Democrats say they have the votes to block Bolton

via Buzz Flash:

Senate Democrats back from a weeklong recess said on Tuesday they were holding firm against allowing a vote to confirm John Bolton as U.S. ambassador to the UN...read on

The guy I'm worried about is Lieberman, but I've heard him say on Imus that he will not vote unless the administration turns over the documents. "In the article he does say: One of the Democrats the White House is trying to enlist, Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut, said he was sticking with his colleagues' demands for the information." I don't understand why he is undecided at this point.

Janice Rodgers Brown confirmed

56-43 was the vote. Frist is going on and on about how partisanship the democrats were.

A picture named Rumsfeld__NOrway.jpg

Rumsfeld's visit not only attracted attention from protesting political activists, international press organizations complained about Norway's handling of the event. Wednesday's press conference by Rumsfeld and Krohn Devold in Jåtta, the home of NATO's Joint Warfare Centre and Norway's joint military headquarters (FOHK) south of Stavanger, is closed to Arab news channel Al-Arabiya, Spanish news bureau EFE and the BBC's Norwegian correspondent.

Defense Ministry press spokesman Martin Lohne rejected criticism around the press seance. "We have simply given Norwegian media priority. This is a rare chance for them to pose questions to an American Defense Secretary," Lohne said, and added that all international media will see the press conference on live TV. Per Edgar Kokkvold, secretary general of the Norwegian Press Association called the ministry's decision to restrict admission rather unwise. "It is unfortunate if it creates the impression that the Norwegian hosts do not wish full openness," Kokkvold said...read on

As emailer Ole said to me: "It still blows my mind that the Norwegian Defense Dpt would decide to boot the BBC."

Its not surprising to many of us. I call it "The Town Hall effect" in play.

Policing your Own

"The lawmaker who will head a House inquiry into trips that lobbyist Jack Abramoff arranged for Tom DeLay has his own links to the lobbyist. At one point, Abramoff touted Rep. Doc Hastings relationship with his firm in a pitch to a prospective client.... Hastings' appointment to head the House ethics committee came after the previous chairman took issue with some of DeLay's activities and GOP House leaders removed him from the panel. read on"

Does anybody think that this is a conflict and Hastings should recuse himself? I do. Who thinks Hastings will let his previous relationship with Abramoff interfere with the investigation? I do. Does anyone think that the fix is already in? I do. Does anybody think this could be the reason that Delay wants himself investigated by Hastings? I do. Does anybody believe that the Republicans will do nothing about these ties between Hastings, Abramoff and Delay? I do!

 U.S. Customs and Border Protection

-Chain saws are OK!

BOSTON -- On April 25, Gregory Despres arrived at the U.S.-Canadian border crossing at Calais, Maine, carrying a homemade sword, a hatchet, a knife, brass knuckles and a chain saw stained with what appeared to be blood. U.S. customs agents confiscated the weapons and fingerprinted Despres. Then they let him into the United States. At a time when the United States is tightening its borders, how could a man toting what appeared to be a bloody chain saw be allowed into the country?

Bill Anthony, a spokesman for U.S. Customs and Border Protection, said the Canada-born Despres could not be detained because he is a naturalized U.S. citizen and was not wanted on any criminal charges on the day in question....

Are these people serious? I'm not sure I understand what the hell they are doing there in the first place. I know that if they catch you with a Cuban cigar they'll make your life misearble. A bloody chain saw I guess is less dangerous to our country than a Cohiba. Just looking at this guy's photo is enough to detain him.

In a joint press conference today, Bush and Blair were asked if they had "fixed the intelligence to fit the policy" as the Downing Street Minutes has shown.

I listened for the truth but never heard it.

NewsHounds has their view from FOX: Comment: No reasonable explanation given, just denial and patriotic-sounding babble. We all know, from Richard Clarke, that the Bush administration was fixing to go into Iraq even before 9/11. Hopefully Americans will start to see this mountain of evidence for what it is, evidence, and take action against the perpetrators.

The Tulsa Parks Board discussed a controversial plan Tuesday morning to install an exhibit chronicling the biblical account of creation. One man's proposal to add a creationism display turned the zoo into the backdrop for a heated debate.
News on 6 reporter Emory Bryan was at the meeting and says a new exhibit will go up at the Tulsa Zoo. It won the approval of the Parks Board, but not before several hours of debate over the philosophy of evolution and creation. Animals seemed to be the last thing on most minds in this standing room only meeting of the Tulsa Parks Board, even though they were battling over the zoo. At issue is Dan Hicks' proposal to add a creationism exhibit...

How does one nut job like Hicks win an argument like this? We're in the Decade of Bush.
