This Week with George Stephanopoulos marks the passing of singer and civil rights champion Odetta, Russian Orthodox patriarch Aleksy II and heiress Sunny Von Bulow as well as one soldier killed in Afghanistan.
Per iCasualties.org, the number of service members killed in Iraq is 4,524 and 1,021 in Afghanistan. During this week, Iraq Body Count lists 199 Iraqi civilians killed.
This past week, and this week, local business owners here in Key Largo, got together chipped in to bring in wounded vets for some R&R, and at the pub I frequent, quite a large group came in.
And the owners had a caterer there hookin up the vets with fresh seafood and bbq.
And a friend of mine, read them a thank you note she had written hastily on a napkin before the band went on...
I thought it was pretty damn cool.
Sounds like there are some pretty damned cool people in Key Largo...but I already knew that. :)

Seriously though, occasionally, some of the locals surprise me, ya think they're just crusty ol' dive boat or fishing Captains and mates...then they go and do something nice like that...gives one hope in humanity.
They all have hearts, it's just that they don't always let them show.
