ABC's Terry Moran should be ashamed

Go leave a comment on ABC's blog for Terry after this disturbing article. ABC should be held accountable---again. Glenn Greenwald explains...

Terry Moran of ABC News predictably chimes in on this topic -- echoing the sentiments of his brother, right-wing blogger Rick Moran of "Right Wing NutHouse" ("My brother Terry (who has a new blog that you should bookmark immediately) gets it exactly right") and Michelle Malkin (amazing how often the Liberal MSM does that) -- with an article entitled Does John Edwards Condone Hate Speech? Moran bascially recites all of the lines coming from his brother and the other right-wing bloggers on this subject.

That's an excellent display of recitation skills, Terry. Why not engage in the actual function of a journalist -- research and investigation -- and find your own original material by looking at the writings of some other bloggers, such as Patrick Ruffini, Jon Henke, and Hynes? Moran asks: "If a Republican candidate teamed up with a right-wing blogger who spewed this kind of venom, how would people react?" That is a good question. Moran should go find out.

I know they've had their credibility shot so they're looking for someone to attack, but right wing bloggers have opened up a Pandora's box they will not like. Developing...

CNN on the Edwards/Blogger Story

cnn-edwardsbloggers.jpg I wasn't happy with this report. Why did CNN choose to interview Danny Glover for the piece anyway? Why did CNN give Donohue a nice platform with nobody from the left to add balance to the segment? They must know how controversial he is. Couldn't they have included the real time line of the events which led up to this right wing attack job?

Tell me what else you didn't like about the piece.....CNN is reporting that the Edwards camp has no comment on this story yet.

Debra Howell Stands Up For Impartial Reporting

I know, I was amazed too.

AmericaBlog: (h/t MrEMan)

You'll recall that we wrote last week about how embattled former Associated Press reporter, who is now working at the Washington Post, just wrote his first front page story at the Post about Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards.

It was a story about how Edwards sold his house to someone John Solomon and his editors at the Post don't like. That's it. The story implied in its first two paragraphs that Edwards' spokeswoman lied to reporters about the sale - but in the 9th paragraph of the story you find out that Edwards' spokeswoman actually told the truth. As we wrote before, this is a classic Solomon trick - imply something nefarious in the first few paragraphs, then disprove it buried way down in the story where the reader likely won't even see it. And sometimes, he's even less sneaky - he simply reports an outright lie, something the source never even said.

Anyway, in today's Washington Post, the ombudsman weighs in on John Solomon's first big story at the Post, and she isn't pleased.

"Sacrifice"

Yep, that's what Bush is going to tell us when he adopts the McCain doctrine and sends more troops into Iraq. It seems to me like the troops are the only ones being asked to make the ultimate sacrifice. John Edwards talks about sacrifice in a different context.

Matthews: President Bush in his last press conference last week said that his idea was for America to go shopping. He literally said that. What do you make of that? As a way to engage the public in our national cause.

Edwards: What planet is he living on? I have absolutely no idea. This is the man who is in charge of this war in Iraq.---And we need the next president of the United States needs to tap into it and say, not in an ideological way, not in a partisan way, but say: These are the great things that we can do as Americans, but you can‘t sit home and complain that somebody else is not doing their job. If you actually want America to be great, you‘re going to have to step out and take some responsibility yourself and do something.

...full transcript here.

Digby:

If I didn't know better, I'd have to think that Bush is trying to tank John McCain's campaign before it even gets started. First he adopts the wildly unpopular McCain Doctrine of escalation and now he's going to use McCain's favorite empty stump line to try to sell it.---Its central theme will be sacrifice....read on

Sunday Talking Heads

white-dove.jpg

The Sunday Talking Head line-up is ready for the reading. With two Democratic Presidential hopefuls in this morning's line-up -- Edwards and Vilsack -- it's officially campaign season again. Boo-yah.

Two journalists to watch in the line-up this morning -- Tom DeFrank of the NYDaily News, who always seems to have the inside scoop on all things Cheney and Bush, and Eugene Robinson of the WaPo, who always seems to nail the common sense point of view and ought to be able to cut through Kate O'Beirne's fact free blather with a smile on his face. Could be fun.

Wishing you, and all of us really, some peace and joy in the New Year, and hoping for a whole lot less of this sort of craptastic malarky. (H/T to Digby who, as always, nails it.)

Chris Matthews: Ball--buster

hb-edwards-e.jpg Chris Matthews pulls one of his unfiltered moments while talking to John and Elizabeth Edwards on Hardball---the College tour.

Matthews:: What is it, does she do this, does she bust (bite) your balls like this when you're...?

Elizabeth Edwards is a good sport...

Elizabeth: My children are watching this...(laughing)

Matthews: ...What happened to the Stepford wives. The good old days...Oh, how PC. Why don't you hiss. Oh, thank you. Finally the frigging hiss...

Tim Russert on the Imus show called it for Bush

Tim Russert on the Imus show called it for Bush.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush (news - web sites)'s campaign declared victory on Wednesday over Democratic Sen. John Kerry (news - web sites) and claimed a second term in the White House, but Kerry refused to concede until all ballots were counted in the undecided state of Ohio.

Ohio's 20 electoral votes were essential to give either candidate the Electoral College (news - web sites) majority of 270 needed to win the White House, after a divisive campaign that focused on the war in Iraq (news - web sites), the battle against global terrorism, and the economy.

Kerry's running mate, Sen. John Edwards (news - web sites) of North Carolina, told supporters in Boston there would be no concession until all votes had been counted in Ohio.

"It's been a long night, but we've waited four years for this victory, we can wait one more night," Edwards said, adding: "We will fight for every vote."

Tim Russert sucks up to Karl Rove

Could Tim Russert suck up to Karl Rove anymore than he did on MTP Sunday? He sure hit him with an actual population map of the USA. That was really nasty! Where's that bulldog interviewer we so fondly remember; you know the one that attacked Edwards just weeks before the election? We don't have a problem with his style, just keep it even. Where was that scathing attack on Condi Rice? What about Rudi? Giuliani blames the troops for the missing explosives and Russert allows him to skate!
