SNL goofs on FOX News coverage of DADT

SNL mocks FOX News again which is always a good thing. This time they highlight the coverage of the possible repealing of DADT.

I love the "hot blonde chick" and Karl Rove characters. Teh odious Oliver North and Palin stalker, Greta are always welcome characters for a parody.

David and I scanned through Fox News last night and surprisingly, Glenn Beck, Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity and Greta Van Susteren didn't mention the very controversial and pro-corporatist Citizens Untied ruling by the Supreme court. Not a word. It reminds me of how they pretty much ignored the Haiti earthquake.

Bret Baier's "All Star Panel" discussed it with Charles Krauthammer and Fred Barnes loving it, while Mara Liaisson admitted that the ruling would benefit Republicans in 2010 and 2012 because corporations have much more money than the labor unions.

Shepard Smith had a short report on it that just recapped the decision and added a few sound bites from Chuck Schumer and Mitch McConnell.

But it's really clear that while the big opinionators loved the ruling off air -- because now corporations are being viewed as individuals who have the freedom to pour tons of money into the political system, a fact that will heavily favor conservatives -- they must understand that Americans will not love this ruling, because it gives Big Corp an even more unfair advantage in our election process. Americans are fed up with the influence these money-changers and powermongers have on the process.

How can they defend this ruling when they have been promoting a phony right-wing populism? If the teabaggers are truly as opposed to corporate power as they claim, they logically would hate this ruling. Or will their producerism overwhelm them?

Greta and McCain on waterboarding

Why is it that wingers like Greta still need to ask if waterboarding is torture? Enhanced interrogations are code for torture, but we know that. I guess my brain is getting scrambled by having to watch FOX News constantly try and denounce waterboarding as not really being torture. It's enhanced, it just tastes a little better than before.

Greta: Is waterboarding torture or enhanced interrogation techniques, what words do we use on this?

McCain: It's torture. It's in violation of the Geneva Conventions of the international agreement on torture treaty...singed during the Reagan administration. It goes all the way back to the Spanish Inquisition. It's not a new technique and it is certainly torture.

Did Greta really believe she would get McCain to change his mind on this? Maybe she thought she could break him. Then they get into all the national security stories of the week. Greta wants all the documents released about Cheney and Pelosi and that's when McCain starts wanking along...

At least she brought up Graham rebuking the CIA. McCain is worried about the morale of the CIA? Are they really that weak-kneed? I doubt it, but it's a useful talking point against Pelosi because the media will never say, "hey, these guys are out their in covert world, why would they care what a politician said."

TDS always has a good time taking apart the media so Monday night Jon took a look at the media covering the hurricane.

I had missed Sheppard Smith being blown down last week and it looked like FOX was very happy to keep that camera rolling on him when they saw he was going down. The TV went from a split screen with Greta to a single shot on Shep as he was bowled over. Stewart doesn't miss Cooper or Rivera either. JABBS has the transcript of what went on after this video portion. Watch out for Roboshep.

Bill O'Reilly can't be wrong; she's gotta be crazy!

We all know that Bill is never wrong and never stretches the truth, so when Bill asked Greta if the police had any clues about who had taken the woman, because it was obvious that she was the victim of a crime, and was most probably dead. We all figured that must be the case. Right?

Well Jennifer Wilbanks is not a victim of a crime or dead, so Bill had to come up with something to cover his butt. Watch his talking points and find out.
