Being Michigan born and raised I take my friendship with my car very seriously. The problem is that they can develop into a relationship of codependency. The 20 year old car I've had for around 10 years started giving me lots of problems over the last 8 months. Things started falling apart faster than I could fix them. Being that I still live in Michigan, and live in an area that is fairly notorious for not being the most generous when it comes to wages, it was becoming a huge strain on my wallet and bank account. When the most recent problems started happening to it last week I started realizing that I had invested twice what the thing was worth into it in less than a year. I had to face up that my loyalty could only last so long and it was time to send her off to the great metal ranch in the sky.
My dad offered me a good used car at a great price to replace her. Being that it was a "dad car" he had to make sure I knew that it wasn't some "cool machine" but had a lot of life in it and would last me years. I'm not some young dude anymore. I like to think I am still somewhat "cool" but also know that a "cool machine" wouldn't make me any cooler. (but will make me even more broke once insurance and gasoline is factored in.) That and a lot of people who do drive "cool machines" are not really what they want people to think they are.
