Angelo Carusone

Ouch, that #DumpTrump campaign must be working! Donald Trump sent his enforcer, attorney Allen Garten, to debate Media Matters' VP Angelo Carusone's effort to hold Trump accountable for his bigotry and political blowhardiness.

Saturday, Carusone went on Rock Newman's radio show to discuss his petition and why he started it, and then had a little telephone discussion with Trump attorney Allen Garten about it. It's a bit of a long segment but worth listening to, particularly when Garten proves Carusone's point by accusing him of "bullying, mob-like tactics."

Garten's reference to "mob-like tactics" at about the 6:30 mark was, of course, intended to use Carusone's name to imply he was a Mafia bully, scary and mean, which isn't much different than Trump's nasty insinuations about where President Obama was born, right? It's the same thing, just aimed at a different target.

From there, Carusone zooms in on the real issue:

What I would say is that it's quite consistent with what Mr. Trump's brand has become. I'm not making a characterization of Trump's brand ten years ago or five years ago. That's really irrelevant and not part of the discussion here.

The discussion is what Donald Trump's brand has become and in some ways he needs to keep upping the ante to get his free media fix.

And that's why it has become consistently more odious and contemptible. My point is not that Donald Trump should be sanctioned or silenced by the government, which is what you threatened to do to me, is to actually tell the government to stop me and silence me and punish me.

My point was simply that a company that I and 690 other thousand people support and like should not be investing in and as the CEO said, further developing that brand because Trump's brand is not worth pouring more money into.

And if he's as successful as you pointed out before, then I don't see what the problem is. He could easily go someplace else unless of course there are concerns that his brand has become something so toxic that nobody's really interested in it, at least at a fashion level.

Angelo has nearly 700,000 signatures on his petition, and Garten did nothing in this interview to de-toxify or otherwise rehabilitate Trump.

Perhaps Macy's should just listen to their customers, hmmmm?

The Donald is having a hissy fit, ladies and gentlemen. It seems he did not appreciate the recent "DumpTrump" campaign mounted against Macy's insistence on carrying his line of men's clothing. Angelo Carusone, of StopBeck fame, posted the petition on SignOn.org to protest Trump's continued racism against President Obama, support for birthers, and overall smarminess.

Carusone's petition has nearly 660,000 signatures, which must make Macy's PR department cringe a bit at the prospect of keeping Trump's clothing line in their stores and losing customers.

The Donald is lashing out, threatening Carusone with a $25 million lawsuit.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Trump has gone after Angelo Carusone, organizer of the online campaign known as "Dump Trump," with a lawsuit for "not less than" $25 million to stop the protest of Trump's Macy's deal. Trump's lawyer called Carusone's efforts "malicious."

“Rather than simply engage in lawful protest, you have apparently made it your mission to interfere with and intentionally disrupt Mr. Trump’s long-standing and well-established business relationship with Macy’s as well as his contractual dealings with other third parties through mob-like bullying and coercion,” reads a cease-and-desist letter from attorney Alan Garten that was obtained by THR.

BWAHAHAHAHA. Donald Trump, you should know your adversaries before sending out meaningless cease and desist notices. You have just made Angelo that much more determined to see you either apologize, quit lying about the president, or lose the right to market your merchandise in a store the public at large can choose at any time to boycott for any reason. That's how the people speak, Mr. Trump. With their feet and their wallets.

Angelo Carusone isn't afraid of Donald Trump, just like he wasn't afraid of Glenn Beck or Fox News. He fired back a response:

Donald Trump’s attempt to silence me will not work. I've dealt with enough bullies and know better than to succumb to intimidation,” he said, via a press release. “By threatening me, Trump is only reinforcing the point that we've been trying to get Macy's to recognize: [T]hat Trump's brand is consequence-free bullying and chicanery; it shouldn't be rewarded."

Carusone went on to say, "I was also surprised to hear Trump's counsel claim that Macy's is supportive of Trump's legal action. Trump doesn't have credibility, so I don't put too much stock in the claim, but I really hope Macy's isn't encouraging these kinds of threats against its own customers.”

Indeed. Donald Trump, meet Angelo Carusone. I promise you now, you will not win this. Better to apologize and go away for a long vacation.

Glenn Beck: Worst Racist In The World

Forgive the cheap riff on Olbermann's Worst Person in the World designation, but if the epithet fits, no one wears it better than Glenn Beck.

All that apologizing for racist comments he did last year? Yeah, not so much. Now listen to the clip at the top and try to count how many dog whistles he jammed into 64 seconds.

With regard to President Obama:

BECK: When you see a typical person like the president of BP, he [Obama] has a reaction that has been bred into him.

Now that actually kind of works. It does, if you understand who his parents were, and who his grandparents were. Because they're not really the typical white people.

His mother wasn't. His mother was a revolutionary.

His father wasn't. A revolutionary.

His grandparents, they went to the communist Little Red Church just outside Seattle. They had communist friends.

So it's almost like Marxism has been bred into him.

Yep, piling scum on scum: Beck is once again viciously and falsely smearing Obama's parents. Doesn't he claim to have a rule that "you leave the families alone"?

I really hate writing about Glenn Beck because I'd like to make him a footnote on the back end of history. He's the equivalent of a two-bit carnival barker with a shape-shifting magical box, where he can put facts in and pull them out as bull.

But after reading Over the Cliff and previewing Bill Press' new book, the emerging trend is too scary to ignore.

With each passing day the rhetoric gets more violent, more ridiculous, loaded with even more hyperbole and scary images, with the sole intention of stoking fear, anger, and loathing into those with ears to hear.

If they win the propaganda war, it will be because we didn't call it out when we saw it and call it what it is: bare, naked racism blended with a scary witches' brew of long-standing key terms, fears, and biases.

This is why law student Angelo Carusone listens to four hours of Glenn Beck every day and then pushes advertisers to drop their ads from his show. It's his mission: to make it more and more difficult for Beck to have a platform to spew this nonsense.

He's successful, too. He's gotten hundreds of advertisers to drop their sponsorship. In the UK, Beck's show has NO advertisers. None. While this might not cause Fox to drop his show entirely, it does expose the Murdoch agenda quite clearly. After all, any businessman without an agenda would have dropped him like a hot potato when the revenue to support the show dried up.

But no. Beck is such a lowlife scumbag that he just ramps up the nasty a few more notches and carries on, while all the time claiming to be a patriot.

What he is is a whore. Plain and simple.
