Medal of Freedom, Anyone?

Medal of Freedom, Anyone?

via BlondeSense: Did anyone else see Ben Bradlee on Ted Koppel tonight? Koppel asked Bradlee what he thought of Pat Buchanan's comments that Deep Throat Mark Felt was not ...
Bradlee didn't even allow Koppel to finish.
Bradlee said, why should I see Buchanan or Gordon Liddy practically fresh from prison talk about Mark Felt and morality.... Felt couldn't go to Attorney General John Mitchell--who is worse? Mitchell or Gonzalez? Because Mitchell helped plan Watergate with Liddy in his office at the Justice Department. read on

BALANCE, CABLE NEWS STYLE

BALANCE, CABLE NEWS–STYLE

via Tapped ...Nothing quite captures the storied revolving-door problem in American political punditry like seeing old Watergate players themselves (or, in the case of Pat Buchanan, not a Watergate participant but certainly a loyal Richard Nixon soldier) playing disinterested pundit-analysts on one talking-head show after another discussing Mark Felt. At this point maybe it shouldn’t seem so bizarre to me to see Chris Matthews chatting with G. Gordon Liddy about this story as if they were David Brinkley and Chet Huntley chewing over the day’s headlines.

That these characters have carte blanche on the cable chat shows to serve as credible Felt naysayers is just one more illustration of the wonderful cloak of immunity enjoyed by all right-wingers in the clubby, insular D.C. punditry world. Lying, stealing, prison time -- literally nothing can discredit a conservative gabber enough to cancel their membership card to the commentariat. And today we have Peggy Noonan to thank for granting some establishment pundit legitimacy to Ben Stein’s thoughtful Deep Throat-as-genocidaire thesis. Can’t wait to hear Liddy’s thoughts on it tonight on Hardball.

He calls her a racist too. Keep it up guys.

LIDDY: Let’s hope that the key conferences aren’t when she’s menstruating or something or just before she’s going to menstruate. That would really be bad....

This is just disgusting. In a new Quinnipiac Poll, Americans favor the nomination of Sonia Sotomayor: 52-24.

A new Quinnipiac poll finds that a majority of Americans approve of President Obama's pick for the Supreme Court, Sonia Sotomayor.

With Obama's Supreme Court Justice pick still pending approval by the Senate, the national survey found that 54 percent support the pick and 24 percent disapprove, with 22 percent undecided. The poll surveyed 1, 438 registered voters nationwide.

Jon Perr has more on the revolting behavior of the far right.

Back in 1995, Newt Gingrich famously concluded menstruation rendered women unfit for combat roles in the military. Now just two days after Gingrich branded Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor "racist," convicted Watergate felon and right-wing radio host G. Gordon Liddy agreed that both of Newt's arguments disqualify Sotomayor. Period.

After echoing Tom Tancredo's slander that the National Council of La Raza to which Sotomayor belongs is a "Latino KKK," Liddy Thursday recycled Gingrich's theory of menstrual disqualification:

"Let's hope that the key conferences aren't when she's menstruating or something, or just before she's going to menstruate. That would really be bad. Lord knows what we would get then."

If that pathetic formula sounds familiar, it should. As the New York Times recounted 14 years ago, Newt suggested menstruation should keep women out of essential roles in the American military, if not off the bench:...read on

Liddy Dole Proposing Naming AIDS Bill After Jesse Helms

That's a head-to-keyboard sentence if I've ever heard one. Pam's House Blend:

Good god. Perhaps all that work on Liddy has caused something to snap. Out of all the people to try to honor in an Act dedicated to fighting AIDS, Elizabeth Dole spits in the face of LGBTs by proposing the now-dead Jesse Helms be added to the "Tom Lantos and Henry J. Hyde United States Global Leadership Against HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria Reauthorization Act of 2008." Here's the Congressional Record:

SA 5074. Mrs. DOLE submitted an amendment intended to be proposed by her to the bill S. 2731, to authorize appropriations for fiscal years 2009 through 2013 to provide assistance to foreign countries to combat HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, and for other purposes; which was ordered to lie on the table; as follows: On page 1, line 5, strike ''and Henry J. Hyde'' and insert '', Henry J. Hyde, and Jesse Helms''.

Why is this so unbelievably wrong on so many levels? Because of what Jesse Helms said about AIDS:

Joe Jervis of Joe.My.God says it all: Jesse Helms, the man who in 1987 described AIDS prevention literature as "so obscene, so revolting, I may throw up."

Jesse Helms, the man who in 1988 vigorously opposed the Kennedy-Hatch AIDS research bill, saying, "There is not one single case of AIDS in this country that cannot be traced in origin to sodomy."

Jesse Helms, the man who in 1995 said (in opposition to refunding the Ryan White Act) that the government should spend less on people with AIDS because they got sick due to their "deliberate, disgusting, revolting conduct."

I don't know about you, but I smell a Worst Person in The World award going to one Liddy Dole for this crushingly insensitive move.

MN DFL Headquarters Broken Into...Again

You know, this all has a vaguely familiar sound to it. Anybody seen G.Gordon Liddy recently? I'm just sayin'...

Minnesota Monitor:

For a second time this month, someone has broken into DFL Headquarters in St. Paul. Indications are that the intruder broke into the office of Andrew O'Leary, the DFL's executive director, stealing a computer that was not visible from outside of the building and going through materials in his desk.
Two weekends ago, an intruder smashed a window and stole a laptop from the office of Nick Kimball, the DFL's Interim Communications Director. The DFL has no official statement on this latest incident.

The article was updated to state that more than a laptop was stolen in the second robbery, without specifying what. Perhaps not so coincidentally, there are reports of similar thefts to Democratic offices in Ohio and New Hampshire. Funny how they're all Democratic offices, isn't it?

Block the Media

The wrong kind of media I should say.

Wonkette:

Just to let you know, the US Marines have blocked access to “Wonkette” along with numerous other sites such as...

Wonkette - blocked
O'Reilly -- OK
Air America -- blocked
Limbaugh -- OK
ABC News "The Note" -- OK
Al Franken Show -- blocked
G. Gordon Liddy Show -- OK

If anyone can test to see if they are blocking C&L that would be great.

Arianna vs Liddy: "Ethnic attack on Arianna"

A picture named Arianna-Liddy.jpg

In a bizarre exchange at the end of the segment last night, Liddy attacked Arianna Huffington becasue of her Greek heritage on the Paula Zahn Show. The spot was a discussion about whether the President should meet with Cindy Sheehan or not. Liddy who always manages to offend people didn't disappoint his followers.

Emailer Darien said: Near the end of the segment, Arianna said that Bush sounded flippant when he said "I need to get on with my life." Here's a paraphrased version of what followed.

Liddy: Oh, that may seem flippant in a country like Greece, but not the United States.

Huffington: Wow, we're doing ethnic varieties now? It's not just Greek Americans, it's the majority of all Americans which is why Bush's approval is at 42%.

Liddy: That was a gratuitous assertion, and any gratuitous assertion may be denied equally gratuitously.

What the heck does his last sentence even mean? That the poll numbers are unjustified? That's what every poll says G. I guess he feels that if he doesn't like something then he can lie to counter the facts "gratuitously." Certain wingnuts can always manage to interject racism into their arguments. It's sad, but that's the way it is. Zahn wasn't a bright bulb either and Liddy's "face blown off "remarks are...see for yourself.

Gordon Liddy calls Cindy Sheehan an anti-Semite

The reason I'm putting this up to accentuate the "talking points" that will be used against Cindy in the coming weeks. We've just seen how this convicted felon behaves in his latest appearance on Paula Zahn with Arianna Huffington. Sinking to the lower depths of humanity is nothing new for G.

icon Download | play -WMP

Apparently just the mention of the word "neocon" means anti-Semite in Liddy's world. ( It's really just the game) Clift, Colmes and even Hannity were left almost speechless by it. (Cindy has already denied making the other statements that Gordon is referring to here.)

Newshounds has more on the segment here. "In a November, 2004 interview, Liddy reportedly called Hitler his first political hero and claimed Hitler "made me feel a strength inside I had never known before... Hitler's sheer animal confidence and power of will [entranced me]. He sent an electric current through my body." Media Matters delves deeper into his psyche

To Liddy-admiring Hitler is a virtue.

Rush Limbaugh and Al Sharpton

via Outside the Beltway

Talk radio king Rush Limbaugh, upon hearing that Rev. Al Sharpton has been the latest figure on the Left given a radio show in hopes of capturing a Limbaugh-like audience, mused about the possibility of having Sharpton on his show and offering pointers. Sharpton has eagerly accepted....read on

I'm not kidding, this is true. James Joyner thinks it could be a lighthearted give-and-take between Sharpton and Limbaugh for a few weeks would be quite fun, akin to the occasional Gordon Liddy - Al Franklen interactions. Seeing Sharpton on O'Reilly, I'm not so sure he would be all that effective but who knows.
