldier". But they like to say "soldier" to support their claim that a soldier going nuts after being denied a discharge was "terrorism".
The preview of Barbara Walters interview with Sarah Palin ends with her asking:
"Finish this sentence. Sarah Palin is..."
Oooh, oooh, can I answer?
"a stupid b!tch" springs to mind! :)
The bad terrorist men are coming to get you! Oooga booga booga!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yw0aoVpFCDw
Interestingly, George Will says President Obama "on balance" (iirc) is doing the right thing by trying KSM in NY.
David Brooks lays it right out there on TW regarding Sarah Palin:
"She's a joke", later calling her "a future talkshow host".
At least one right wing person can find the truth once in a while. I kind of like Brooks even though I disagree with him 99.9% of the time.
Son of Nazi Profiteer International Airport. Thought I'd grab a quick adult beverage here, but was informed that to get alcohol, I had to order food before noon on Sunday. Thanks, Texass.
Most disturbing site: The "Fox News Channel Store" in Terminal C. Aaargh!!
IAH ("Bush Airport" here in Houston) became a political football back when Poppy's son was crowned king back in 2001.
It used to be a "showcase" airport for the world, with its terminals where the planes are pulled right up to the terminal (no exiting via stairs on the tarmac) and it's underground electric train (which just celebrated its 40th anniversary.)
Sad to see how it has changed.
Franken's "Rush Limbaugh Is a Big Fat Idiot" in paperback. That, or any 'Plaything' mags with Coulter as a centerfold...
Maybe some Molly Ivans? They are sure to have that.
This caught my eye yesterday (which is today for you.)
How many untruths can you find 9iu11iani spew just in part one of this clip? I found tons. Fox, Cavuto, 9iu11iani, on KSM trial in NYC.
