Republican Jobs Bill: Harder, Longer, Faster!

lapdancer_a1dd4.jpg

Remember: If at first you don't succeed, just do it a lot harder the next time!

Come on, admit it. You're surprised, aren't you? I am, too -- that during this devastating recession, the Republicans still have the cojones to offer public lap dances to their wealthiest contributors:

After opposing, stalling, stonewalling and filibustering almost every recession-related bill for the past year, Republican lawmakers have finally proposed a jobs plan of their own: a bigger, more expensive version of George W. Bush's tax cuts for the rich.

The Economic Freedom Act of 2010 -- introduced by Reps. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) -- proposes deep tax cuts favoring the wealthiest in America, a reduction in regulatory oversight and the elimination of a federal tax on the estates of millionaires, which will allow wealthy investors to escape taxes entirely on a significant portion of their income.

Republicans say the bill will create jobs where President Obama's policies have failed to do so.

"The multi-trillion dollar government stimulus programs and taxpayer-funded bailouts have failed," reads the bill's official press release. "A growing private sector economy is the only 'stimulus program' that will create the jobs needed to restore America's economic strength."

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said in a conference call on Tuesday that the GOP's proposal will not only fail to stimulate job growth, but will triple the deficit by 2015 and devastate an already-shrinking American middle class.

"The tax cuts they want to give, as usual under Republican policies, will give 62 percent of the tax cuts to the top 1 percent of Americans," Hoyer said. "Or said another way, an average $467 tax cut to working Americans in the middle of the income levels, and to the top 1 percent earners, an average of $157,000 tax cut, and to Goldman Sachs, $2.6 billion in tax cuts. When you analyze that, you know what is happening is the same old Bush policies of advantaging the wealthy at the expense of the middle income working people and tax cuts which did not, as they were advertised to, grow the economy and grow jobs. In fact, they did just the opposite."

Michael Linden, associate director for tax and budget policy at the Center for American Progress Action Fund, said the Republican proposal is "unaffordable on a level we've never seen before."

"The multi-trillion dollar government stimulus programs..."

Hey, where's that shit at? Gimme some of that!

Or, do you mean the two endless wars?

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

Joseph Goebbels

“The greatest evildoers are those who don’t remember because they have never given thought to the matter, and, without remembrance, nothing can hold them back,”

dfetter's picture

Here's the (translated) piece from Mein Kampf that Hitler actually wrote:

All this was inspired by the principle--which is quite true within itself--that in the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying.

—Mein Kampf, vol. I, ch. X

Googling Goebbels quotes....must be Nazism for Dummies. Thanks for the authentic version. Now I won't have to read the book.

Source: Debt Commission Fights Over Freezing Military Pay, Slashing Benefits

Republicans would like you to think that Democrats have sinister plans for the post-election lame duck session of Congress, and Democrats are at pains to insist otherwise. But the one winter initiative progressives fear most is being crafted off the Hill by the White House's National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform. Though most of the commission's work occurs behind closed doors in small working groups, early reports indicate that the GOP's unwillingness to support any significant tax increases are pushing the group toward proposed entitlement slashes and larger budget cuts.

And while Americans might expect that the commission would look at all spending, some members are seemingly using their positions to advance professional interests. A source familiar with the proceedings of the working group on discretionary spending tells TPM that some commissioners, including one military contractor, would prefer to save money by freezing military pay and scaling back benefits, rather than by eliminating waste in defense contracting.

The source said that different members of the commission come down on different sides of the issue. The discussion group is led by Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK), whose primary aim is trimming fat on the contractor side, but, according to the source, David Cote, the Honeywell CEO who was appointed to the panel by President Obama, is pushing to find savings elsewhere.

"Coburn raised concerns about all of the cost overruns and redundant weapons system," the source told TPM. "Cote made excuses for it all."

According to the source, Cote and other members, including the commission's co-chair Alan Simpson, are focusing instead on "freezing military pay, making military people pay for their health care."

"I don't think there's a division anywhere, and I don't think you can pick up that sentiment, because I certainly haven't," Coburn told TPMDC yesterday. "Nothing's off the table."

On mandatory spending issues, according to the aide, things are shaping up similarly. "We spent all but 10 minutes on benefits cuts and spent 10 minutes on raising the wage caps." Though tax hikes aren't gaining traction, the group is discussing ways to close loopholes, end exemptions, deductions, credits, etc. to limit tax expenditures.

Cote was not immediately available for comment through Honeywell's corporate offices.

The commission's report is due by December 1. House Democrats have committed to voting up or down on the package if the Senate passes it first

When I read the title of the post and saw the picture, I thought republicans were offering lap dances for votes. I probably shouldn't give them any ideas, huh?

Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.

And there's no better way to impress your voters that you are one of them than to let them see you in your Mercedes convertible limo snorting coke off of someone's penis, taking you to your personal jet that they suffered to buy you.

The middle class are on their way out and onto the low middle class demographic. Why? because of the wonderful global economy strategy brought on by Wall Street and the global elites. The corporations and the global elite want to level the playing field with the likes of China and India...(.70 cents an hour). They can't resist the "cheap" labor and the foreign government subsidizing/deregulation.These same corporations and global elite threaten law makers/communities that they will leave unless they get what they want. Now the job cycle is employer dominated/ruled......so now many will work 'harder...longer...faster' for less. all the while we spiral into this japan like deflation cycle. We need a heavy value taxation... a return to education and less propaganda about "protectionism"........our so-called "free market" is not so free. The republicans in my view have little interests in protecting anything in this country. They need to realize this trickle down theory is dead.

For what it's worth I saw Greenspan and one of Reagan's top economic advisers on the tube yesterday , even they said the Bushlerite tax cuts did not and will not create jobs that they only worsen the deficit and should be eliminated . The Repugs are as usual full of crap .

Insanity , it is what it is , there is no understanding it .

Greenspan admitted years ago that everything he had believed in for decades was wrong. I guess that part should be played over and over, in that "liberal" media of yours.

Ron Paul couldn't and won't get elected to the highest office in the land. So corporations don't donate money to a candidate with no chance. Corporations play both sides.......... McCain received plenty. Anyone getting elected into the oval office will receive mucho donations from the corporations. we the people have been priced out of the system. personally, i feel many corporations want obama to fail.

And teabaggers want to ensure that nothing can compare in strength to the corporations, least of all the government. which creates the very regulations that keep them in check, as long as conservatives are out of office giving them tax breaks, and lack of regulatory oversight through underfunding and undermanning.

In other words, teabaggers are trying to say they're against big corporations by creating the very context in which the corporations just get bigger.

Teabaggers: Corporate Viagra.

Funny, he never heard of Clinton's Budget Deficit Reduction Plan..but I digress..He also couldn't tell me one thing, NOT one thing the republican'ts will do to create jobs and when confronted with the unpaid tax cuts, couldn't believe:
*that every dollar of the unpaid for bush tax cut reaps $.32 (losing proposition)
*that every dollar spent on social programs reaps $1.60 or more
*the current President and his economic advisors aren't socialists.
*etc. It went on and on and on..you can't argue with people who, when you tell them snow is white, won't believe you! Idiots.

Given the amount of ammunition the GOP is handing to the Democrats, you'd think they were actively committing ritual suicide, not trying to get back into power.

only a fool or someone very ignorant or in very deep denial would call this a recession.

americans these media outlets will not tell you what is really going on as they rely on corp ads.

this is the decline of wealth of a nation and dont expect your politicans or your media to tell you this.

every nation that has gone through a decline of wealth has been in denial and the citizens are not told these truths.

corp fascism has come to america even on the net.

$$$$$$$$$$$$

now thank the unverse that this nation is going thru a decline of wealth and is self destructing.

what would the universe be like if a capitalist nation like america deep into corp greed and imperialism and even some out and out war mongering cheney style did not self destruct?

what indeed would it be????????
