"Bernie Ebbers: #1 Christian Entrepreneur?"

Superhappyfun Blog

That's the title of this exciting article at Business Reform Magazine, the business journal of WorldNetDaily.

You may remember that Ebbers, the former CEO of WorldCom, was convicted on Tuesday of taking part in an $11 billion accounting fraud, the largest in U.S. history.

Well, this didn't sit well with Business Reform, who only two years ago had named Ebbers as their "#1 Christian Entrepreneur."  Let's see if they've changed their assessment of him now that he's a convicted felon (long story short: Sadly, No! ):

In introducing the original list, Business Reform did not clearly define the criteria, but seemed to hint that candidates needed to be professing Christians and needed to "have been recognized by the world as successful entrepreneurs - each had an idea, saw a problem, took steps to serve others in his respective corner of the market, and then did so in such a way that provided well for himself, his immediate family, and his progeny. Innovation, business savvy, and an attunement to legacy - each of these qualities was rooted in each man's faith and led to the success of both his life and the life of his company."

With the exception of providing well for his progeny (he's childless), I'd argue that Mr. Ebbers belongs at the top of that list!

Right, so as long as you say you're a Christian, make a lot of money and aren't gay, you have Business Reform's approval.  It doesn't matter that Bernie ruined a lot of people's lives, because the Bible doesn't really discuss proper accounting methods (which is why True Christians generally let Jews handle such ungodly matters).  Plus- he's not gay.Business Reform Magazine, the business journal of WorldNetDaily.

Undoubtedly, a few of you will argue that there's no way Bernie Ebbers should be considered a great Christian Entrepreneur. By the time you read this, it's possible that the jury will have returned a verdict in the government's case against Bernie Ebbers. As I'm sure you know, poor Bernie faces charges on securities fraud that could send him up the river for the rest of his life.

Ooh, poor Bernie!  All he did was bankrupt his company after lying to the Securities and Exchange Commission about his earnings!  Sure, his shareholders and employees lost a fortune, but nobody put a gun to their head and made them invest in WorldCom!  read on...

Upon signing the Schiavo Law, President Bush declared:

"It Is Wisest to Always Err on the Side of Life"

Bush has been criticized for overseeing the execution of 152 convicted criminals while governor, more than any other governor in the history of the United States. Texas's penal system allows the governor to grant a single 30-day reprieve for each offense -- which then Governor Bush did for but one death row inmate.

Since that time, much of the nation's capital punishment system has come under increased scrutiny for being unfairly and unequally applied, as well as being riddled with procedural errors.

So much for "erring on the side of life."

Ex-prosecutor says he kept Jews off juries

A former prosecutor's claim that he conspired with a judge to keep Jewish jurors off a death penalty case was to be the focus of a court hearing scheduled for yesterday.

Thou Shall Not Watch Movies on a Very Large Screen

For crying out loud

Several Imax theaters, including some in science museums, are refusing to show movies that mention the subject - or the Big Bang or the geology of the earth - fearing protests from people who object to films that contradict biblical descriptions of the origin of Earth and its creatures.

The number of theaters rejecting such films is small, people in the industry say - perhaps a dozen or fewer, most in the South. But because only a few dozen Imax theaters routinely show science documentaries, the decisions of a few can have a big impact on a film's bottom line - or a producer's decision to make a documentary in the first place.

[edit]

Pietro Serapiglia, who handles distribution for the producer Stephen Low of Montreal, whose company made the film, said officials at other theaters told him they could not book the movie "for religious reasons," because it had "evolutionary overtones" or "would not go well with the Christian community" or because "the evolution stuff is a problem."

Pretty soon even Devo will be outlawed because understanding "devolution" requires understanding "evolution."

Ann Coulter Spontaneously Combusts from Her Own Hatred
The Evil Kumquat
LOS ANGELES, CA: Conservative Columnist Ann Coulter erupted in flames Tuesday evening while filming an episode of Real Time with Bill Maher according to her publicist, Beelzebub, Lord of Flies. The mailrooms at the White House and Fox News were flooded with condolences as conservatives all over the world reacted to the news.

Hours after the incident, a visibly shaken Bill Maher discussed the incident for reporters outside the HBO production studio where the show was filmed. "It was horrible what I had to witness," sobbed Maher. "No one should ever have to suffer like that. I mean, a human being can only withstand so much torture. Fortunately it stopped when Ann went up like a bonfire."

Maher recalled that, shortly after she started angrily berating the liberals at her syndicate for censoring her usage of the term "dirty nigger", Coulter's hair started smoking then ignited, shooting flames several feet into the air. The studio was quickly evacuated while firefighters were called in to contain the blaze. Forensic investigators have already issued a preliminary report estimating that the intense hatred boiling under Coulter's skin coupled with the hot studio lights and flammable hairspray she was wearing may have created ideal conditions for combustion. Pretty soon even Devo will be outlawed because understanding "devolution" requires understanding "evolution."

Best Brooks Ever???

Vague Nihilism

This is the David Brooks column which attracted the attention and praise of Kos.
Wow, David Brooks rails against greedy Republicans like Jack Abramoff, Grover Norquist, and Ralph Reed. He puts a simple, easy-to-understand perspective on their schemes, especially Abramoff's plan to promote one tribe's casino by promoting a conservative white christian drive to shut down another tribe's casino wheregambling was occurring.

But, wait! Now that I re-read it... he hardly mentions any elected Republicans by name. Crooked people are described as Tom Delay's employees, but no elected Republican is directly accused.

Nice one, Brooksy! You've written an article that Democrats will read, thinking you're rebuking Tom Delay, and Republicans will read, thinking "Whew! He's not gonna cost us any elections! We can always move Norquist et al. into the background."

An older all-volunteer army The Next Left

Stung by a recruitment shortfalls and skepticism about Bush's war in Iraq, the Army is raising the maximum age of Guard and Reserve recruits by five years to the age of thirty nine:

The Army said the move, a three-year experiment, will add about 22 million people to the pool of those eligible to serve, from about 60 million now. Physical standards will not be relaxed for older recruits, who the Army said were valued for their maturity and patriotism.
The Pentagon has relied heavily on part-time Army Reserve and Army National Guard soldiers summoned from civilian life to maintain troop levels in Iraq and Afghanistan. Roughly 45 percent of U.S. troops currently deployed for those wars are reservists.

I am all for this idea, but I don't think it's going to work. How many 35 to 39 year olds do you know who want to drop their jobs and families to fight Bush's war for him? I know at least zero.

Possible Quote of the Year

It's Our Leader with a mouthful, after signing the Drive-by Veggie Act of 2005. He's just adorable at this point, no? Give yourself an irony booster and proceed:

"It should be our goal as a nation to build a culture of life, where all Americans are valued, welcomed, and protected..."

Unless you're poor. Or stationed in some country we invaded for no reason. Or old. And black? Who let you into this town meeting again? Um, 9/11 changed everything...

He and Dr. Fristy and Bugman Delay can choke on their own Santorum as far as I care. Cockroaches.

American Idol hits some high notes

A picture named AI1.jpgA picture named AI.jpg

Carrie Underwood and Nikko Smith smoked on American Idol last night. I've found that the singers have been inconsistent this season, but Tuesday's show was by far the best. There were other very good performances as well, but I particularly liked these two.

Helping the contestants was the fact that they had to choose songs out of the Billboard Book of Number ONE Hits, which limited some of the poor song choices that had happened in earlier shows.

The outstanding rhythm section augmented by a full string section and terrific background singers really helped kick the singers into high gear. While the contestants may not be as unique as Fantasia was last year (William Hung need not apply) at least so far, I think this season holds great promise the rest of the way and may very well contain the best overall talent of any of the previous American Idol's.

The Moderate Voice on the Shiavo Case

If you hear a weird noise tonight, it could be the sound of conservative icons Barry Goldwater and Ronald Reagan turning over in their graves.

Senator Rick Santorium basically now suggests the judge wasted his time ruling on the Terri Schiavo case since unless he had ruled the way Congress wanted, he was "defying" Congress.

Sanatorium's new argument is that if Congress passes a law, it is automatically correct even if it is a law involving a highly controversial issue seeped in all kinds of ethical, political and legal issues. Read this item for yourself:

"You have judicial tyranny here," Sanatorium told WABC Radio in New York. "Congress passed a law that said that you had to look at this case. He simply thumbed his nose at Congress."

And we all know that Congress and its members who are elected don't tend to pander to get votes while judges always pander to win over constituencies to perpetuate themselves in office. Or, wait...do I have that backwards?...read on
