Liar, Liar

From Media Matters:

According to a Media Matters search, Williams mentioned No Child Left Behind in only one article prior to accepting the money to promote the law in December 2003 -- and specifically praised NCLB in at least five columns since. In numerous January 7 TV appearances responding to USA Today's report exposing his contract with the Bush administration to promote NCLB, Williams attested to a longstanding belief in NCLB; for example, on CNN's American Morning, Williams said that NCLB was "something that I really believed in as a commentator, something I wrote often about." read on

Was Carl Bernstein booted off Hannity& Colmes?

In their quest for being fair and balanced Hannity and Colmes spent the better part of twenty minutes with Bernie Goldberg (a guy who has made his living attacking Dan Rather) tear apart Rather and CBS, Monday night about the "Rathergate "episode. To follow up, they brought in Carl Bernstein to look at it from the opposite perspective. I was really interested to see Carl debate Hannity on the findings from the 200 page plus report and discuss journalism in general. As soon as some meaningful dialogue began to take place, the segment ended.

Video

Hannity: What if John Kerry won because this became one of the biggest issues in the campaign?

Bernstein: What if John Kerry lost because of the Swift Boat allegations...

A few minutes later...

Colmes: We gotta split

A surprised Bernstein: We gotta quit?...

So, twenty minutes of Goldberg, three and a half of Bernstein. Do I believe he was booted, not really. Do I believe that his opposing views to Goldberg's was limited...you bet.

Clooney calls out O'Reilly!

George Clooney came out throwing right hands at Bill O'Reilly's vain attempts at criticizing Hollywood's effort in raising money for the Tsunami victims. Only O'Reilly can put a damper on a good function and try to turn it into a controversy before the fact. Clooney invited Bill to appear on the show and:

Clooney:" ..put your considerable money where your considerable mouth is." That's no small feat.

Video

O'Reilly's response:" I have to see what the format is," was a disgrace for two reasons. The first is that it showed how unprepared Bill was for Clooney to stand up to him; and second because it would probably force O'Reilly to align himself with the Hollywood that he so often attacks.

Moronic media

by Eric Alterman

"The biggest [scandal] in the history of the Universe," (Not)
In an interview on Thursday, Mr. Volcker said that the internal audits "don't prove anything," but do show how the United Nations was urged to tighten up its supervision of the program." There's no flaming red flags in the stuff," he said. The audits show, however, that United Nations officials repeatedly warned Mr. Sevan's office about its poor supervision of its own personnel and its major contractors. One Congressional investigator who has examined about two-thirds of the documents said it was clear that Mr. Sevan's office failed to supervise the program's inspectors. "They did not do their job," he said. The rest is here. read on

Could we even imagine a more moronic media than the one we have?

Armstrong Williams has a new Home!

Town Hall is a conserative internet site that is owned by the Heritage Foundation.

They printed his column today called My Apology. It's the same, lame story he has been saying the last few days. Funny, no mention of Rod Paige in his article!

Armstrong Williams: 'There are others'by

Mon Jan 10th, 2005 at 09:40:45 PST

The Nation's David Corn got the backstage scoop:

"This happens all the time," he told me. "There are others." Really? I said. Other conservative commentators accept money from the Bush administration? I asked Williams for names. "I'm not going to defend myself that way," he said. The issue right now, he explained, was his own mistake. Well, I said, what if I call you up in a few weeks, after this blows over, and then ask you? No, he said.

Until names are named, we can assume every conservative pundit is on the White House's payola rolls.

A videotape shot as a tsunami swept through Indonesia's Aceh province aired for the first time Sunday and showed a roiling torrent of dark brown water engulfing a busy street, picking up cars and minivans and sending people scrambling up the sides of buildings.
