Wow. What parallel universe does Dick Cheney reside in? "A serious miscarriage of justice"? Are you kidding me?!
Former Vice President Dick Cheney disagreed publicly with his boss just four times in the eight years they served together. Yesterday, however, on the first day after the official end of the Bush administration, Cheney disagreed with George W. Bush once more.Asked for his reaction to Bush's decision Cheney said: "Scooter Libby is one of the most capable and honorable men I've ever known. He's been an outstanding public servant throughout his career. He was the victim of a serious miscarriage of justice, and I strongly believe that he deserved a presidential pardon. Obviously, I disagree with President Bush's decision."

Libby has never had to do any time and he won't. He will have this on his record though. His sentence was commuted by bush. He still had to pay whatever fine he received.

During the trial Mary Matalin and others were taking up money to help him pay his legal bills. I have no doubt that others helped him with the other expenses he incurred.

Cheney should worry that Bush did not pardon Cheney for "possible" crimes while in office.
...that Scooter wasn't pardoned. If he was pardoned it would not be possible to incriminate himself during testimony, which means those mean ol' senators could ask Scootie anything their hearts desired, and Scooter wouldn't be able to take the 5th. If our congress had a spine, you would live in fear of this every day of your life.

i think we americans will be having to clean up this mess for some time...as well as watching out in the future for the next incarnation of this defective political ideology. until progressives and healthy americans understand what bob altemeyer and even john dean are saying about authoritarians we will be playing these ridiculous games til the cows come home. the world is swirling down the drain and all these guys care about is their reign and legacy. again, america and the world better get used to these attempts by warped personalities to gain power. nothing new to history, but have we learned what we are supposed to learn? lets start at least with naomi wolf's end of america to develop the model of right as opposed to the good-for-the- wealthy.

Cheney's right, Scooter should be pardoned because they got the wrong guy. Obama should keep Gitmo open for a few more years so we can keep Cheney there as an enemy combatant and put him under "harsh interrogation methods" to extract what valuable information he knows.

I would never have to see Cheney's name on this site again, except for an announcement that his evil ass was in custody for various crimes or that he'd been spirited off to The Hague and was facing trial there.
That said, I realize that we live in the real world and that he'll be saying stupid shit like this for quite a while. That's always the case... you can flush the turd but the smell lingers. Oh well.

I'm a true believer in karma and the karma that would fit Cheney is this-Cheney would suffer a massive stroke that would leave him unable to communicate with the outside world, he would require a diaper 24/7 and he would have to be nourished by others because he has no control of his muscles, and, the best part of all this would be that he remains in this state for at least 20 years!The only way to improve on this scene would be Cheney to be stricken AFTER he started serving his 20-30 years sentence for crimes against humanity!

I guess I don't believe in karma because Henry Kissinger is still rich and respected and apparently in good enough health. Beside, I know people who do end up like you envision for Cheney and they were good decent people. Where's the karma in that?

Jonathan Turly pointed out last night that there is no rule that says a President has to make Pardons public. For all we know he may have pardoned thousands in advance.

I'll tell you what parallel universe he lives in. He lives in a parallel universe where it makes sense to him, a man who has a heart condition and who know what other medical conditions, to help lift boxes during his moving. He lives in the parallel universe where the office of Vice President isn't part of the Executive Branch (or it is depending on the point of the question). I'm hoping that there are few people who accept his judgment as something worth considering, because if there are a lot of people who respect what he says, then this country is in trouble.

Libby made the ultimate career mistake. He tossed all integrity out the window to be a loyal soldier in the Bush Army, only to learn as many others did, that Bush throws everyone under the bus when his position is treatened. Bush (and Cheney) only care about their own survival, not the country, not their loyal aids, no one.
You think the guy EVER had integrity? Sociopaths don't DO integrity.
He's living in the universe where mass murders like him go free, and lowly buggers like Libby (who represented Marc Rich for 15 years and worked hard on getting a pardon out of Clinton for his client, so the right wing could use it as a club with which to beat us all for 8, 16, 32, 64 years on) go to hell for petty crimes in comparison.

This just amazes me how these thugs stick together. Libby broke the law but fortunately for him, he did not have to serve only a short time in jail because Bush bailed him out. If I break the law, I go to jail, Period.
Libby's loyal alright. You can be sure he outed Plame on Cheney's direct order. I'd be willing to pardon Libby in a heartbeat if the real mastermind was put in a cell for the rest of his life. How about Cheney in a cell next to Noriega?
