Go Home

Grover, since you've always been such a kind and caring (translation: really creepy) American, I thought I'd help you out by further explaining your new talking points on health-care reform:

Over the August recess, Congressmen will be holding townhalls on health care. There’s likely to be a lot of spin and doubletalk from very nervous Democrat members. We’ve assembled a dictionary to help you wade through the rhetoric and understand the real impact of healthcare “reform.”

No discrimination for pre-existing conditions: \prē-ēx-sisting con-df-shun\

One can wait until one gets sick to sign up for coverage, and thereby game the system, costing the rest of us.

Also: n. trick, fraud, ploy

Also: v. cheat, dupe, fleece

Hey, hon, I know you know better than this. We all know the insurance companies have been using harmless conditions like teen acne as an excuse to deny coverage to a 50-year-old. Shame on you, Grover!

No exorbitant out-of-pocket expenses, deductibles or co-pays: \per-sŭn-al ex-pen-sĕs\

You can’t have a health savings account (HSA) even if you

want to keep one. If you want to save money on your premium

by having a high deductible, the government won’t let you

Also: v. coerce, coercion, coerced

Grover, I know HSAs are an element of Republican faith (see Golden Rule) but believe it or not, we have actual studies (done by people who aren't employed by conservative think tanks, so they might be true!) showing people delay needed care because of high deductibles and co-pays - leading to more complicated, serious illness. Not that you care.

No cost-sharing for preventive care: \prē-ven-tĭv kâr\

An unelected and unaccountable government board of bureaucrats will decide what procedures must be first-dollar, even if you don’t value them

See: arbitrary price inflation

Oh Grover, I know that "bubble" elites like yourself just don't understand: Unelected and unaccountable INSURANCE bureaucrats are making those decisions right now - and people are dying as a result.

No dropping of coverage if you become seriously ill:

\ ĭn-shûr-əns kŭv-ər-ĭj\

This only happens in Helen Hunt movies, but Congress will demagogue it anyway to scare us.

See: global warming hysteria, cap-and-trade

Really, Grover? It only happens in Helen Hunt movies? Are you calling a CIGNA VP a liar? Rescission is a well-known insurance industry practice. You know better.

No gender discrimination: \jen-der dee-scrim-in-a-shun\

You’ll be forced to have your tax dollars pay for abortion and other things you disagree with. You’ll also be forced to purchase a plan which covers abortion on demand for all nine months

See: conscience clause

First of all, Grover, for the past eight years, I've had to pay for all kinds of things I disagree with: A trumped-up war, torture, tax breaks for the top one percent... Normally, I'd say, hey, the other guy won and he gets to do what he wants, but I'm pretty sure your guy stole the election with help from the Supreme Court.

And the part about "abortion on demand"? That's an outright lie, and you know it. At this point, it looks like abortion won't be covered at all. But you just don't care, because you'll push any button that works to keep your corporate overlords from losing this fight.

No annual or lifetime caps on coverage: \kăps\

Congress will tell insurance companies how they have to price their coverage and determine risk

See: arbitrary price inflation

You're right on this one, Grover. No more people denied expensive, life-saving cancer treatment because they were also in a bad car accident 20 years earlier. Boo hoo.

Extended coverage for young adults: \əx-stən-dəd kŭv-ər-ĭj\

1.“Children” up to age 30 will be able to stay on their parents’ insurance at taxpayer expense

2. Inculcating the culture of entitlement and preening a generation of welfare-dependents

See: slackers, mom’s basement

Actually, Grover, you may not know this but there's a major unemployment crisis outside that privileged bubble in which you live. Many of these young adults are so desperate to find work and pay their school loans, they're taking minimum wage jobs with no benefits. It would be nice to know that if they get sick, they won't have to die to impress people like you.

Guaranteed insurance renewal so long as premiums are paid: \gâr-ŭn-tēd ĭn-shûr-əns\

Another red herring that Congress will use to scare people into adopting government medicine

Also: scare tactic

See above for "rescission."

God, I can't stand this greedy pig.

Buy unlimited wealth at any expense is the dream ......... you hate the troops .........

RobertD's picture

Boy howdy.

Don't you just love people who think what's good for them (and their wealthy friends) is better than what helps everyone?

Norquist is a great example of why California is so fucked up today.

And where CA goes the US follows ......... it's systemic of the country.

Norquist and his ilk just have the whole Leona Helmsley attitude - "Only the little people pay taxes". It annoys the shit out of me.

I hate to have to say this but this guy has no redeeming qualities. Scum.

The government already spends my tax dollars on things I don't approve of like faith based programs and wars.

as a gift to those commentators and those for having one of the best sites for a politically exhausted American to find decent people and comments providing comic relief in such an ugly world of hatred and derision:

http://kenyanbirthcertificategenerator.com/ So YOU TOO can run for President of Murki-stan!

You too can become the spawn of bible thumpin'banshees, neo-con racist incubi and GOP homophobic orks with a brand new birth certificate printed out right on your boss's printer or at home!

And if I were a Dem congressman, I'd have a couple of these kinds of testimonies from people in my district to open any town hall meeting. To stress what's really at stake, and see if Tea Baggers would go after them....

People like Norquist and Limbaugh (one the theoretician the other the mouthpiece) are the reason why the Republican party always ends up shooting itself in the foot when it gets power.

Unfortunately, they do a hell of a lot of damage before then.

There are Americans who disagree with blood transfusions, plastic surgery, breast reductions, and heart transplants.

But who needs THOSE, right?

Oh god no,

Not breast reductions!!!

“Propaganda must always address itself to the broad masses of the people. (...) All propaganda must be presented in a popular form and must fix its intellectual level so as not to be above the heads of the least intellectual of those to whom it is directed. (...) The art of propaganda consists precisely in being able to awaken the imagination of the public through an appeal to their feelings, in finding the appropriate psychological form that will arrest the attention and appeal to the hearts of the national masses. The broad masses of the people are not made up of diplomats or professors of public jurisprudence nor simply of persons who are able to form reasoned judgment in given cases, but a vacillating crowd of human children who are constantly wavering between one idea and another. (...) The great majority of a nation is so feminine in its character and outlook that its thought and conduct are ruled by sentiment rather than by sober reasoning. This sentiment, however, is not complex, but simple and consistent. It is not highly differentiated, but has only the negative and positive notions of love and hatred, right and wrong, truth and falsehood.” – Adolph Hitler from Mein Kampf

Tampa, Florida - Angry protesters and strong supporters are clashing inside and all around a health care reform town hall meeting in Downtown Tampa. The meeting which was scheduled to begin at 6:00 at the Children's Board of Hillsborough County drew hundreds of people who quickly began to overwhelm staff and event organizers at the front entrance.

Anticipating problems at health care forums, Florida Democratic Party Chair Karen Thurman released the following statement today:

"Throughout the summer, we have been reaching out to Floridians to engage in an important debate on the future our health care system. We have heard story after story from people who are struggling to get the care they need. "Recently, their thoughtful discussions are being interrupted by angry mobs - well funded and organized by Washington special interests - attempting to drown out the voices of the hard-working Floridians who are desperate for health insurance reform. These groups are not concerned about Americans' access to quality heath care, but are extreme ideologues, only interested in 'breaking' the President and thwarting the change Americans voted for last November."

Some stuff you can't make up!

But Glenn Beck just keeps getting crazier. In the middle of a debate on health care, he actually say that the government mandates that schools teach girls that they can have as many babies as they want and to not listen to their parents.

I swear. Here is the clip.

Any doubt (any?) that Limbaugh hasn't completely flipped was disspelled by his rant today comparing Obama to Hitler. Not the first time,of course, but this one was so really wacko.

Any Limbaugh fans here? Come on, defend your idiot.

He's fat, he's a drug addict, he's a liar...oh wait you said defend him. He's got more money than me.

You know at some point he is going to lose it on air, and he will start going off on his ditto heads like "I am Rush Limbaugh bitch!"

;-) My apologies to Chapelle, and his show...

You can also obviously see the look of contempt and disgust on his face when speaking of poor people. I really hope one day he needs a helping hand, one not influenced by cash or personal gain, and he is left to rot in his own greed, his fellow human putting no value on his life. I hope sometime in my life I get to universally see people like this treated exactly the way they deserve to be treated, less than human.

an attitude like that puts you on the same page as Grover, morally speaking, glorying in the misery of others.

The Republican Party is the permanent majority for the future of this country. We're going to lead this country in the direction that we've been dreaming of for years."

Tom Delay, November 2004

"Once the minority of the House and Senate are comfortable in their minority status they will have no problem socializing with the Republicans. Any farmer will tell you that certain animals run around and are unpleasant. But when they are "fixed" they are happy and sedate. They are cheerful and contented."

Grover Norquist, November 2004

How's it feel NOW, Grover, you piece of crap? Looks like the solution for you, your dysfunctional party and the Bugman is exactly what you suggested---castration. Maybe then you and your ignorant supporters will be "cheerful and contented" and we can start to have civil discussions again.

"We will find fulfillment not in the goods that we have, but in the good we can do for each other."

Robert F. Kennedy

MtnWoman's picture

That's why they're pushing HSA's. The LA Times did an article on it. The feds classified Wellpoint's main business as financial services:

Wellpoint last year convinced the Federal Reserve Board that its primary business is financial services and that pharmacy services and disease management are "complementary" to its financial services business. The company reached an agreement with the Federal Reserve Board that would allow it to open a bank, while limiting annual revenue from pharmacy services and disease management to 15% -- triple the limit initially set by the agency.

Why are they doing this?

In 2003, federal tax rules were relaxed for HSAs, "making them very attractive to well-heeled taxpayers," and commercial banks, "seeing the opportunity to collect management fees on the accounts, jumped into the business." John Casillas -- director of the Medical Banking Project, which helps medical administrators develop financial service systems -- said, "You're going to see many billions of dollars moving from premium payments to professionally managed investment funds under HSA rules. Some people think that banks are going to threaten health plans by replacing them in the marketplace." As a result, health insurers have been starting their own banks.

http://articles.latimes.com/2008/oct/22/busin...

That someone would have the balls to be out there defending greedy, pig-like behaving insurance companies is sickening enough to warrant a look into that person's morals.

Finding out that that person is Grover Norquist makes perfect sense. He has no morals.

i had never seen/heard this guy issue the vomit directly from his mouth. except for last nite on Penn & Teller's Bullsh** show. They did a show on taxes. and I used to like this show when they would call out people's BS. But now it's just a show to promote how they feel about issues. Not once did I hear the words "BS" in the episode. and there was BS spilling everywhere, especially from their extensive interviewing of grover. this guy talks like a whiny bitch.
