(Anyone Surprised?)
We're delighted that The New York Times has today decided to take notice of Blogcall.org, an organization created by Progressive Bloggers as a way to help see their real stories and real exposés find their way into a corporate media which now consistently slants to the Right.

It is, however, more than a bit disappointing to see that their article on same ends up -- but, of course -- slanting so much to the Right! While their online version of the article links to us, it also fails to link to Blogcall.org or even mention it by name. But far more troubling, however, is that Glater spends well over half his ink discussing and quoting from Rightwing blogs and bloggers in his story!...read on

The NY Times uses Free Republic as the model by which liberal bloggers should get advice from:
"Asked what lessons liberal and progressive bloggers could learn from the experience of FreeRepublic, Mr. Taylor replied that while "I'm loath to give them advice," they might have to outgrow the conspiracy-theory stage of blogging to produce reports that are credible and relevant to a wider audience.

"In the old days of FreeRepublic," he said, "we had all kinds of black helicopters" and speculation about the effect of the Y2K problem. After the world did not end on Jan. 1, 2000, he said, "We tried to be more realistic."

I wonder if the NY Times remembered what Sean Hannity said about Free Republic: Hannity: I left that board in particular, and everyone I knew left, ahhh... because of so much childish, immature personal attacks.

Fun with

Deadwood

I decided to take an un-official look into how bad the language really is on HBO's series called Deadwood. The curse counter tallied 129, or what I considered curses (four words only) in roughly 49 minutes. Trying to count the curses actually made the show more fun to watch, and the episode went by pretty quickly. I jumped over to the PTC website before I realized that they don't rate HBO. I did see that Monk got a yellow rating because it uses foul language (son of a bitch” has been used on many occasions )

New study shows FOX is biased

Big surprise there.

Fox News was the most one-sided of all major outlets....

There are clear differences between Fox versus its cable rivals. Fox News stories contain more sources and reveal more about them than those of its competitors, but its stories are also more one-sided and are more opinionated.

Indeed, Fox journalists offer their own opinion in seven out of ten stories on the news channel, versus less than one in ten stories on CNN and one in four on MSNBC.

Stop Fake News

via Josh Marshall:

On Sunday, March 13th, The New York Times broke a major story outlining how the Bush administration has used millions of dollars of taxpayer money to produce and disseminate fake news programs that support a partisan political agenda.

These government-produced segments have frequently aired on broadcast TV stations across the country without proper disclosure.
Not only is this unacceptable, it is also illegal.

Fill out the form.

We see it all the time in Washington: if Republicans don’t like the rules, they try to change them--like the time House Republicans changed the rules so their beloved Tom DeLay could keep his leadership post should he be indicted in Texas.

Now a state senator in Nevada is trying to change the law to benefit her own wallet. According to the Reno Gazette Journal, Senator Sandra Tiffany "has introduced legislation that would allow her to run an online auction business for surplus government vehicles without obtaining a state permit."

Republican lawmaker, used care saleswoman—it’s hard to trust either one, much less a person who is both.

And now for something completely different.

Is Mansquito the worst horror movie title of all time?

We have other plans for Mansquito as well.

Church Shooter Said Upset Over Sermon

AP has picked up on this aspect of the story
BROOKFIELD, Wis. - The man who fatally shot seven people during a quiet church service before turning the gun on himself was on the verge of losing his job and upset over a sermon he heard two weeks ago, investigators said Sunday...But Frazier said Ratzmann walked out of a recent sermon "sort of in a huff." "Something that the minister said he was upset about. I'm not quite sure what exactly," she said....read on
The Living Church of God, based in Charlotte, N.C., places a strong emphasis on using world events to prove the end of the world is near.

Neighbors said Ratzmann built his own greenhouse, kept a well-tended garden and even used humane traps to free squirrels that got in the yard.

This is more evidence that his website is called carnivorous plants.

Dodd seems to have a firm grasp on the issue, and exposes the problems that Trent Lott and the Republicans have over Social Security. He easily explains a solution to Social Security without private accounts.

Dodd:...It's dead on arrival...It's not just democrats that you mentioned, there's a lot of republicans who will never vote for this, and that's why this president hasn't even put it on paper yet, will all due respect to a democratic proposal, where's the presidents?

If you just reduced the president's permanency of the tax cuts from over 11 trillion dollars to 9 trillion over the next 75 years, pick up 2.2 trillion dollars, you've solved the solvency problem..

Notice the rhetoric has changed now from the republicans. No mention of "we are in a crisis" and Social Security is going "bankrupt."
