2nd mistrial in The Miami Liberty Seven Case

Another embarrassment for the war of terror.

A federal judge has declared another mistrial against six men accused of plotting to spark an anti-government war by toppling Chicago's Sears Tower and bombing FBI offices.
U.S. District Judge Joan Lenard ordered a mistrial Wednesday when jurors reported they were hopelessly deadlocked after 13 days of deliberation in the case of the so-called "Liberty City Seven." The first trial ended in a mistrial in December because of a hung jury for the same six defendants and the acquittal of a seventh.

The six defendants could have faced up to 70 years in prison if convicted of four conspiracy charges.

Logan posted on the first trial here. Jeralyn's take on the original case too.

The NCAA FINAL FOUR

Love that Basketball

UCLA vs Memphis

North Carolina vs Kansas

It's the first time in tournament history that all #1 seeds made the final four. I'm a big UCLA fan, but Memphis is very good and it should be a great game. Josh Shipp has been in a slump and needs to hit a few 3's if they are going to win it all because they will have problems if Collison is the only Bruin hitting outside shots. Kevin Love is awesome. NC looks like the team to beat, but they should all be good games and any one of them can win the title.

Update: Logan and Mike F. are big KU fans so they'll be rooting hard for the Jayhawks.

For college hoop fans, what say you?

Lara Logan looks at "success" in Afghanistan

cbs_en_logan_afghan_graft_0.jpglogan_afghan_graft_07091.jpg

Thank the higher being of your choice for journalists like Lara Logan. While Katie Couric stays in the Green Zone and with heavily guarded escorts through a security-cleared market, Logan goes in and slogs through bio-hazardous waste and shows us exactly how much "success" our tax dollars have bought in Afghanistan.

Jesus' General: Fox's Black Problem

and congratulations to our very own Logan Murphy for his official induction into the Dirty F*&king Hippie Brigade.

mancow-oa.jpg If you haven't heard by now, XM shock-jocks Opie and Anthony are in full apology-mode over crude sexual comments (WARNING: disgusting language) guest “Homeless Charlie" made about Condoleeza Rice and Laura Bush. This kind of trash should be universally deplored, but when other idiot shockjocks like Mancow Muller -- who describes himself as a "conservative, Bible-thumping radical who curses" -- claim that Opie and Anthony are "liberal guys" and that's why they're "getting a free pass" from the media, I'd be remiss if I didn't call him out on it. Here's a contrast of what he said and what O&A themselves said about their political leanings in an interview on "Hannity & Colmes" last year.

Mancow: "These are liberal guys. Can you imagine - these are liberal guys, can you imagine if-if Rush or Hannity or you, Bill got on and talked about raping Hillary? You'd be out of the country by now, but these guys are getting a free pass because the media hates - hates -uh this First Lady and hates Condoleeza Rice."

In that H&C clip, Opie and Anthony had just gotten their show back after a two year hiatus from terrestrial radio where they were fired for running a contest in which they encouraged listeners to have sex in public places. One of those places was St. Patrick's Cathedral in NYC, and the uproar that ensued resulted in their canning.

The funniest part has to be when Hannity asks them when their next outrageous controversy will happen and when he will have to defend them. Well, here you go, Sean. Will you stay true to your word? Something tells me no.

Six Democrats Vote To Deny DC Right To Full Representation

Dem-DC-Vote(Guest blogged by Logan Murphy)

Via DownWithTyranny:

Were Abe Lincoln to suddenly be resurrected and decide to run for office as a Republican-- before someone could warn him that his old party had been completely taken over by a cabal of southern racists, self-styled aristocrats and religionist kooks-- he might win an election in the District of Columbia. Short of that, it's hard to imagine any Republican ever getting a significant number of votes from that high-information, predominantly nonwhite district. (Less than 8% of the voters are registered Republicans and Bush only managed to garner 9% of the vote in each of his bids for the presidency.) So when Democrats have tried to give the District of Columbia equal representation, Republicans have fought it tooth and nail.

Twenty-two Republicans broke ranks with the KKK Party and joined the Democrats in passing the bill. Disgracefully, 6 Democrats voted against it: Read more...

* Dan Boren (OK)
* Nancy Boyda (KS)
* Chris Carney (PA)
* Tim Holden (PA)
* Paul Kanjorski (PA)
* Gene Taylor (MS)

What is wrong with these people? How in the world could any Democrat vote against legislation that would allow the citizens of Washington D.C. to have full and fair representation in Congress? Please click on the links of each Representative, contact their office and ask them for an explanation. Remember, be polite.

Developing: Doolittle Gives Up Panel Seat

(Guest blogged by Logan Murphy)

doolittle1.jpg

We reported on the FBI raid on the home of California Congressman John Doolittle last Friday and now, according to the AP, he has now decided to give up his seat on the House Appropriations Committee. Will he go the way of Bob Ney? Let's hope so. For more on Doolittle's follies, check out Nate's latest post.

UPDATE: Howie has a different take on this story, evidently Doolittle was allowed to resign his seat.

Haggard Gets Run Out Of Town

(Guest blogged by Logan Murphy)

haggard-ted-3.jpg How much worse can it get for poor, old Ted? As if the embarrassment of getting outed for doing meth with a male hooker wasn't bad enough, now the church he built from the ground up is paying him to leave Colorado Springs altogether. Gotta love those Christian values.

Via Huffington Post:

The Rev. Ted Haggard moved Wednesday from his longtime home in Colorado Springs to Phoenix, where the disgraced minister will join the same church that helped fallen televangelist Jim Baker.
Haggard, 50, resigned as president of the National Association of Evangelicals last year, after a former male prostitute alleged a three-year cash-for-sex relationship. The man also said he saw Haggard use methamphetamine. Haggard confessed to undisclosed "sexual immorality" and said he bought meth but never used it.

As part of his severance package from New Life Church, a 14,000-member congregation he started in his basement, Haggard agreed to leave Colorado Springs, a city he helped make an evangelical center.

"When he moved out of town today, there was a kind of relief on the part of the church that life can get back to normal," said the Rev. H.B. London, one of three ministers overseeing what has been called Haggard's "restoration." "For the Haggards, it is the beginning of a huge new chapter. It's a brand new start for them, the beginning of a new beginning." Read more...

Crazy Fox Propaganda

(Guest blogged by Logan Murphy)

Former Fox analyst and CIA Agent Larry Johnson, who we've covered here and here has put together a great round up of the crazy things Fox has put on their network and website.

No Quarter

I've been searching, so far without success, for the person/blog that took the time to create the following masterpiece. If you had any lingering doubt about the propaganda and disinformation that spews forth regularly from the demon child fathered by Rupert Murdoch and Roger Ailes, just take a look. These are not isolated, out of context, screen shots. These are reflective of a mindset and standard of practice that is truly evil.

As a former Fox News analyst I have some first hand experience of dealing with the beast and have the satisfaction of knowing that Rupert Murdoch had me removed from Fox air for daring to suggest that invading Iraq would be a diversion in the war on terrorism.
