Rickie Lee Jones has been a good friend of our community, a natural fit in countless ways. Right now she's in the middle of two intimate musical residencies, one in L.A. and one in San Francisco. Monday she starts in L.A. for a total of four nights at the Echoplex in Silverlake-- 1822 Sunset Blvd-- February 4, 11, 18 and 25. She's already done 3 shows at the Cafe du Nord in San Francisco and her last night there is Tuesday (February 5)-- a night California Democrats will make history. She's been an outstanding and unique artist since she started putting out records in the late 70s. "Ugly Man" is a bit more recent, a highly charged and evocative song from her 2003 release, The Evening of My Best Day. If you want to guess who she wrote it about-- she never mentions his name-- let me give you a hint: it's wasn't Chuck E. and it isn't someone generally associated with "love."
