Open Letter to Cathy Engelbrecht, Texas Queen of True the Vote

Dear Ms. Engelbrecht,
As head honcho of the King Street Patriots and True the Vote, along with being a neighbor of mine, I tragically and mistakenly assumed that you thought voter fraud was serious bidness.

I was very mistaken. True the Vote is just a money raising scheme for you. I apologize for any damage that my false assumption may have caused you on your quest to rock stardom in GOP circles and your own slot on Fox News.

Early last October we gave you rock solid Supreme Court proof that your own personal candidate for County Commissioner in Fort Bend County, Bruce Flemming, voted in two different states – Texas and Pennsylvania – in the same damn elections.

In 2006, 2008, and 2010, Bruce voted in person in Fort Bend County and by mail in Pennsylvania in the same general elections. According to his financial disclosure forms, Bruce Fleming also owns a house in Pennsylvania. (He homesteaded a house in Texas and a house in Pennsylvania, but that illegality is a whole ‘nother story.) Bruce felt that owning houses in both states gave him the right to vote in the same elections in both states.

That’s a third degree felony in Texas.

We gave you copies of the papers and everything. We also gave you proof that his wife did it, too, in 2010.

Last October, when it was brought to your attention that your Republican County Commissioner candidate was not only caught red-handed in triple voter fraud but was bragging about it, you said that we should back down talking about it until he was convicted.

That’s a load of dog dump.

You know as well as I do that he’s not even going to be charged. Hell, he was Republican Precinct Chair of the Year in 2011, the first time that award had been given, and the GOP county chair who made up that award for Bruce is now a State Representative. The local District Attorney is a Republican, and a pussy-footed one at that, and so is the Texas Attorney General. Bruce Fleming knows too much about who else knew what he was doing.

If this was a Democrat, you’d be on the courthouse steps at least once a week throwing a walleyed, snot-nosed hissy fit about the horror, oh the horror, of Democrats stealing elections. I just checked your website, and there has not been one single word mentioned about it since October of 2012.

Do you know what has happened to Bruce Fleming since his bragging rights over voting twice were called to a halt? Nothing. Diddle squat. Nada. Just a tap hole without a beer keg around it.

Do you know when the statute of limitations runs on this? In November of this year. But, you knew that, didn’t you?

Cat got your tongue, Ms. Engelbrecht?

Houston based "True the Vote", a fake "anti-voter fraud" group run by Catherine Engelbrecht, the head of a Texas-based Tea Party Organization that has publicly declared its opposition to President Obama, and has taken it upon themselves to "protect" the country from the nonexistent scourge of "voter fraud", was caught sending letters to minority voters in Ohio challenging their right to vote.

ABC News' Dan Harris investigated recent claims of "voter harassment" among poor blacks in Ohio by the Tea Party-backed group, speaking to Teressa Sharp, a low-income African-American grandmother that says she has voted in every election since she was 18, yet received a letter in the mail from TTV saying her "right to vote has been challenged by a qualified electorate" (FYI: an "electorate" is a population, not a person). The justification for this challenge? The report never says.

When Harris tells Engelbrecht that cases of "Voter Fraud" are more rare than prosecutions of "migratory bird violations" and "virtually nonexistent", Engelbrecht responds that that means "there's room for improvement."

Actual cases of "in-person voter fraud" in Ohio is 0.00004% [ibid]. That means that for every four people that these groups might actually stop from voting illegally, TEN MILLION "legal" voters are potentially disenfranchised. The very idea that stopping ONE person from fraudulently voting... which would have NO discernible effect on the outcome of an election, justifies potentially disenfranchising 2,500,000 legitimate voters... which WOULD unquestionably have a catastrophic impact on our elections... is an absolute farce, and should be prosecuted proportionately.

Racist far-right partisan Republicans think they have found a cloak of respectability in challenging the rights of the poor and minorities, who typically vote Democratic, on the grounds of "protecting our elections from voter fraud". What justification is there to believe the poor and minorities are any more likely to commit "voter fraud" than rich white suburbanites that typically vote Republican? None. Yet for some odd coinky-dink, those just always seems to be groups they focus on.

True The Vote Prez Can't Spot Fraud In Her Own Candidate

Juanita Jean is one of my favorite Texas bloggers, and she's got a great one this time. Remember when I wrote about the Tea Party "True The Vote" thugs the other day? It turns out that a local candidate backed by Cathy Engelbrecht, president of True The Vote, is registered and voting in two states. (Which is a felony in Texas.) So Engelbrecht is running around the country, screaming about Democratic voter fraud, and ... well, isn't it ironic? And predictable?

Juanita Jean explains:

Today you get to know why I’ve been chatting about Cathy Engelbrecht and her True the Vote bullies. There’s been a story a’brewin’.

Cathy Engelbretch did not sniff out voter fraud when it was right under her nose smelling like a goat with a three day old catfish on its back. And here’s how I know that.

Like Cathy Engelbrecht, I live in County Commissioner Precinct 1 in Fort Bend County.Bruce Fleming: Loves to VoteBruce Fleming is the Republican nominee for County Commissioner, Precinct 1, in Fort Bend County. He won in a runoff election.

Bruce was also named Precinct Chairman of the Year last year by then GOP County Chairman and thug-about-town Rick Miller. Miller then recruited Fleming to run for county commissioner which seemed like a good idea at the time since Fleming is unemployed. Here’s Bruce’s website. So Ole Bruce is a dandy Republican who loves God and hates government
.

Recognizing that rights come from God, not government, and that it should be a servant, not a master, are foundational principles under attack today.

"Let me tell you about Bruce’s foundational principles. In 2006, 2008, and 2010, Bruce voted in person in Fort Bend County and by mail in Pennsylvania in the same general elections."

According to his financial disclosure forms, Bruce Fleming also owns a house in Pennsylvania. (He homesteaded a house in Texas and a house in [Lower Makefield], Pennsylvania, but that illegality is a whole ‘nother story.) Bruce felt that owning houses in both states gave him the right to vote in the same elections in both states. That’s a third degree felony in Texas.

Yes, it’s the same Bruce Fleming with the same address and the same birth date. And, even though Bruce registered in Fort Bend in 2006, he’s still an eligible voter in Pennsylvania. We’re still checking to see if he’s asked for a ballot by mail in Pennsylvania this election. It appears that Bruce’s wife did the same thing in 2010.

So here sits True The Vote and the King Street Patriots out chasing imaginary voter fraud when real voter fraud is happening right here in their own front yard.

Ain’t that just the damnest thing you’ve ever seen? There’s more to this story and all kinds of ugly Republican twists and splatters but I thought you’d want to chew on the glorious irony of Cathy Engelbrecht’s own Republican county commissioner candidate being a felony chronic serial voter frauder.

But here's the best part:

"To be honest with you, the tip was Mr. Fleming had bragged to Rick Miller that he had voted twice against Barack Obama," said Don Bankston of the Texas State Democratic Party.

What do you suppose the odds are he didn't brag to Cathy Engelbrecht?

Congress to Investigate True The Vote For Vote Suppression

Yes, the same kind of people who got themselves worked into an angry froth about two members of the New Black Panther Party standing in front of a polling place in Philadelphia have decided to show the Dems how it's really done -- with Tea Party thuggery!

Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), ranking member of the House Oversight Committee, has launched an investigation into the Texas-based polling place-watching organization True the Vote, which he says is involved in what is “clearly a case of voter suppression.”

Speaking Monday evening on MSNBC’s “PoliticsNation,” with host Rev. Al Sharpton, Cummings said that the investigation will be looking into what sort of information True the Vote was using to challenge the legality of certain voters, and whether or not those challenges fell on specific geographical areas.

“It would be interesting to see whether those are in suburban areas, are they in urban areas? We would suggest that most of them are in urban areas,” Cummings said. “They have made it their business to claim that they are trying to keep the voting process legitimate when in fact they’re suppressing the vote.” True the Vote’s president, Catherine Engelbrecht, has already agreed to provide documentation and testimony, Cummings said.

True the Vote has responded already to Rep. Cummings’ on its website with a statement and open letter, calling his allegations “factually bankrupt.” Engelbrecht offered to meet with Cummings in his Washington, D.C. office in order to “brief [Rep. Cummings and his] staff about our program and help dispel any misconceptions you may have.”
