Al Franken and David Sirota talk about mercury pollution during March 22, 2005 'The Al Franken Show' radio broadcast

Al Franken said yesterday that companies "have no right to pollute...they should clean up their act."

Allowing pollution is a "subsidy for industry." It's not "free market enterprise" to let companies pollute, it's "giving them money."

The implication is that when a company saves money by polluting instead of upgrading to a cleaner way of manufacturing/transporting, the public pays the price a price in:

decreased health for adults
decreased health for babies
higher health care costs
fewer lands, rivers, and lakes people can enjoy

Al Franken was talking to regular guest David Sirota by phone about Bush's lax regulation of mercury.

Sirota said that top officials at Bush's EPA removed from an EPA report a study-about-mercury-from-the-Harvard School of Public Health.

The Harvard study said the benefits of tighter mercury regulations were 100 times greater than the EPA report did.

Madison man allegedly used Bible to justify rape

This perverted barbarian started molesting a girl when she was 11, telling her that the Bible said it was okay.

There really is a crisis...

Only it's in Medicare:

The two independent trustees overseeing Social Security and Medicare broke with the Bush administration's trustees yesterday, saying Medicare's financial problems far exceed Social Security's and are in urgent need of attention....read on

Think the Bush 60 day Social Security tour isn't based on ideology now?

Alan Colmes calls out Randall Terry on his past

A picture named Rand.jpg

Hannity and Colmes had on Randall Terry tonight and Colmes asked:

Colmes: Tell me if this is accurate about you...

Colmes goes on to put forth some truth about the real Randall Terry:

In 1989, he and his followers gathered in front of Boulder CO. physician Warren M. Herns office and prayed for the doctor's execution. In 1993, following the assination of Florida doctor David Gunn, Terry again broadcast a call for Hern's murder...is that accurate.

Terry: Alan, Alan..

Terry: Oh please, it's a bold face lie You're better than that.

Alan: No I'm not.

Terry responds: It's reported that you have been selling cocaine to children.

Hannity comes in to cut off Colmes questions, but at least somebody tried to call him on his history.

Here's some info on Randall Terry and here and here and here and here/ Is that a hairpiece I see?

Powerline has broken the GOP Talking Points memo-gate.

Here is their proof: "Finally, we got this email from a staffer for a conservative Republican Senator (they don't actually say what Senator): Regarding this phantom "strategy memo" about Terri Schiavo, I can say with almost complete certainty that this memo did not get passed out by Republicans: Nobody I know received any e-mails containing anything even remotely close to this memo. Granted, nothing I have offered is conclusive, but this whole issue really stinks of fraud."

Well that about clinches it my book. Ask a Republican if they received a damning memo that uses a horrible situation for political gain and of course that staffer will tell the truth. Does " I am not a crook" ring any bells? Also, is it plausible that a memo of this sort would be rubber stamped with the seal of an actual Republican Senator, or rather that of a radical religious group? I think they are pinning it on TVC?

Next up for Powerline is to dispute the authenticity of the audio recording of Tom Delay's claims that there is a vast liberal conspiracy to destroy him, and the conservative movement in America.

Rick gets 50,000 Volts

via DC Media Girl

In a segment last Wednesday on the program "Paula Zahn Now," for example, Rick Sanchez, a former local news anchor who worked for Mr. Cheatwood in Miami and who joined CNN last year, strapped on a device known as a shock belt - worn around the waist, it can deliver 50,000 volts of electricity to a person’s body - and then gave a simple command: "Do it."

Moments later, Mr. Sanchez moaned audibly, crumpled to the floor, and, still panting after being helped to his feet, reported: "It hurts. It’s painful. But no one’s dead."

Something is not quite right here.

U.S. bars Italians from examining victim’s car

ROME — The U.S. military command in Iraq has blocked two Italian policemen from examining the car in which an Italian intelligence agent was shot to death in Baghdad, a newspaper said Wednesday. Corriere della Sera said that the policemen were about to leave when the Italian Embassy in Baghdad received an order from the U.S. command on Monday to abort the mission for security concerns.

Will Jeb Bush try and kidnap her?

Gov. Bush Seeks to Take Custody of Schiavo

Jeb Bush and the state's social services agency filed a petition in state court to take custody of Schiavo and, presumably, reconnect her feeding tube....

The President has backed down.

"Meanwhile, President Bush suggested that he and Congress had done their best to help the parents prolong Schiavo's life, and the White House said it has no further legal options."

I have a feeling that Jeb will do something along those lines. In any case, the "Religious Elite" will attack judges like never before.

Trustee's Social Security report

Will our liberal media say that Bush lied when he said Social Security will be bankrupt? Will our liberal Media say that Bush lied when he said Social Security is in crisis? Our liberal media will broadcast lunatics like Randall Terry though. He's free to call anyone a liar he wants. Even John Fund thinks this guy is a wack job: Hardball : FUND: Chris, one of the worst decisions the Schindlers made was to retain Randall Terry, who has in extreme background in the pro-life movement. This is a man who is under court order not to go near abortion clinics. This is a man who has made many extreme statements.

House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer (MD) responds to the Trustee's social security report and says it confirms there is no crisis and that the President is delaying bipartisan action by pushing his private-account proposal. You can read the report here.

Fake News and the White House

Christopher Lee writes in The Washington Post about the memos the White House sent out last week, insisting "that it is legal for federal agencies to feed TV stations pre-packaged news stories that do not disclose the government's role in producing them."

Here's McClellan addressing the issue in his briefing yesterday: "As long as this is factual information about department or agency programs, it is perfectly appropriate," he said. In fact, he added, "I think agencies and departments have an obligation to provide the American people with factual information about their programs."

This is great advice for other countries to see how the U.S. manipulates the media and how they too, can get their message out.
