Sarah Palin went all Pam Geller on us the other night with Greta Van Susteren on Fox:

Palin: Ya know, it sounds cliched to say the president is disconnected from the American people on this issue, but how else do you describe it? He just doesn't get it -- that this is an insensitive move on the part of those Muslims who want to build that mosque in this location, that feels like a stab in the heart of, collectively, Americans who still have that lingering pain from 9/11.

Oh please. These drama queens on the right need to explain to us just who among the survivors of the 9/11 attacks -- let alone those right-wing bedwetters traumatized by repeated viewing of the attacks -- sees someone expressing their religion freely as an attack on them.

We know, they're out there (right, Pam?), but then someone needs to explain why we need to pay any attention to -- let alone make important decisions based on their input -- these fundamentally irrational hysteria-mongers.

Oops! Open Mic Captures Catty Carly

Conversations like this almost seem caricatured, like a comedy routine or a sketch about women getting their hair done on a segment of the Carol Burnett show. (In fact, I could totally imagine Carol Burnett doing a hysterical spoof of this). I know I'm a naive sheeple, but this is the kind of stuff I teach my kids NOT to do. Cheerleader snark over an open mic is just, well...ugly.

I Heart Molly Ivins

The great Molly Ivins is in the hospital . My wife Janet won't mind if I tell you that I love Molly. Have for years.

"I am not anti-gun," she once said. "I'm pro-knife." Right away she sounds like a gal after my own heart.

She went on to explain why, in the context of gun control: "Consider the merits of the knife. In the first place, you have to catch up with someone in order to stab him. A general substitution of knives for guns would promote physical fitness. We'd turn into a whole nation of great runners. Plus, knives don't ricochet. And people are seldom killed while cleaning their knives."

i've been a huge fan of Molly's for years. She's always been a strong voice for the good guys - especially at a time (the early years of this war) and a place (Texas, by God!) when there weren't very many strong voices being heard. With W. deciding yet again that he's "The Decider" it's good to remember what Molly had to say about that:

""We are the people who run this country. We are the deciders. And every single day, every single one of us needs to step outside and take some action to help stop this war."

She never sugar-coats her message. Here's another quote:

"It is possible to read the history of this country as one long struggle to extend the liberties established in our Constitution to everyone in America."

More Molly gems:

"Just when you thought there wasn't a dime's worth of difference between the two parties, the Republicans go and prove you're wrong."

"I have been attacked by Rush Limbaugh on the air, an experience somewhat akin to being gummed by a newt. It doesn't actually hurt, but it leaves you with slimy stuff on your ankle."

Molly's knife quote reminds me of that great old song, "That's The Way the Girls Are in Texas." In Ry Cooder's version he sings the last verse in heaven: "She was guilty, I was dead/and what do you think that old judge said?/'Well, that's just the way the girls are here in Texas - case dismissed!'"

This chorus is for Molly,. She's a true daughter of the Lone Star State, the San Antonio Rose in America's lefty bouquet. Give her a thought or a prayer, or whatever you care to give. She's one in a million.

They're now bloggers

Notice how many mainstream types are now bloggers after they...you know....said we're screechers? More and more will start their own blogs like Joe Klein. I can't wait to see George Will's stab at it...

Who Should Apologize?

whoshouldapologize_0001.jpg

The mainstream media never ceases to amaze. They have been attacking Kerry left and right for his comments, yet they never once attacked Bush for making jokes about the very reason we have lost over 2,800 soldiers. John reminded me of this yesterday with his post. After being reminded, I decided to take my first stab at throwing together a somewhat political ad:

Today the RNC released their own ad attacking Kerry and demanding an apology. Perhaps the DNC should release an ad demanding an apology from Bush for his joke about the WMDs two years ago.

Plame-ologists New Year's Special: Judy Miller on Nightline

Judy took another stab at rehabilitating her career last night as she joined Terry Moran on Nightline. Apparently-Judy equates what happened to her with the victims of the Asian Tsunami. Methinks she still hasn't learned very much.

When Terry said she "rubbed her colleagues" the wrong way-I was ready for her to pitch a fit because she took such offense to the word "entanglement" that was used by Bill Keller to describe her relationship with Scooter Libby. There's a lot here to discuss. What say you?

FireDogLake: "Oh bully for Judy Miller. What a bravura performance last night on Nightline. All that was missing was an atomizer of throat spray and a few strands of tightly clutched pearls...read on

A picture named ten.jpg
Since he won the election, I thought Bush could nominate whoever he wants.

Then there must be an up or down vote.

I heard that line from many right wingers who were waiting in gleeful anticipation for the kind of extreme nominee they salivated for. The Roy Moore-ten commandment-constitutional candidate. Enter Harriet Miers. Apparently that isn't really the case.

(Update): John King says that Bush is at war with his own party. Will he stab them in the back and nominate Alberto Gonzales?

We could only hope that Jon would take a stab at "God's Own Circus" and he did not disapoint.

Hundreds of "circus clowns" sat in rapt attention, glazed eyes and unflinching muscles as their leaders told them what America's biggest problem is. Wanna guess?

The best line by far was "Judge Osama Bin Laden." Stewart easily proved the silliness of this whole charade.

Wing Nut Quote of the Day

A picture named Crypt2.jpeg

Robert(The Crypt Keeper) Novak said this on the Capital Gang about Howard Dean and the DNC chair:

"I will say this. This is suicidal and lunatic by the democratic party. And that's an opinion shared by a lot of democrats that I talk to"

Outside of the Crypt Keeper being in jail for treason. My question is: Besides possibly Joe Lieberman, what democrats actually talk to him, and if so, where can we find them.

Update for Oliver and here

B.S. Alert

Beware of columns from "douchebag of liberty" Bob Novak quoting unnamed Democrats concerned about irrelevant research about Howard Dean. Expect more of this as Dean works it as chairman. Who cares?

UPDATE: More of the same nonsense here from David Brooks. Looks like the memo went out. Expect to see it on Fox this week, and Rush will take a stab at it. For those of you who haven't been paying attention the last few years, or for those of you pretending there isn't any method to all of this please read Kevin Drum's look at the Ward Churchill story and how its been pushed by the right. What happened to Clinton in the '90s is now how the daily news now works. More on this later.
