Sorry, I don't buy this argument.
It's like saying that because some drivers will always speed, society should just do away with speed limits everywhere.
If it were to be announced that citizens had to register their weapons with the police and be subject to a psychological background check as to their fitness to,own a weapon, law abiding citizens would comply.
The next step would not be a door to door police dragnet searching for unlicensed firearms.
But, just as it is here in Canada where I live, if the police were to discover unregistered or improperly secured weapons during a legally warranted search for any reason, then the owner could and should be prosecuted.
Such a policy is simple sanity, but in today's insane ammosexual culture, it is regarded as heresy to say these things out loud.
