Letterman is still pretty bitter about McCain's snub and he sure didn't hide it last night -- especially since McCain is now trying to make amends. Here's a little mash up for your viewing pleasure. His debate spoofs are classic.

Transcript via LAT:

"So now, in an attempt to save his campaign, they’re talking about coming back. You see what I’m saying? So we said, 'Sure, we would love you to come back.' And even on the phone, he said, 'I’ll bring…Sarah.' But they’re being squirrely. Politicians can be squirrely. Because we have a date picked. We do this show every afternoon at 5:30. He wants to do the show at 5. So one –- we have no guarantee he’s going to show up, period. And we’ve kind of already rearranged our schedule on his behalf to save the economy, right? By getting that big-headed kid in here to talk about the politics. You know what I’m driving at? I just don’t know if we can trust him. And by the way, I don’t need to remind you that the road to the White House runs right through here."

Never, ever trust them.

Aren't these the Top Ten REAL Reasons McCain Picked Palin?

Good one Dave. Lesson: Never mess with David Letterman

"That one"
"Stinking corpse"

Damn, those were excellent for closure.

Get him Dave! I love to see people stand up to the right's bullshit!

"And we’ve kind of already rearranged our schedule on his behalf to save the economy, right? By getting that big-headed kid in here to talk about the politics..."

)O(

Not a bad comparison.

Both good kids with the deck stacked against 'em.

^^^^^^^

I have been reading about McCain...

1. Been on the gov't tit since birth
2. Born in Panama...not the US
3. Near the bottom of his Annapolis class
4. Crashed 5 planes including the one he got shot down in
5. He was part of operation "Rolling Thunder"...bombing civilians
6. Cheated on and divorced first wife who was "damaged" in accident
7. Banged Cindy while still married to first wife
8. Cindy is a junky
9. Member of Keating 5...the worst Senate ethics scandal EVER!
10. Said the war would be cheap, easy and popular among Iraqi's
11. Phil Gramm...enough said
12. Lobbyist campaign crew
13. Palin...enough said

John was a POW and a war 'hero'. Did you know that?

And that's why is his turn to become President?

Go suck an eggroll brother.

Wee need an intelligent man in the White House. Not this fucking senile ass hole. Be real. Dumm ass!

I think s/he was being sarcastic...

if anyone here likes Letterman.

Just don't care.

Care about your thoughts and feelings.

Only because I know that's what matters.

I frankly can't tell if McCain is holding town halls meetings or Klan conventions.

What more does he need to say than "I just don't know if we can trust him" to prove that this man is unfit for the office of the president?

BTW, I think he missed a few "my friends" in his montage.

You know its over... Over, I tell you. OVER!.
With a giant obama O.

Short answer: We can't
Long Answer: We really really really really can't.

The main reason this man cannot be trusted is self-inflicted - the ongoing daily flipflops (and I'm not talking about trivialities here, folks - I'm talking total 180 degree turns)....the fact that we've witnessed that his brain can no longer process information properly, and he's fully run out of steam.

What we're witnessing is the total breakdown of the Bullshit Express....all 4 wheels have come off, the engine is puttering out. McCain is experiencing his last days before our very eyes. The man will be lucky to have two years to live. (See Invasive Melanoma Stage 3b prognosis).

He's turned ugly and americans hate ugliness. He's turned violent by inciting others to violence (domestic terrorist?) and now he's running out of steam....his Sarah Steam....as Troopergate swamps the snow queen and takes her under about six feet.

RIP - SS McCain

This is the one that really takes the cake. His campaign has exonerated Secessionist Sarah "before the fact" - before the invesitgation is made public and he hasn't the foggiest clue what the testimonies of the witnesses have revealed.

Is this like releasing the ad "McCain Won Debate" two days before the debate took place?

Clearly, this campaign is on the skids now....they're getting dangerously desperate.

When a campaign exonerates people calling out death threats against others in public, then they themselves are "fair game" now to be called "terrorist enablers", folks.

I thought it hit desperation mode when it picked Palin to be the Veep.

I think you nailed it to the wall like beef jerky.

And now I know why! Love ya, Dave. Keep up the pressure. Candidates should know: you don't mess around with The Dave. And I agree with Dave: I just don't think we can trust McCain, either.

Dave is simply the BEST... period!

That was hilarious! David Letterman rocks. McCain picked the wrong guy to mess with. Hah!

You can TRUST McCain as much as what little trust you have on BUSH/CHENEY/ and the impeachment off-the-table Speaker Pelosi.

When can, Mrs That One, go in and measure for new drapes in the white house? Just perhaps twenty some days from today. We'll all be so fu*king excited if we can awake November the 5th and say, President Obama. All the smiles will light up the country even before the sun comes up.

He would be a good Commander in Chief. We no longer need a President as we enter the era of Martial Law.

Don't worry, there will be no Martial Law. Look at bush's face the next time he makes a speech. This guy wants to get the hell out of DC as much as we want him out. He doesn't want to continue dealing with the war, the god awful economy or any of the rest of it. He's eager to start on his speaking tours or whatever...any place where people clap for him and make him think they believe he's special. He needs some viagra for his ego and he sure isn't getting it right now.

His route to Paraguay has been short circuited since they elected a Liberation Theologian as President. Fernando Lugois, hated by the Vatican, hated by the White House, but loved by the people. Gee, maybe the Pope is a Nazi, after all...

I find it friggin' hilarious, that the ol' "don't look behind the curtains" cheerleading partisan crowd is still doing this feeding frenzy as the entire globe slides into economic chaos. Ya I know, Obama will fix the world if only he is elected. You people are going to be so impressed with the complete lack of difference this man will make. It doesn't matter if he or McCain are elected. Same crap, diff side of the coin. Just what is important to Americans? Partisan politics, or economic chaos. This isn't a blip people or a conspiracy theory. This is real. From what I've seen and heard, Obama makes great speeches. Oh yippee. Sure he's better than McCain, but so is a hairless dog. You electing that soon?

Wow, you are so angry. Maybe you need a little down time or something. What's bothering you so much?

We have to live with our decisions and we will.

I am angry Patricia. Whether through dirty politics, or fraud, or whatever, the past 8 years have caused this. NOBODY in the US has done anything about it. Nothing. The entire world did not laugh at the US when that piece of crap was selected again for Prez. We all said "what the hell is wrong with America?".....Not only is your entire economy crashing, but you are taking the entire globe with you. Does that not make you angry? Does it not make you pissed that all these more sensible, saviour politicians have sat idly by with their hands up their asses, shrugged, and said, nothing we can do about it? And now, the US citizens on this blog and every other is trumpeting around that when Obama is elected, the US will once again be number 1, stronger and back on top.......well, sorry, but the world isn't exactly buying it. The problem is not Dem vs. Rep. The problem is BOTH these parties has completely fucked up and continues to.

My Friend, check out this video before getting too excited about "both parties":

http://globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va...

That is freaking scary. Who really is running this global roadshow?

The mind boggles.

Ein Welt, Ein Bank

Canuck,
I don't think it's fair to lump Republicans in with Democrats. Before Bush took office, we had relative peace and prosperity. After eight years of one scandal or debacle after another, what we're suffering is a crisis of confidence. I'm thinking that will disappear come election day when we stop letting the inmates run the asylum.

Keep your fingers crossed!

I'll completely second that.

As most of you know, I live overseas, and travel extensively. This is how the world sees you: I've heard it firsthand, over and over again, in many countries. I'm not sure which part drove MsJoanne into such a dither, but obviously she doesn't take negative analysis well.

I'd like to know just exactly which part of your post is offensive. We've all seen the 8 years, and nothing but a few nastily-worded-letters to combat the WH/neocons, even while the Dems have had a majority in Congress for two years.

America is so broken and divided it'll take a generation (or two) to get back to any sort of normality. Until now, it seems there hasn't been much collective will to change anything.

Since you're not voting, why don't you STFU? Don't like our politics, feel free to go away.

Man, you are annoying.

Because EVERYTHING YOU DO influences the entire world. Quit showing that American bullshit cocky attitudes. Obviously the rest of the globe SHOULD vote in your elections because a majority there are too stupid to know how to vote. Example? Bush. Bush 2. Nixon. Ford. Clinton. Carter. Name one.......is my nation's voting as bad? Yes it is, but we don't have the entire world's life support on our hands.

that your Canadian ancestors decided to stick with the Crown? Just think of what your stupid votes might have done in conjunction with ours.

LOL

On that I agree with you AndyK.

;D

Shoot wolves from aircraft, much?

MsJoanne. I never expected such from you.

The problem is, we can't go away. We share a 4,500 km contiguous border with you, and you, as Big Brother, stare down on us, and meddle in our politics as a matter of course.

You'd think America was some kind of self-contained entity. America affects the entire planet. Your military bases litter the globe, your armies are on the march, Wall St. pervades every financial market on the planet. Dissent and you're likely to be hooded and hauled off to a secret prison to be tortured, branded a "Terrorist".

And for 8 years, as long as the good times rolled, many, even MOST, seemed to turn a blind eye. Shame on you!!!!

(Yes, I will still exonerate C&L-ers, as here the fight for honesty has been ongoing.)

... a hairless dog wasn't nominated by the Dems (not even close). Otherwise, I'd be campaigning for it, instead, 'cause (no matter how sad) you're correct.

(I appreciate the anger, BTW.)

Dave should let him come on, piss him off to the point of him going nuts and end his political career then and there.

McCainiyacs gotta melt down sooner or later. Maybe Dave can find the way to do it. Dave is sooooooooo smart! Jay Leno's a panderer.

To a degree Leno has to pander to McCain and the conservatives. GE signs his check and they're one of the biggest military contractors out there.

War makes GE more profitable. Don't want to bite that hand that feeds you.

go dave!

hey, did anyone else think that leno was a bit of a jerk to rachel last night? he acted like she was talking over his head - is he that dumb?
i understood her perfectly...

When a society depends on its court jesters/mimes/comics/pop culture denizens for a head-smacking dose of reality, then the question of the 4th estate's responsibility (courtesy of the citizenry via federal licenses to broadcast) to provide accurate and objective (however slippery that criterion) is on the table. Irony, parody and clever humor have their place but they do not replace open and unbiased reporting.

go dave!

Also it will no longer say"(not verified) after your name. Plus, and yes there is more, you will have more options on your "post a reply" screen

[Thanks, p.o.p.! Looks like you got the process down pat. :D Site Monitor]

i did register, a few days ago... all was fine then...
haven't posted since... awaiting new info from the home office...

Dave will do a good job as ask questions, and keep them under the radar. I trust him! Then Obama will go on and charm the country, well except for the nasty 30% tha is afraid of him.

John, when I brought this video up to watch it, I got an ad for "Yes on 8", the constitutional amendment about gay marriage here in California. As I type this comment, another one is staring at me in the advertising block right above this area.

I realize you need the ad revenues, but Yes on 8? Give me a break, hon!

Yeah, there are McCain ads and yes on 8 on Air America too. Well, we can get all pissed off or we can silently thank them for their support for left-leaning sites and for wasting their cash, cuz it ain't changing any of us!

Oooh, hadn't thought of it that way. Well, they can waste all the money they want then. Actually, we should click on them - cost them more money that way, too.

Turn on Private Browsing from the main menu, and all their cookies will be erased from your machine when you exit private browsing or quit.

Don't know how to do that on other browsers. I think turning off cookies, altogether, might void the click-through charges, though.

My Friends I've been saying this for years, "My Friends", and Sarah Palin is a Maverick Mustang, and she agrees.

Post a NEW reply

when the Post a Reply box opens, click the tiny little widget icon in the upper right corner of the box.

This gives you most of the options you desire but numbering.

...I still hate the new commenting. :-D

Thank you!

BTW, I meant a NEW POST, not a reply. :)

Would be really good. Being used to the old system, it's a difficult mental transition, but threads, as opposed to quoted comments, gives more possibilities, I think.

A default "Re:(X)" subject line would be great, too.

But numbering the threads gives a good memory anchor.

Those shouldn't take much.

To offer a bunch of sorting options would be great, but that sounds difficult.

Too bad McCain...made a small error and paid dearly.

As the old saying goes, "pay a little now, or pay a lot later". He chose the latter...

I love Letterman, but is he ever truly serious enough for us to trust every comment his is making? He jokes about each candidate, which is was fuels his audience!

Don't fall for his shit, Dave! Boycott his P.O.W. 'my friends' bullshit.

letterman has a point.

I think Dave is starting to make an ass out of himself with this

Is he and his show really THAT important? Give me a break!

it's ironic and irreverent. He doesn't take himself that seriously (I think...). Love or hate it, he's the type of comedian who believes one good turn deserves another.... and another.... and another... and another. He beats things into the ground unabashedly, and then, as you grow annoyed, he keeps going (until, surprisingly, it normally becomes funny again). I don't know, maybe you're already a fan... but, just watching his show casually you'll pick up on this quirk about his personality. Sometimes he'll just pick weird phrases and keep repeating them throughout the show/week/month/etc.

I haven't watched Dave in forever. I'm more of a Conan guy. I do know he runs jokes into the ground, however.

I'm against Mccain but a spade is a spade. Late Night is an after hours comedy show, and I don't see why any presidential candidate, on the brink of a crisis and the eve of a new Great Depression, should be required to yuck it up with Dave. I can see Dave being upset, but he's making a mountain out of a molehill, and is coming off as too self important in the process.

Maybe self-depreciation is why I watch Conan anyways.

He doesn't run jokes into the ground; they get funnier. I love his style.

McCain said he had to go to Washington to "save the cratering economy," and Dave said, "By all means go." Except he didn't race off to Washington. He went to Washington the next day, after "getting a facial" and "yucking it up" with "pundits".

For a "yucking it up show," I did notice McCain used Dave to announce his run for the presidency.

allright, now that's a much more interesting point.

but what were the real reasons for McCain canceling, then, do you suppose?

Jose. I think you mean self-deprecation.

Corrected.

I see you don't understand his humour. Not Dave's fault, is that?

Dave is irreverent.

so he doesn't really mean what he says?

I'll bet insanemccain is REALLY, REALLY sorry now that he blew off David Letterman!!

Anyone with a brain would have been able to figure out that its just plain stupid to piss Dave off. You have to question the judgement of someone who is so clueless.

Poor old insane made himself a target for Dave's ire for many months to come.
