The GOP Continues To Promote Failure and Corruption

Via The Stakeholder:

Republican Corruption Reigns Supreme -- Another Investigated Member Promoted by Republican Conference

Representative Tom Feeney (R-FL) became the second Republican Member of Congress under investigation to be promoted by the Republican Conference in less than a week.

"Apparently, the way to advance in the Republican conference is by being investigated for corruption. Isn't there a single Republican member who isn't corrupt who would be better suited for these jobs?” asked Jennifer Crider, Communications Director at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “Clearly, Republicans haven’t learned their lesson about holding their Members accountable for their wrong doing." Read more...

One would think the Grand Old Party would have learned a lesson from the thrashing they took in the '06 elections, but these people don't give up easily. After six years of unfettered power, they either don't realize or don't care how the public perceives their unethical behavior. Remember, with the GOP, it 'taint how you play the game, it's all about if you win or lose...

UPDATE: (SilentPatriot): Don't forget "The Daily Show"'s explanation of the taint that plagues the Beltway.

Wolfowitz and his potty mouth just won't go!

wolfowitz-ap-photo.jpgAP photo: Paul Wolfowitz is in deep trouble with the World Bank, but like most of the Bushies---he refuses to step down. Instead, he does a "Cheney" on them all.

Sounding more like a cast member of the Sopranos than an international leader, in testimony by one key witness Mr Wolfowitz declares: "If they f*&k with me or Shaha, I have enough on them to f*&k them too."--- "Mr Wolfowitz saw himself as the outsider to whom the established rules and standards did not apply."

A Cheney in this instance is telling someone to F*&k themselves and not shooting them in the face. As always, Bush supports his corrupt pals:

White House Spokesman Tony Snow says President Bush continues to stand by Wolfowitz."The fact is that he made mistakes. They are not in our view, firing offenses," he said.
What is a firing offense to this administration? Please, tell us! C&Ler "Liberty lover," reminds me to ask the nine US Attorney's what a firing offense is. ABC is reporting that the WH is showing signs of cracking:

On the second issue, the senior official told ABC News "it is an open question" whether Wolfowitz can remain an effective president of the World Bank.

Bush Cronies Indicted

No, not Cheney and Libby. Not yet, anyway. But still, this is pretty good considering that Alberto Gonzalez went out of his way to try to derail this. We talked about Dusty and Brent's Excellent Adventures before.

DownWithTyranny :

A federal grand jury handed down indictments for Dusty Foggo and Brent Wilkes today in a major blow against the systemic corruption that has kept the GOP fat and sassy. Just before noon the A.P. reported that Foggo, Bush's eyes and ears (and grabby hands) inside the CIA-- he was a political operative and hack-- was charged with fraud, conspiracy and money laundering in conjunction with the ongoing and expanding "Duke" Cunningham case. Wilkes, who had received as much as $100 million in illicit Bush Regime contracts, many through the connivance of Foggo and Cunningham, was charged with conspiring to bribe Cunningham. A third crooked Republican, John Michael, nephew of convicted GOP bigwig Thomas Kontogiannis, was also charged. The Kontogiannis connection is particularly dangerous to the Bush Regime since Cunningham had brokered a presidential pardon for him (a pardon Kontogiannis claims he paid $400,000 for). Only Bush can grant a presidential pardon and no one has dared to ask him to return the $400,000.

White House 'Disappears' Visitor Records

white-house.jpeg

TPMmuckraker:

What do you do when there are public records showing the details of visits by a corrupt lobbyist and his associates? If you're the Bush White House, you do what you do best: make them disappear!

From the AP:

The White House and the Secret Service quietly signed an agreement last spring in the midst of the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal declaring that records identifying visitors to the White House complex are not subject to public disclosure....
The five-page document dated May 17 declares that all entry and exit data on White House visitors belongs to the White House as presidential records rather than to the Secret Service as agency records. Therefore, the agreement states, the material is not subject to public disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act.

The Faulty List of Glenn Reynolds

Glenn Reynolds lists his reasons why the GOP might lose the '06 election. I'm not sure what will happen in November, but I'm hopeful. While I agree with some of his choices, I find it very odd that he leaves off the single most important reason that the Republicans might lose in November: IRAQ. With the blood of so many Iraqis and American forces littering the battlefield, I find this astonishing.

I guess it's hard to admit when you've had a hand in cheer-leading such a colossal blunder. I would have thought he'd at least mention the handling of the war as an out for himself---or maybe include the bad liberal media, but not a whisper.

You can write your own list about the GOP's problems which might include Iraq, Katrina, corruption, Scooter Libby, Foley, torture, NSA warrantless wiretapping…etc

Kevin writes up a nice post about what went wrong for the GOP.
